This explains how Sony clawed back market share in the second half of the PS3 gen, but you’re missing one crucial detail: the Xbox One. One cannot overstate how badly Microsoft misread the room and flubbed the reveal of the XbOne. The all-digital announcement in a time when physical games were still king, the required Kinect, the always-online requirement…they basically wrote the playbook on how to piss off reddit gamers. Sony had built up good will by becoming more pro-consumer over the PS3 gen, so then all they had to do in 2013 was say “the PS4 is just like the PS3 but better” and they were heralded as the saviors of gaming.
dang i had not heard about this unlicensed controllers thing. I find this move very baffling, given Microsoft’s current position in the gaming market. This is the kind of move you make when you are in first place, because you have market dominance to shield your company from the effects of bad publicity. Yet in spite of two massive acquisitions, Xbox is still the third-place console. And after 3 years of the Xbox SeX and PS5, it’s kind of looking like they’re going to stay in last place unless they start packing their release calendar with A-tier exclusives.
So if Xbox is still in last place, why are they going out of their way to burn the goodwill they’ve been building up over the last 6 years?
I’d bet that the “former WOW devs” population encompasses like 30% of all working game devs at this point. It’s been going for so long and I’m sure a lot of small roles were filled with short-term employees.
Ohhhh gotcha you’re wishing the cinematic camera mod was in the game 😂 that was the name of the mod that did that in CS1. lack of mods is another reason I’m holding off on this one!
I wish for a way to capture 30-60 seconds of a simulation to go forward and backwards in Photo mode.
Pretty sure both Nvidia and the Windows Game Bar (Win+G I think?) have recording functionality. Not exactly what you’re looking for, but an easy way to capture a short vid and then scrub through later for screenshots.
Here’s a pre-release video from City Planner Plays that discusses the new roadway options. I believe even C:S1 added in snap-to-angle options eventually, which made it very easy to build roads at right angles. Unless you mean parallel roads? This is something that vanilla C:S1 did not have, but it looks like C:S2 has that on launch. The new road-building tools are one of the features that had me most hyped.
If you compare the game on max settings to modded C:S1 (and if you ignore the leveling plot issues), I actually think it looks better than C:S1, or at least pretty close.
Nintendo is very good about this in all their games. I think it’s primarily because on the Switch, if you are using an individual JoyCon, the actual button names are not consistent, so you have to rely on the position of the button to convey which one you want players to press. I don’t think you can control BOTW or TOTK with an individual JoyCon, but I imagine they have those assets just ready to go.
oh man. It’s wild how prestige games are always trying so hard to be like prestige movies and TV, but somehow they have not yet adopted the practice of the recap.
thank you for your take! you make a valid point. Also dunkey clearly edited that down to every critical thing he said about the game and none of the positive things. The point stands that I have trouble trusting review scores on Mario games, and this is me speaking as someone that loves Mario games and is hyped for Wonder.
