This got me thinking about Computer Gaming World and how, even if they came back, it probably wouldn’t be the same since they likely would not have any of the same reviewers, editors, etc.
Used to love CGW. One of the few review publications I’ve ever read that actually managed to be objective and not just be based on subjective feelings. Like, I remember one for an RTS and the review author opened by stating they are not personally a fan of RTS games and yet still gave the game a fair (and high scoring) review for its presentation, systems, lack of interfering bugs, etc.
Even without RTX scenery can look damn near real. But the moment there is a human in the scene, the uncanny valley fucks everything up. I don’t even get it because animals can look perfect and not trigger the uncanny valley effect, but humans always do. RTX won’t ever fix that.
BF bullets actually originates from your eyes. You’d think after 9 or 10 BF games they’d have made the bullets originate from the gun just to get rid of perceived “head glitching.” Even if it’s not truly head glitching, you can still shoot a motherfucker who can’t even see more than 2 pixels of of your head peeking over a low obstacle, let alone hit you.
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is basically worthless if you have Dark Souls: Remastered.
60fps, better graphics, better performance, QOL enhancements, and even better multiplayer features (up to 6 total players instead of 4, just like DS3).
Probably true of most remasters/remakes, outside of speed running. I do know that PTDE is still a popular version to speedrun due to certain glitches that aren’t present in Remastered.
It’s puzzling how stupid of a decision it is leaving it at 30 FPS even on PS5.
It’s literally the same exact game, the system just has backwards compatibility. They never updated it to be faster, and it’s not exactly an easy fix either since the entire animation system is based on the frame rate. You at least don’t see it drop lower than 30 anywhere on a PS5.
DS1 didn’t get native 60fps until the remaster, and the mods that allowed it to go that fast would introduce a bunch of bugs.
I finally managed to invade someone and it happened to be just outside the clinic at the start of my NG+ cycle. My HP was lowered so much, and I did so much damage to the dude while he did basically nothing to me.
I thought BB had the same level/upgrade stuff as the other games? I felt like I just stomped a level 1 character of a player who has never played before 🤣
Big Rigs is literally the only video game in existence I can think of that has the same “B movie” qualia about it. It’s so bad, it’s actually funny to play because of just how insanely bad and broken it is. I mean, what other game can you accelerate to literal infinity and beyond by simply driving backwards?
If they actually remastered it and made it a good game, it would actually suck more than the unique experience the terrible original offers.
The “other reasons” people aren’t buying affordable VR setups is because they don’t trust Meta or their privacy policies. If the new Valve headset was $300-500 it would go a long way. But $1200 isn’t it.
