Kaldo, (edited ) do games w Cyberpunk 2077 2.0's revamped police force is finally good enough
@Kaldo@kbin.social avatar

Tbh I'm still not sure what the point of it is. In gtav you get into trouble with police if you rob shops, steal cars or drive over pedestrians, among other things like scripted missions. In saints row it's about gang warfare and them being a nuisance during your city demolition. In mafia you have to obey road laws, hide weapons from plain sight and they are generally a bigger threat.

You can't rob stuff or do heists in 2077, you can summon your own car for free at any point so no need to steal them and since you can fast travel you don't drive as much anyway. The missions that do have car chases are heavily scripted and on the rails.

Is this something just for people who want to go out of their way to fight endless waves of cops and thats it or am I missing something that makes it such a hype worthy feature?

I didn't get a chance to play the demo so dunno, but I'm looking forward to reviews or a hefty discount down the line, it might still be worth giving a try. Considering the weapon variety I'm guessing they went more for novelty than a single perfected weapon style anyway so you're probably right that it won't end up being sekiro 2

Looks like they removed the demo since it fully launched now, but yeah I almost never buy games at full price on day one. I don't mind waiting tho, plenty of other games to play until they put out a discount and/or remove denuvo anyway.

This comment chain might be the first thing that's making me actually interested in the game lol. Sekiro is one of my favorite games and Genichiro is when I actually realized that because it finally got me into that sword dance flow state, or as the folks say - it clicked at that point. If LoP can get even close to that I'll probably like it a lot

Yeah, I'm not that convinced that the new skill trees are any better or that they fixed the gearing/level scaling experience. Will definitely give 2.0 a try but might as well wait for a big discount with PL, after all it's not like they are going to work on the game afterwards anyway. The team will be moved to witcher 4 and cyberpunk 2077 is being developed by a new US studio, IIRC.

Which is funny since the fediverse by its core principles has 0 consideration towards privacy.

It is really astonishing how reddit-like the hivemind here has become already, people don't care about even objectively discussing the terminology if they can circlejerk about "GaaS is bad ehmahgerd" instead, just going straight for extreme viewpoints and seeing it black and white. Really thought I got away from that when I joined here...

A game being "ass" is subjective and irrelevant to the definition of a live service game. These are just examples.

Your quotes just support my statement, the defining points are continued revenue and updates, not an always online requirement.

What are you basing this definition on? A rudimentary google search for a definition gives more than one answer and yet none of them have "always online" as a requirement for something to be live-service.

Hitman 3 for example is an example of a singleplayer live-service game, Paradox games like Stellaris are basically that as well, and Minecraft and NMS are often used as examples too. Nobody claimed that a game needs to be online to be updated, that's ridiculous, so not sure who was that clarification meant for.

Just because there are many games that do it badly doesn't mean the genre label means something different. I'm playing GW2 and Warframe which are very much live service games and I rarely, if ever, feel exploited or manipulated into giving money to them - if anything it's the opposite and the only occassion when I do spend extra on them is when I'm happy with content or updates and want to support them.

There are no exceptions. There is no game that has ever done live service in a way that is in any way forgivable.

This is subjective and I believe this might be the case for you, but it is demonstratively absolutely not true for everyone. You framing it like some absolute authority on the subject is just shortsighted and inaccurate.

Isn't that literally what they are though? Fortnite, WoW, Runescape, Warframe or Hearthstone are all vastly different genres of games but they are still live-service games at the end. What else could the term mean besides "constantly updated", they are a living, evolving long-term service?

@Kaldo@kbin.social avatar

I was really hoping thunderstore and mod.io would take off more since they seem more platform-agnostic and FOSS-like with their integration with git and versioning (and for some games they have), but people just prefer convenience of nexusmods and steam workshop unfortunately. They just have a bigger community and better discoverability in the end

Tbh I'm not really a fan of this stance either. If I'm buying a sequel I expect meaningful improvements, otherwise you're just ripping me off for something that could have been a dlc or expansion to the first game.

How else do you explain to someone what dwarf fortress is, for example? You need dozens of hours just to get the grasp of mechanics and UI, less alone to figure out whether you even like the game. Same goes for many bigger games, for example mount and blade (bannerlord) starts off strong with a promise of you establishing and leading a kingdom but once you actually reach that part through tedious grind, you realize it was all for nothing and the game's a badly designed, shallow, unfinished sandbox with absolutely no vision or execution in that regard. Good luck getting to that conclusion without already investing at least 50 mediocre hours in it though.
