I’ve been wrapping up endgame dungeons in Clair Obscur this week, having played through the story last week. I was a big PS1 final fantasy fan as a kid that later got into dark souls/Sekiro, so this game hit so hard for me. I can’t recommend it strongly enough if you’ve been a fan of these genres.
Alex Garland is a pretty good director. Ex Machina is one of my favourite films and Annihilation was a demonstration that he isn’t so tied down by the source media, but does capture the spiritual essence of a book adaptation, at least.
He’s a pretty proven writer and director and has written for video games before (DMC 2013). Elden Ring as a universe has a lot of interesting angles you could approach a story from. I think as an action souls game adaptation , it will be hard to avoid trying to please the two groups of people: one that wants a compelling narrative and another that just wants to see a big boss fight on screen.
Not to mention Randy didn’t have the same alternative high quality games to buy for way less than $80 back then. The price of top games was the price, now there is so much good stuff for less. Why should we pay $80 for yet another borderlands?
Honestly, if these versions have the complete up-to-date game printed on them that do not require servers to validate or update in order for me to play the game in the future, I do see the value in this. Doom the Dark Ages 85 megabytes news the other day was harrowing. Physical media hasn’t had the full game on it for a lot of games for quite a while now. If your disc doesn’t have the full game on it, then I don’t believe you own a physical copy of the game.
