Stovetop, do games w Day 423 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing

Love this game. I will say that not all of its systems are perfect, but I do believe that it is worth pushing through to get to Rebirth, which is simply bigger and better in every way (including photo mode).

Now I’m more excited to get to Rebirth. i wasn’t aware it’s Systems are all too changed. I kind of assumed it was just more of remake and not much else

Stovetop,

It’s very big on the open-world model, and the party being a lot more dynamic opens up a lot of choice for how you want to build your standard batch of characters.

There are still times during the story where members of the party will split up, essentially to spotlight each character at least once, but most of the game gives you a lot more party composition choice than Remake.

They simplified some of the character progression, but expanded the Synergy feature from the Remake DLC that allows characters to do special attacks with other characters, which is cool and helps mix things up. Certain combos of characters can be good just for their synergy abilities. And the new party members in this game are just fun.

Everyone also has more capability to deal with flying enemies or enemies at range, just built into their standard moveset. I found flying enemies to be really annoying in Remake, but fine in Rebirth. And everyone has the option to obtain a set of elemental damaging abilities that help with staggering foes to avoid having to use as much MP on spells.

On the topic of pressuring/staggering, they also improve that a lot, where the conditions to pressure an enemy are more varied and easier to pull off, which you can learn by using Assess on an enemy just once.

Everything feels familiar to Remake, so I’m sure if someone simply doesn’t like anything at all about Remake, they may still not like Rebirth. But for anyone who likes remake except for a few peeves with combat or how limiting the game feels in terms of exploration/story railroading, Remake vastly improves all of that.

If there’s only one potential gripe specific to Remake that I may not like as much, it’s just that a lot of the open world mechanics feel a bit Ubisoft-y, but it didn’t really feel as tedious to me to do them all. It’s worth doing enough of them to upgrade the BGM for each zone, at least!

These are great!

I do want to reinstall and replay rdr2 but I’m waiting for the rumoured next gen update before I do.

@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

I do hope it eventuates, but…I’ve seen enough ‘credible’ leaks that its right around the corner to last me a lifetime

I hope it arrives for you, because RDR2 is a beautiful game, in its own slow way. Well worth replaying!

I’d love to replay, but I spent so many hours in it. Much like Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk, I think I can’t actually play any more of it because I played so much already

Katana314, do games w Day 422 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing

I never played Remake, but when a YouTuber recently did a comparison video between some of their major scenes, I ended up respecting the original so much more.

A great one was when the plate falls. The original made directorial choices that emphasized the brutality of it all so much better, especially by choosing to cut the music. It just seems like Remake’s director was adding so many things simply because he could, making short and direct scenes so much worse by excess creation.

Of note, another JRPG from that general time period, Trails in the Sky, is being remade soon, and that one seemed quite a bit more faithful to me. Still taking liberties to change dialog, but only where it makes sense - they also greatly retooled the battle system with full respect for classic turntaking style.

Katana314, do games w Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?

Playing an indie mystery game called Dragon Detective. I’m on case 4 so far, it’s definitely held my attention with the story. It manages to do a good job with its worldbuilding.

Was it hard?

GrantUsEyes,

That depends on the player; It’s as hard as you want it to be, (you can over level if you’re struggling, or do a challenge run staying under level, no upgrades, etc.) definitely not hard compared to today’s soulslike standards. If you are new to the genre it may take some adjustment, but the game is worth it.

The Plucky Squire and Return to Monkey Island seem to be the only interesting titles.

Have you played the original game?

I have not unfortunately. I tried to give it a try on the Xbox Re release but just couldn’t get into it. I want to go back and give it a try though some day

Plucky Squire and Grapple Dog are on my wishlist 😅

Other than that, not the most appealing bundle for me.

Also, plugging !humblebundle.

Trailer dumping: useful content, or ad spam?

PerfectDark,
@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

To me if it’s a new release of a game…of course it should be shared! The first person to post it (preferably with their own views on the game coming written underneath) keeps the community up-to-date with what games look like. Trailer ‘dumping’ really only happens when there’s a big event, and the point of that event is seeing trailers for games. It makes sense to have them shared here.

But posts sharing the same trailer after that first? Removed.

I don’t think of it as ad spam, because it’s not like Rockstar is making a Lemmy account to make sure we see the GTA VI trailer. If we denied trailers being posted, there’d be some very angry Silksong people when that one got the trailer!

frongt,

Should they be consolidated into one post then? It’s just bothersome to see a bunch of ads (because let’s be real, trailers are ad material) dumped in quick succession. The only ones I’d watch are for games I’m interested in playing, but for the ones I really want to play, I’d rather go in mostly blind so I won’t watch those either.

It’s not just one trailer, either, it’s announcement, release date, “now on steam”, cinematic trailer, gameplay trailer, release announcement trailer.

Dremor, (edited )
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

That’s indeed what we asked to do next time for big events. But when no such big event occurs, it’s OK.

In my opinion, the following trailers are acceptable :

  • Announcement of a new game -> so we can start talking about that game
  • Announcement of end of early access or of game release (like Hades 2 recently) -> So we can talk about the game at its release state
  • Major update of updates of a game (as soon as it isn’t too often) -> So we can discuss how that specific update make that game evolve, for better or worse. I’d honestly still prefer those one to be kept to their dedicated communities, but one from time to time won’t kill anyone.

Globally, that’s also a way to advertise dedicated communities for that specific game, so I think that’s alright.

We’ll discuss all of this with the incoming community rules update.
