@stom@lemmy.world avatar

Unpopular opinion but Wheatley from Portal 2 can go breathe vacuum.

Not a fan of Steven Merchant and felt his voice acting was of placeholder-quality. Made the game considerably less enjoyable to play through with him desperately trying to be funny.

I should look for a mod, because even Gilbert Gottfried would be less irritating.

SHOW_ME_YOUR_ASSHOLE,

That game is a masterpiece and Wheatley was voiced perfectly! Fight me!

cynar,

His annoyingness is part of the core plot. The progression works excellently.

  • “This guy’s an idiot”
  • “This guy’s an idiot, but funny.”
  • “Ok, too much of idiot guy, I want glados back.”
  • “Oh, hi glados”
  • Idiot guy gets really annoying.
  • Hey glados, can we go kill idiot guy together?"
  • Space Space SPACE, SPAAAAAAACCCCCCEEEEEE!!!

Wyll and Gale from BG3 were both suuuuuuper boring companions.

TIMMAY,

Yeah for real, its almost impressive to give them the storylines they had but make them just so boring compared to big K

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

I thought they were both delightful, but neither's storyline had the emotional payoff that something like Shadowheart's or Karlach's had.

I had a bit of an inverse experience between the two. My gut reaction to Wyll was good, but his story made me dislike him, but Gale I disliked off the bat but came to appreciate after a bit of dialogue.

Wyll’s act 3 content feels so stupid, where he suddenly starts ego tripping and becomes less and less likeable. “The blade of avernus” my ass

Surprising nobody, this game looks dead on arrival. Better luck next time, square enix.

Rai,

We must return to EXTREME PAINTBRAWL! One of the funniest reviews I had read in PCGamer magazine.

The first that comes to mind is the entire crew in Pikmin 4, and particularly Collin. Those little chatterboxes never ever shut up or cease giving you advice on things you already know how to do. I hate them so much.

TIMMAY,

I wont downvote you but you cant stop me from doing this: ☹️

Haha, sorry. They just drove me up the wall. Somebody else in this thread besmirched a character I like though so I know the feels.

Coming back to revise my answer. It’s definitely FF7 Chadley.

thorbot, (edited ) do gaming w Who, in your opinion, is the most annoying character in any game?

Literally every single character in the newest Pokemon game. The entire narrative is so god damned insufferable. I‘ll never buy another Pokemon game again unless it’s like Arceus and has less narrative.

ouRKaoS,

Pokemon didn’t grow up with it’s player base. They try and keep the storylines Kid friendly, when I’d guess 70%+ of players are adults.

Black & White probably had the most “Adult” narratives of the series, delving into the slavery/forced labor a bit. I’d love to see the games delve into some more adult themes, but I doubt it will happen.

Nikls94,

That sandwich dude is pretty good written tbh

thorbot,

If you’re talking about the sandwich vendors, they were the worst. Everything about interacting with ingredient or sandwich vendors is soulless.

Nikls94,

No no, I mean this one story line with that guy that makes sandwiches to cure his mastiff!

You’re right, those vendors were as soulless as my red-haired ex.

I love Derail Valley, though I absolutely suck at it. I don’t want to look up spoilers online, but I have been playing for 3 months and I still haven’t found the slug, and I am still mostly hauling stuff around with 3 DE-2s. I’m excited for when they add in NPC trains, though I have no clue how that will work with the current map.

This is basically what The Witness is all about, every fifteen minutes

For a while I just couldn’t play souls-likes. The enemy attacks were blatantly undodgeable. Like, even if you move at the maximum possible speed, in any direction, at the very start of an animation, you can’t get out of the way. Then I realized you’re not really supposed to get out of the way, you’re supposed to abuse the immunity frames from the roll to “dodge” straight through the attacks. Basically the opposite of what I had been doing.

Looks like Splatoon at home doesn’t have the same appeal as Pokemon at home (note: just using “at home” to note similarity, not to downplay quality).

Claire Redfield in darkside chronicles. I saw that ASS and that was the last I saw of it. Before Stellar Blade, there was Claire Redfield. Claire Redfield is awesome.

Definitely shield dropping in smash bros melee. Seemed like an essentially impossibly difficult skill, and nearly made me stop playing because I don’t have the time to invest into that kind of tech skills just to be competitive. But then I had my eureka moment when I learned that you can get your shield up and not roll if you just have the stick to the right or left when you press shield in the first place. After that it’s just dropping the stick down one notch and you’re dropping like no tomorrow. Bit of practice to get the timing down and now I’ve unlocked an entirely new dimension of my play.

Yet another reason I cannot stop playing melee. Every time I think I’ve figured that game out, it reveals an entirely new level of depth that was invisible before I had the tech to see it.

Dodge Offset in Bayonetta. I played through 1&2 a couple times over before even becoming aware of it.

It’s a totally different game once you wrap your head around it. My opinion of Bayo 1 went way up as a result - Dodge Offset is the glue that holds the combat together and is the key differentiating feature from all other character action games.

When I first tried guitar hero, for some reason I thought I should strum using the side of my thumb. I’d have this swollen bump (there’s a word for this but it escapes me) where I made contact and thought I just needed to get used to it to get past that. It made sense to me because I knew there was toughening of the fingers involved in playing a real guitar (never mind that it had nothing to do with strumming).

I was doing double strumming and practicing for expert level that way.

When I realized I could instead use my thumb pad to strum down and finger pad to strum up, it was game changer. You treat it like it’s a pick. Duh.

Any Dark Souls with a heavy weapon. Just smashing those puny hollows into pancakes.
