Holy fuck, that price though. How about an open source wireless VR headset that’s…wait for it…just a headset, that runs on whatever computer you connect it to?

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Sony published a whopping 2 games for this headset. It should be absolutely no surprise to anyone that it’s failing.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Thousands of hours on high brightness with a static image and it will start to retain elements of the image.

The torture test is important but what ya boi needs to do now is to create a more realistic test. Using static elements for maybe 6 hours at a time every day. That’s still “torture” as most users are probably not playing the same game for that long, but still within the realm of possibility.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

But this also accelerates the potential wear, just at a much more realistic rate.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

You’ll definitely have users gaming on the thing for 8+ hours every day

Yes, that’s exactly my point. Definitely some but not many.

Like I said, you might as well just wait for users to report their experiences.

Report them to whom, exactly? Not everyone is going to hop onto the internet to publicly report their issues. How are you going to account for the conditions? What if there’s nothing to report?

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

In all likelihood, yes, the Switch 2 will be backward-compatible

X

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Yep. Doom Eternal tried to pull this shit on me.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

I wonder if they’re counting all the giveaways in the “sold units”.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

I don’t care about skins like, at all. And intentionally leave my characters with whatever the defaults are just to show other people how much I don’t care.

But definitely in my younger years wanted whatever was the hot thing at the time. I remember at one point it was yo-yos. And the “TalkBack” from Home Alone. And Furby. And Tomagotchi.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Pretty sure this still falls into the gray area of “lawful”. The act of simply breaking DRM is often considered illegal. But of course IANAL.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Fuck NVIDIA

Could have just left it there

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

I mean it practically doesn’t. I tried it a few times and the queue was so long that I just gave up. And now they want you to watch ads.

helenslunch, (edited )
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Yeah I have to disagree with you on that one. I understand where you’re coming from but you can game on high end equipment without buying it. Not to mention the situation with heat build-up in my room. Basically sharing the costs with 100 other users.

When my current PC is dead in 5 years or whatever I will probably transition to cloud gaming (and SteamDeck).

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

GeForce Now doesn’t lease games. Just let’s you run games you already own on other stores using cloud hardware.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

instead of defaulting to my local server, manually chose one in Europe, and sure enough Europe had many available servers, I could play in again like if it was the first state

That sounds like a bad design…

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

giving the user the choice is considerably in favour of them

Yes but you can allow the user to have a choice while also having sensible defaults.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Okay? You still can’t “lease games” from them.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

No they’re not

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

You already don’t own your games.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Whoops, edited the headline, thanks

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

I think I’d rather pay a monthly fee of I dunno $10/month to play, if there is a $0 cost to install the game.

Maybe Xbox gamepass is for you.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

It would have at least been more logical…

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

No one said you would.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Yes, it possibly would be considered more logical, but people who threaten kids over videogames aren’t generally considered to be working with an abundance of logical thought.

You’re just repeating yourself.

“Logical” is not a binary position. It’s a spectrum.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Ah yes “bad faith”. Right up there next to the Strawman in “Don’t actually have any argument to put forward for $500, Alex”.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

You already don’t own your games. Or much of anything else really. You purchase a license to use the product.

At any time the people who sell you these products decide they don’t want to offer their products or services, if they want to abandon them altogether, if they want to brick your hardware and not accept responsibility, if they want to remove features, if they want to add new paywalls, they can do all of these things and see no repercussions.

The only thing you can do is wait until the game has demonstrated that it might be worth what they’re charging, buy a copy from a DRM-free store, then create a local/cloud backup.

How I bought Steam Deck OLED ~25% cheaper from Steam (gearsrealm.com) angielski

Just sharing my method on how I bought my Steam Deck OLED for 3/4 of the original price. I was skeptical when I read about it, but decided to try it and it took me a few good hours trying not to screw it up, but it worked out in the end. Maybe someone can benefit from it, but it has some risks.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

tl;dr OP spent “a few good hours” gambling and made $100

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

You spent less dollars but spent more time doing work and were paid in Steam credits. Dollars are not the only currency. That’s not the same as buying it for less money. The title is misleading.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Hell yeah. I’ll never buy an Epic game but I’ll take the free ones all day. And they’ve had some bangers this week. And Guardians of the Galaxy was an amazing game (with a handful of glitches) I was happy to pay $30 for. For free it’s a no-brainer.

Run them all through heroic Launcher so you don’t have to install the shitty Epic launcher spyware.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Yeah, I have it on my Windows install also. Couldn’t get Ghostwire:Tokyo running on Linux at all so I installed with HGL on Windows.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Hard for me to call any game a “stinker” because I am simply not into a lot of very popular games.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

I’d love to but I can’t get past their bot detection system.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

It won’t replace any specific human, but it can make them 90% more productive, thereby replacing 90% of the workforce (in specific industries).

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Wow!

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Rocket League has a really great ranking system that ensures that I’m always playing with members of a similar skill level, but also always challenging myself to move up the ranks.

I really wanted to like BattleBit but couldn’t be bothered to grind to get the better weapons while constantly being slaughtered by much more experienced players with much better equipment.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

It was always fun to go in on a brand new raid and fuck around with a few buds to figure out what are actually REALLY difficult challenges that require both skill and puzzle-solving skills. I just got burned out on it and just quit PC gaming entirely and got a Switch just because of the state of modern gaming in general.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Thanks dumbo

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Good stuff, thanks!

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Isn’t Baldur’s Gate 3 just DnD

I guess so? Never played DnD in my life and didn’t realize that.

Overwatch is only complex when you get past the early learning and pissing around and start learning characters and trying to counter pick. Which you don’t need to do to have fun.

Just feel like I’m gonna get my ass kicked by all the people who understand all the mechanics instead of just fucking around in-game. Would just be nice if they included the necessary info in the game instead of making you search it up online.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

You’re not understanding what I’m saying. I’m not talking about “fiddling, trying and testing”. I’m talking about spending your time browsing web forums and wikis in a browser. That is not a part of gameplay, that is external research.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

BG3 uses D&D fifth edition rules, and the game is set in the Forgotten Realms, which is the official setting for D&D right now.

I don’t know what any of these words mean, but thank you.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

and „being part of the games online community and/or using the communities resources to play the game“ is one answer.

Thank you.

You don’t mean to say that no one should enjoy „complex“ games, are you?!?

Of course not. And I have in the past. I just don’t have that kind of time anymore.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Thank you

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

I just went and checked it out and it’s free-to-play and the reviews are “overwhelmingly negative”, both of which typically keep me far far away haha

Also all of the “most helpful” reviews are just memes and not even reviews at all. WTF is that about?

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

everything that used to be free cosmetic wise is now payable content.

And they badger you every 5 minutes about buying it. Pretty much what I figured.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar
