Can somebody explain why game makers don't start their own companies together? angielski

It seems like every other week a game studio is massively laying off employees; sometimes after years of development. What I’m reading is that it’s a quick way to lower expenses and pad the investors’ pockets, flooding the market with developers and reducing their value, to then hire them back a few months later at lower...

acastcandream,

After I tried Hollow Knight for the 3rd time I finally had the realization that I just don’t like metroidvanias. Tunic, Ori, HK, Guacamelee. Bounced off every single one of them despite wanting to like them. The closest I’ve ever gotten to liking one was Death’s Door, but that took some work to get through. Not really a metroidvania but it sort of feels like one? Ultimately the music and vibe/combat kept me going and you don’t really need to return to locations if you don’t want to, so you can keep marching forward for 90% of the game.

acastcandream,

I honestly think it’s all the in-house directs now that really killed it. The sad thing is now they all get to control their narratives and put on a pretty, but tightly produced/curated show and we all lose the little snipes back and forth and comparisons that happen at events like E3. It felt more…gladiatorial, I guess?

acastcandream,

“…Sony Computer Entertainment President of America, Steve Race joins me for a brief presentation.”

“299.”

acastcandream,

I kind of miss seeing the pot shots they all took at each other at E3 tbh

Well, Cities: Skylines 2 is here, and it's another broken game release. angielski

I don’t really understand how people make the review threads, but we’re sitting at a 77 on OpenCritic right now. Many were worried about game performance after the recommended specs were released, but it looks like it’s even worse than we expected. It sounds like the game is mostly a solid release except for the...

acastcandream,

Dude 51% of steam users have 16gb. 22% have 32gb. It’s probably lower in the broader gaming public.

32gb is still pricey and far from standard. 16gb should at least be fine. 32gb to be “somewhat decent” is beyond unreasonable.

acastcandream,

Don’t they technically already own LucasArts when they bought LucasFilms back in 2012?

They shut it down within months :\ killed Star Wars 1313 in the process.

acastcandream,

it would be nice to see some really good Disney based games (I don’t play star wars jedi but I can see it’s a really good game).

Nah man. I was open minded with their star wars/marvel shows but they are all the same at this point. The look and feel has become so homogenized. Mando/Andor/Loki are basically the only things with any style of their own at this point and even they still 80% overlap (Andor less so) with Disney’s style executed in all their other shows.

I really lost faith after Obi Wan. Man that show looked and felt so cheap. The story was so boring. What a waste.

acastcandream,

Wandavision

I loved what it attempted and the first 2 eps worked great, but the bit went too long. It needed to be 2 episodes shorter.

acastcandream,

Yeah I don’t get it. Cyberpunk is getting serious rose-tinted glasses. I hear PL has greatly enhanced it but it just dropped and CDPR has been fixing the game for what? 3 years? That was a rough initial 18mo in particular.

acastcandream,

What? Dude the best part of the game is the opening 5hrs. It’s all downhill after that.

acastcandream,

don’t worry, the gap gets a lot smaller when you reach act 3 in BG3 lol

acastcandream,

it’d be shat on like FO4 was.

FO4 printed insane money and won countless awards. It did fine lol

acastcandream,

That’s an interesting theory for sure!

acastcandream,

Yeah, I fell off it after about two hours.

acastcandream,

Look make no mistake, the game visual is a feast. But that’s not enough to make up for all the other shortcomings. At least not for me. After the initial heist mission, which was unbelievable by the way, I just got so bored.

That being said, I’ve heard enough praise for phantom liberty that I am considering jumping back in. I’m not quite sure I’m ready to pay for DLC though after what was delivered initially.

acastcandream,

but you can prevent this rug pull situation.

Seriously this needs to be addressed! Gran Turismo Sport is shutting down in january after, what? 4 years? Insane

acastcandream,

Baldur’s Gate has held a month-long vice grip on me that will finally come to a close in idk 30-40 more hours when I finish act 3 ololololol

acastcandream,

Nooooo you’re not allowed to enjoy starfield!

acastcandream,

Wow, that is a name I have not heard in a very long time. I got suckered into buying it on 360. It played OK on a console all things considered.

It was fine, didn’t love it. What are your impressions so far?

acastcandream,

Mass Effect is a very slow, very forgiving combat experience unless you’re playing on insane. Pretty much everything auto locks on or has some sort of AOE component. You could pretty much play the game rarely firing a gun if you really are worried about it. But even then it’s not bad at all.

acastcandream,

I’m really excited to sit down and play sea of stars. Probably will be a solid three or four months though. Sorry chain of echoes, I don’t think I’m going to be able to fit you in any time soon.

acastcandream,

I actually am a really big fan of FMV in video games. If that’s a subject that interests you, you should look at the games made by Sam Barlow. His big one recently was Immortality though he kind of made his name with Her Story and The Lies we Tell.

acastcandream, (edited )

What I find funny is so many people saying “starfield is so open but there’s nothing to do.” But for some reason, no man’s sky has “so much to do.” Every planet is basically completely barren or has one of the same four types of points of interest as every other planet

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed no man’s sky and starfield does have surprisingly barren places, but to say NMS has “more to do” is patently absurd.

Comparing them generally just reveals people’s preferences/loyalties as opposed to anything useful about either game.

acastcandream, (edited )

Maybe this time it’ll ship with an Ethernet port and joycons that last more than 6mo!

Jokes aside, very curious what changes they’ll make. Incredibly unlikely they are going to target 4K but hopefully we will see a stable 1080p @60 across the board.

acastcandream,

I just don’t see Nintendo making the jump tbh. They always lag behind resolution and FPS by a pretty large margin. Maybe we’ll see 1440p on TV’s and 1080p handhelds, but I’m also throwing darts at the board here lol

acastcandream,

Because they’ve been standard for literally decades and Nintendo has released/probably will continue to release games that depend on streaming, such as Kingdom Hearts, which is unplayable over wifi.

Also more reliable MP/faster speeds.

acastcandream,

Yes which they bragged about lol

Most people who have a switch do not have an OLED switch. I do hope they carry over the ethernet port for the next iteration. They’ve added and removed it before!

acastcandream, (edited )

Ultimately the game still had to release on Series S and Microsoft can simply say “no.” I think this is just bar talk speculation taken too far frankly. I’d be surprised if this radically changed their position.

acastcandream,

Yeah but not everyone is going to be in Larian’s position, and those with that kind of clout also stand to lose out a lot of revenue they clearly wanted in the first place.

acastcandream,

🤷‍♂️

acastcandream,

The problem is it’s kind of murky now since most discs don’t even contain the game anymore. So yeah you can lend/sell them but you’re still dependent on a digital store. It’s just a license for a digital game in physical form. I say this as a physical media proponent.

I am not pro-digital only but if the discs don’t have the game I’m less inclined to pay extra for what is likely to be the first part of my console to fail.

acastcandream, (edited )

This is needlessly pedantic. When people say “physical copy” they are talking about a physical, individual storage medium with a game on it that you can trade/sell/lend/etc. and give full transfer of the license contained on it. My hard drive is useless to you if all my games are bought via the Microsoft store and you can’t access my account. My halo 3 disc will work on any Xbox 360/Xbone/XSX for anyone every day. Is the distinction clear now?

acastcandream, (edited )

Transfer the BDROM to my SSD. Literally the same thing as downloading it online. I don’t need it to read off the disc while I play. 360 did this and it worked perfectly fine.

acastcandream,

It’s dumb because that’s a fringe argument that I hear people reference as absurd more than I’ve ever encountered it. In fact, I have yet to see one person make that justification. I’m just assuming that argument exist somewhere because so many people have complained about it.

Starfield is yet another example of gamers getting outraged over a perceived reception, no matter how large or small that group actually is. I’m sure there are people out there making really bad defenses of the game, but the people who are angry at those people are much louder and far more numerous.

Most people who are playing and enjoying the game are probably perfectly capable of seeing and articulating some of the issues, but just because a game has issues doesn’t mean it’s “literally unplayable“ or whatever people like to say now.

I don’t know I just find these back-and-forth so repetitive. Every single game release you see this. The answer is Starfield is a perfectly fine, flawed game, that different people will react to differently. Just like any piece of media.

acastcandream,

It would be nice. I just need structure and it’s hard to find structure when I can only do it during my little free time i have around my toddlers :/

It would need to at least partially pay the bills to be viable.

I really appreciate the encouragement, by the way. It’s tempting!
