Elderborn is an indie first person “metal AF slasher.” I guess it could be considered souls like. but you can be a lady barbarian thwacking skeletons with a hammer. Well theres a bunch of weapons but hammer rules. Id say its a tough game but not all that hard.

Theres a kick mechanic where you can boot an enemy over a ledge. Landing one of those is just about the most satisfying thing for me.

MummysLittleBloodSlut,

Oooh, thanks!

hamsterkill, do gaming w Self insert power fantasy recommendations?

How important is being an RPG in this case? (as I note only a couple of your examples are in that genre)

The below suggestions are not RPGs, but I think fit your request.

It’s a survival game, but Conan Exiles ticks a lot of those boxes once you get a bit geared (which doesn’t take super long), and it can be played single player. Just have to be okay with some janky experiences.

I will also note that you are a girl in Hades 2.

Sifu is another one you might enjoy, though bosses certainly are a challenge.

Bayonetta is probably the most pure example of a horde-fighting action game with a sexy female witch protagonist. Lollipop Chainsaw is there too, for more of an airhead protagonist. Darksiders 3 could fit the bill as well.

MummysLittleBloodSlut,

Sifu has girl? I got that for free on Epic. I was looking at it yesterday but decided not to check if the guy on the box is the only player character. Thanks!

It's not an RPG but how about Lollipop Chainsaw?

It has hordes of enemies you can slaughter (which provides a certain kind of relaxation, to be fair) as a pretty girl who possibly looks like you maybe, and you can see boobs.

I never actually played the game (although I'm interested in playing it) but it was the first thing that popped into my mind.

While it’s not indie: Cyberpunk 2077?

You can make your character as pretty as you please (though, no “sex appeal” -slider like in Saint’s Row :D). Also, no 3rd person camera, so you’d only see your character in inventory screen. Otherwise there’s bit of boobies to be seen - and massive amounts if you so choose with modding.

Difficultywise it’ll cater to very casual approach, but the game does the “bethesda-thing” where you will end up as destroyer of worlds regardless of difficulty.

edit: btw, you might want to specify your platform? No modding for cyberpunk on consoles as of yet, I just assumed PC here.

Don_alForno,

MummysLittleBloodSlut,

Sorry, CDPR is too close to the companies they’re trying to satirise in the game. Satire isn’t funny when it’s hypocritical. After that cosplay contest, I’m never giving Projekt Red a cent.

Duke_Nukem_1990,

What…what cosplay contest?

MummysLittleBloodSlut,

One of the finalists was a cis woman who pretended to be trans. She put a glowstick in her pants to cosplay the Chromanticore model. CDPR decided to reward that with a feature on their Twitter.

comically_cluttered, (edited )

I’d rather not wade into the larger “CDPR is transphobic” debate, but here’s an article from Polygon from a few years ago detailing some stuff, including the cosplay contest controversy:

polygon.com/…/cyberpunk-2077-marketing-cd-projekt…

To save you from reading the whole thing, basically, during the run-up to Cyberpunk’s release, CDPR got very… edgelord with their marketing.

One of the more controversial pieces of marketing was an in-universe poster advertising a drink called “Mix It Up”, which depicts what appears to be a trans woman in a highly sexualized manner.

They then organized a cosplay contest for further marketing and that resulted in another controversy related to the poster, wherein a cisgender woman cosplayed as the depicted trans woman, CDPR made it one of the finalists in the contest, and it predictably led to outcry for being tone-deaf at best, malicious at worst.

The larger issues with the poster itself (and CDPR as a whole) are in the article, but the cosplay thing really comes down to this bit in the article:

CDPR also included a cisgender cosplayer as the Mix It Up girl among their cosplay contest finalists. Even if you buy the company line that the poster represents how queer bodies have been appropriated for marketing, their entire argument is negated when they have a cis person dress up in that queer body as part of their own video game marketing.

If you’re thinking perhaps the model was well-meaning, attempting to create a trans-positive cosplay, trying to further highlight queer commodification CDPR spoke of originally, or just a misguided ally who got it wrong this time around, I have bad (yet predictable) news for you. Yugoro Forge, the cosplayer in question, tweeted that her costumes are “beyond politics,” and when pushed on the fact her Cyberpunk 2077 costume dehumanized trans people who are already subject to violence so frequently, she replied, “many cis men and women face acts of harassment and violence on a daily basis as well.”

So you’ve basically got them saying the poster is satire, but then they’re not only doing exactly what they claim they’re satirizing, but doing it in a way that can be seen as rubbing salt in the wound for people who were already hurt by the initial depiction.

My personal opinion on the whole thing is that they really just fucked up and couldn’t read the room, but they do also have a history of being less-than-kind to the queer community themselves (seen in the article), so I can understand why people view the company as hypocritical in regards to the whole thing.

If you like Prey 2017, and you want to kill things like an absolute monster, and you want to play as a girl, Dishonored 2 is a good fit for all of those things. It’s not indie, and I’m not sure you can see boobs, but it’s a great game by any measure (though it’s not well optimized on PC). It’s not an RPG and it lacks the large skill tree of Prey, but it is an action-forward stealth immersive sim with cool eldritch super powers.

Yikes. Is the review in the screenshot true? They got root anticheat? Or rootkit data harvesting?

FauxLiving, (edited )

No, it’s misinformation and people who uncritically repeat things without verification.

I’ve had the game installed for years and have to manually apply updates, there hasn’t been one. e: I just checked, last update in Steam is dated 2022

All they’ve done is make their TOS universal across all of their games.

e: adding this from last post. TL;DR: People are spreading misinformation

So, let’s look into the claims.

Here’s the TOS:

www.take2games.com/legal/en-US/

There is nothing about root level access.

In addition, if you look at the patch history for Borderlands 2 on SteamDB, you will see that the last update for the game was 4 August 2022.

So, to be clear: There is nothing in the TOS that requires you to submit to a rootkit and there is no spyware that has been added. The comment in the OP is simply wrong.

Diurnambule,

He said it, root access level in the TOS of BorderLand. Not that a root kit is included, but that they allowed them self to inclid it whenever they can. That not misinformation…

FauxLiving,

He said it

That not misinformation…

It is misinformation if the things he said are not true.

So, let’s look into the claims.

Cataphract,

I’m really curious on what actual specific steps you took to “check”. It took me about a few minutes of reading to find it.

Warl0k3,

That… doesn’t actually rebut anything FauxLiving said. That they may use anti-cheat, and that they may have automatic updates, aren’t the claims in question here.

Crashumbc,

Ummm those two would statements would in fact allow them to install a “anticheat” rookit/kernel program at any time without your knowledge…

Diurnambule, (edited )

He said they added a kernel level anticheat in the TOS which is true. But they seem to have not included it in the game yet. But they tell that by possedong the game you allow them to. Edit : typo but can’t correct “possedong” now

wetbeardhairs,

Hadriscus,

That’s a typo from an i to an o, commenter probably meant possessing but made a mistake and tried to type posseding, I suspect their native language is french given their username and “to possess” in french is “posséder”.

That being said, a possedong sounds intriguing

I apparently love downvotes but here goes: All the Borderlands games (annoying childish cell-shaded skinner-box) and everything Gearbox is and has ever created it utter shit. The CEO is a garbage person, and thier dealings with Epic is Capitalist-Oink-Piggy shite! "“FUCK YOU 2K & GEARBOX, AND FUCK YOU BORDERLANDS!”

red,

Apart from the politics, the Borderlands games themselves are hardly utter shit for the most part.

Vanilla_PuddinFudge, (edited )

The writing is garbage but,… it’s a game for edgy teenagers. It would be.

The gameplay for me is Diablo with guns. It would suck for anyone not into that. If anyone isn’t into that, don’t buy Borderlands games.

red,

Got to argue, I’m a 39 year old gamer, started with PCs back in 90s.

The games are casual fun, they work great as co-op shooters. Story is what it is, but the games themselves are lighthearted and just pure entertaining fun.

Not masterpieces. Just good.

keckbug,

The first felt really fresh at the time. FPS was dominated by various milsim shooters and Halo, and the irreverence and clever cell shading style worked well.

Two dialed things up in scope and scale and added some nice environmental variety.

But the rest? The presequel? The 3rd? I just couldn’t. It was more of the same, tired, repetitive, the jokes started really scraping the bottom of the barrel. I had fun early on, but I’m out.

bitwolf,

I liked 1 and 2. Got bored for the prequel and 3 early on.

Tiny Tinas I did play and really enjoyed that game. It felt like a reasonable advancement over BL 1 and 2. It felt like they stagnated for a bit and raised the bar slightly with Tinas.

I really wanted an MMO style Borderlands with 4, and I wouldn’t value 4 any higher than Tinas launch price. But I am interested in what the game has to offer.

If you liked only the first two, def give Tina’s a try, if it has a good sale.

MrScottyTay,

I loved the gameplay of pre sequel. But the writing for that was constantly throwing me for a loop on how any of it was greenlit. I didn’t mind the writing in 1 and 2, I got a few chuckles out of that. Pre sequel just made me groan, moan and yawn.

JackbyDev,

What are you arguing with? I don’t see your comment as contradictory to theirs at all.

red,

I guess his premise, that it’s for edgy teens. Heck, half the pop references were ancient on launch.

JackbyDev,

You would’ve been 16 years old on launch if you’re 39 now though.

red,

True, but I’ve been couch-cooping them only recently.

propitiouspanda,

I think they’re pretty terrible.

I’ve tried multiple times to get in to them and I’ve come to the conclusion they’re just for a gamer with lower standards than me.

This is also based off of the games that I see borderlands fans like that I think suck ass.

dil,

Except lawbreakers but he tainted it by supporting it and made ppl against it

Crankenstein,

Bro thank you for mentioning Lawbreakers. Such a fun game that was cut short.

propitiouspanda,

Lawbreakers was made by Boss Key studios, headed by Cliff Blezsinski who was the guy behind Gears of War.

You may be thinking of Battleborn, which was made by Gearbox.

psycho_driver,

You’re definitely right about Pitchford or w/e dingleberry’s name is.

ms_lane,

everything Gearbox is and has ever created it utter shit

OpFor was good, Blue Shift was alright too.

Everything since they stole the whole idea of Borderlands has been bad though.

MentalEdge,
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

I’m sorry, but Battleborn was brilliant. Deadlock is the first game to re-capture (and expand on) the mix of mechanics Battleborn put together.

Didn’t stop Gearbox from shutting it down so that no-one who bought it could ever play again. Not even the story campaign.

Korhaka,

Yes, but it should still be illegal for a company to do this. Don’t let them blame the users for accepting this bullshit. As Louis Rossmann would say, they have the mentality of a rapist.

propitiouspanda,

Hear hear!

Borderlands is a neat concept, but it’s ruined by an awful studio and reddit-tier ‘humor.’

It was nice to see Battleborn fail because honestly that’s what the studio deserves.

sp3ctr4l, (edited )

Yep, I am jumping in with you on this one.

The cell-shaded art style? Not the problem, imo.

The problem is the just astoundingly terrible writing, immensely insufferable characters, and astonishingly brain dead gameplay.

Why have weapon balance ortactically interesting scenarios or any real sense of progression in gameplay when we can just procedurally generate guns and do everything we can to make everything into roughly the same level of bullet sponge with auto levelling?

They are the lowest common denominator of co-op shooter games, made for people who enjoy bombastic sensory overload and near zero prefrontal cortex brain activity while gaming.

What’s Steam got to do with Borderlands 2 having a rootkit?

Blackmist,

You’re right that it’s not Valve they’re mad at, buuuuut…

They could regulate that no games they sell can have rootkits and delist the ones that do, as well as offer refunds if a rootkit is patched in in the future. They have lots of rules already, and I don’t think that would be a bad one.

So should Walmart stop selling products that I deem unfit based on my personal preferences too? Say goodbye to animal fats, products made in the US, ultra processed foods, some fruit I just don’t like the taste of, all Nestlé products…

I think you get the point.

Blackmist,

If somebody put strychnine in the guacamole, I’d expect Walmart to remove it from the shelves and offer refunds to anyone that bought it.

If somebody distributed malware through Steam, I’d expect them to stop it also.

Not that there is currently malware in Borderlands 2, but their EULA says they could put it there if they wanted, and there’s nothing you could do about it.

As usual, money is the best message. So if they do put it into a game you’ve paid for, request a refund. If Valve starts losing money, they will change their rules.

Diurnambule,

Steam refunded me multiple time for game where EULA changed and I disagreed with it. I told them that the EULA changed to include spyware capabilities and I don’t agree with the EULA change.

BlameTheAntifa,

I didnt realize Steam would do that. There have been several times where EULAs changed or malware was added a year or more later and I just assumed I had no recourse.

Diurnambule,

Dépend on the backslash they get. I have to admit it didn’t work each time. Last time I did it was for a psn account requirement added after they sold it

gamermanh,

I actually tried this with BL2 last week and got told “no, you’ve owned it for almost 10 years”

I find it hard to disagree with that notion, but also have a pirated copy with my saves backed up ready to fucking go

Diurnambule,

Yeah it didn’t work each time.I don’t remember the specific game, I think they got a huge backslash with some game and I kept asking for refund and telling them I disagree with EULA update which made my game unusable. I am in Europe through, that may have played a rôle

A_Union_of_Kobolds,

That’s a nice thought, and they should do that, but you’ve gotta do better at picking and choosing your moments

Blackmist,

I’m not the guy that guy replied to.

Just a random guy who thinks Gabe can put his foot down with these publishers. They already all tried going without Steam and they came crawling back.

Sadly, I am too caught up in the idea of it being a Pinnochio souls-like to ever take that game seriously. All power to the people that like it, however

v4ld1z,

I get that - it was the same thing for me. It’s barely noticeable, though, unless you’re very familiar with the novel and the Disney adaptation. It’s a very tasteful homage to the novel by Carlo Collodi, but you don’t need to have read the novel to appreciate the game for what it is. It’s essentially Bloodborne 2 for what it’s worth. Truly amazing game.

Might just be a tad biased :D But if you keep an open mind about it and that’s all that’s keeping you from giving it a try, I promise you - you won’t regret trying it. There should still be a demo for the game if you’re up for it. :)

Crankenstein,

Spoiler lore reveals from the ending

spoilerIt is much more than just Pinocchio’s story. Dorothy makes an appearance and there are hints of Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty & the Beast and a few others are alluded to throughout the game if you pay close attention.

The story also takes after the older rendition of the tale that is much more mature in its representation of themes. Think of it like a “Brothers Grimm” version instead of the watered down Disney edition.
