DarkThoughts,

Lost interest the moment I saw that archery is still just a different kind of spellcaster.

DarkThoughts,

In before HL 1 & 2 remaster disappointments. Or just absolutely nothing happening, just like all the previous copium rumors. I think I stopped caring back with the recorded soundtrack rumors, which already feel like an eternity ago at this point.

After years of holding out hope, 2024 was the year I finally gave up on BioWare (www.pcgamer.com) angielski

I really tried to enjoy myself. God, I tried so hard. I attempted to find nuggets of joy within its hamfisted dialogue, one-note companions and the flashy but soulless fights. But I just couldn’t do it. Every time there was a glimmer of hope, it was dashed against the rocks of infinite disappointment....

DarkThoughts,

I dropped out with Origins, which was kind of painful because I really hate not finishing a series (Mass Effect in this case). But that of course was just the last straw after all the bullshit EA pulled and all the studios & franchises they destroyed over the decades. I don't even think they could ever redeem themselves at this point, not that they even make any effort to do so anyway. EA is just a rotten company and the epitome of all that is wrong within the gaming industry.

DarkThoughts,

On mbin I just get an empty spoiler titled "Details". If I check on Lemmy it's not even there. Not sure what OP did there.

DarkThoughts,

It's not that I don't like realistic graphics. But I'm not gonna pay 100 bucks per game + micro transactions and / or live service shenanigans to get it. Nowadays it's not even that hard to have good looking games, thanks to all the work that went into modern engines. Obviously cutting edge graphics still need talented artists who create all the textures and high poly models but at some point the graphical fidelity gained becomes minuscule, compared to the effort put into it (and the performance it eats, since this bleeds into the absurd GPU topic too).

There's also plenty of creative stylization options that can be explored that aren't your typical WoW cartoon look that everyone goes for nowadays. Hell, I still love pixel art games too and they're often considered to be on the bottom end of the graphical quality (which I'd heavily disagree with, but that's also another topic).

What gamers want are good games that don't feel like they get constantly milked or prioritize graphics over gameplay or story.

DarkThoughts,

I think we landed in a situation where some people don't understand the different between graphical style and graphical quality. You can have high quality graphics that are still very simplistic. The important part is that they serve their purpose for the title you're making. Obviously some games benefit from more realistic graphics, like TLoU Part 2 depicted in the thumbnail & briefly mentioned. The graphics help convey a lot of what the game tries to tell you. You can see the brutality of the world they are forced to live in through the realistic depiction of gore. But you can also see the raw emotion, the trauma on the character's faces, which tells you how the reality of this world truly looks like. But there's plenty of games with VERY simplistic graphic styles that are still high quality. CrossCode was one of the surprise hits for me a couple years ago and became one of my favorite RPGs, probably only topped by the old SNES title Terranigma. They both have simple yet beautiful graphics that serve them just as well as the realistic graphics of TLoU. Especially the suits / publishers will make this mistake since they are very detached from the actual gaming community and just look at numbers instead, getting trapped in various fallacies and then wonder why things don't go as well as they calculated.

DarkThoughts,

I always wonder how some big ass studio announcing a title that uses (high quality) 2D or 2.5D graphics would go. Like, pump it full of many hours of great gameplay and gut and / or heart wrenching story, with lovely & beautiful art, in 2025+. No online account requirements, no Denuvo, no micro or macro transactions, just a solid buy to play title that's a blast to get immersed in.
The problem is that suits would not dare to even try this, just like they don't dare to try anything else that's not your standard formula customer milking. And that's how you get the 20iest iteration of generic graphic bliss with hundreds or even thousands of bucks to spend on macro transactions and other pain the ass bullshit.
Innovation for the big companies is dead, which is why I focus so much on Indie studios and smaller developers now. At least there's still some honest passion behind those games.

DarkThoughts,

You'd have to pay me to use Epic.

DarkThoughts,

Epic being garbage isn't an edgy thought. But nice try at trolling.

DarkThoughts,

No and no. Clickbait bullshit.

DarkThoughts,

It's not telling me a secret, it's telling me that I'm doing something wrong and that I need to use CRT shaders, which are both wrong presumptions made to make me click on the video to find out why. Whether to use a CRT filter or other things like scanlines is completely subjective and up to a users preferences. There's nothing wrong with sharp pixels over blurry pixels.

DarkThoughts,
DarkThoughts,

What? How do you think multiplayer games work. lol

DarkThoughts,

Cloud based gaming servers are simply flexible game servers that have multiple international locations with dynamic load distributions instead of old fixed location game servers. There's literally nothing wrong with that over the old and less flexible method because this gives you servers that are closer to your personal location, which means less ping, and them being able to scale means it is less likely of them just crapping themselves under heavier load, because they can scale up dynamically when needed.

DarkThoughts,

Stupid, but at least better than for example Helldivers 2.

DarkThoughts,

Yes, but the gameplay is absolutely not tailored towards solo players. I tried and it was a mess.

DarkThoughts,

I think I just did automatons back then because that's where the rewards were but it was a completely overwhelming number of enemies spawning in non-stop. Combined with the sort of time limit I just did not enjoy that experience at all. Maybe you can kinda get better and grind through it I feel I'd rather waste my time and money on something that's balanced around singleplayer, even if just optionally.

DarkThoughts,

With or without the PSN login?

DarkThoughts,

What? Can you point me to the PC release from 2 years ago please?

DarkThoughts,

Part 1 does not have that.

DarkThoughts, (edited )

Fucking RIP. Ugh... This feels like Mass Effect 3 all over again. Rotten garbage companies.

DarkThoughts,

GTA 5 was so lame for me already (I just can't relate to predefined characters, especially when they're THIS unlikable) and GTA Online ruined the rest of it for me. Now that they decided to also block Linux I'm seriously questioning why I should even bother with GTA 6 at all? Or this company in general? There's enough games out there I can buy for that money that can keep me busy for longer and with less annoyances.

DarkThoughts,

Just download an image if you have a legit copy.

DarkThoughts,

I just can't imagine the extra vram making such a difference in performance that it is enough to play in 1440p, let alone on ultra. I have a 6650 XT, which is slightly slower than the targeted 4060 / 7600 and that thing struggles even in 1080p.

DarkThoughts,

Yeah, I think giving up after just two generations would be a weird move. It's not an easy market to enter and Intel knew that beforehand.

DarkThoughts,

Duke? Is that the Xbox 1 pad? Because I actually loved that. It's a chunker but was very comfortable for my larger hands. Reminded me a lot about the Dreamcast gamepads.

DarkThoughts,

The 360 & One pad look nearly the same to me in regards to their form. I have a 360 one still and I hate it because the dpad is the absolute worst garbage. It's inaccurate as hell and gets tiring real quick. Really struggled with that in CrossCode. I also hate how only the Chinese pads seem to have hall sensors.

DarkThoughts,

I only used the Duke on the actual Xbox, while I use my current pad on my PC - or at least very rarely. There's generally more games on the PC where I can make use of the dpad (retro & indie gaming). Never really had to use it on the Xbox back then.

DarkThoughts,

Disrespect? Lidl was specifically made to copy and be a direct competitor to Aldi.

DarkThoughts,

No, Aldi and Lidl are discounters. Aldi invented the model and Lidl copied it.

DarkThoughts,

If there's one thing I hate about Steam, it's their lack of moderation. There's Nazi shit everywhere, every game who's using "woke" elements like neutral terms for body types or giving people the choice of their pronoun, or having gay characters, or people of color, or women in positions of power, etc. etc. gets the inevitable flood of constant woke crying threads, comments & review bombing. There's many people who glorify the RuZZian invasion of Ukraine as well through their profiles, while I could not even have a freaking avatar depicting a person dangling from a tree, which was graphically maybe a small step ahead of a stick figure from a hangman game. And even outside of politics it's full of trolls and clown farmers (they should really remove that one anyway). You ask for technical help, and everyone tells you basic shit or attacks you. It's a cesspool.

DarkThoughts,

Some cases is an understatement. Ever since The_Donald and Kekistan, Pepe has become a hate symbol due to the wide adoption by far right trolls. Pepe might've never meant to be that, but neither was the Swastika or the roman salute, or other symbols that the Nazis adopted for themselves. The more pressing issue is that you should really not give people on Steam the benefit of the doubt of arguing in good faith. The whole gamergate movement is alive and well there.

DarkThoughts,
DarkThoughts,

Edit: Lemmy users and not understanding who people are talking about, name a more iconic duo!

I'm laughing with how relevant this feels to me.

DarkThoughts,

I have seen zero substantiation of this overly broad statement except for some ADL fundametalists making claims and the alt-right whacos making claims.

I don't care for American institutions, I simply speak out of personal experience on that matter of what I experienced and seen firsthand in many places.

Also keep telling all these people they are racist loonatics.. at some point they might start to believe you are make it a self fulfilling prophecy.

Ah, yes. They're only racist because I called them racist. That's the typical bullshit excuse racists use, claiming that the other side pushed them to become racist.

Here we see that you are also arguing in bad faith, and not just out of ignorance.

DarkThoughts,

Discord is equally full of racist gamergate incels. Not sure what keyboards you're referring to that have any sort of gifs, but I also fail to see how any of that is prove of it not being used by those people.

And if you think crying about black NPCs in video games, or other anti-woke shit, is not being racist / hateful, then you're just part of the same problem.

I've posted in elsewhere already but:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P55t6eryY3g

DarkThoughts,

I don't alienate anyone other than those who clearly are hateful and toxic in nature, including trolls arguing in bad faith, such as you who loves to put words into my mouth. And I'm not a "screeching" libtard or whatever your US centric green hair memes are.

Rogan has always been a far right pundit btw. That's kinda the point I'm trying to make here. Radicalization happens not by telling people to swing the Nazi flag, but subtly through stupid memes and how woke culture is going to ruin their lives.

DarkThoughts,

I don't know what entitlement drives you to believe that I should make friends with toxic and hateful individuals.

Palworld Developer Reveals The Pokémon Patents Nintendo Claims It's Violating (kotaku.com) angielski

Looking up those patents, the first alludes to a system where a player aims and fires an “item” toward a character in a field, and in doing so triggers combat, and then dives into extraordinary intricacies about switching between modes within this. The second is very similar, but seems more directly focused on tweaking...

DarkThoughts,

Digimon was inspired by Tamagotchis though.

DarkThoughts,

Not directly but I'd think they'd pull support for older system packages & kernels, which would eventually affect you. There's not really much of a reason not to upgrade your Linux distros though.

DarkThoughts,

Dialog camera can be disabled.

DarkThoughts,

Simulation? What? That's the one aspect that has been gotten worse with every Bethesda title. Their storytelling was always garbage. I never finished the main quest in Skyrim even, and the one in Oblivion was trash, the one in Morrowind barely existing. This was never the strong suit of their games.

Steamworks Development :: New: Steam APIs For Switching Game Versions & Beta Branches (steamcommunity.com) angielski

I hope more developers allow themselves to indulge in this feature. There are all sorts of use cases where the customer might want to play on an old version of the game. For instance, there have been some controversial patches lately to several Arc System Works fighting games, and players would very much love the ability to stay...

DarkThoughts,

Some use the beta branch feature for this but hopefully an official feature makes this more widespread - especially for those games with their big modding communities. I'd rather update the game a bit later when all the important mods also have caught up.

DarkThoughts,

Where did you get that from? Why would it be?

DarkThoughts,

Oh fuck that mod abuse cunt and his blog spam here and on Reddit. He left Lemmy because he got caught abusing his powers, not realizing that the modlogs are public. He's spamming his garbage site with alt accounts everywhere.

Anyway... Denuvo runs fine through Proton, so I don't see why they couldn't funnel that through even if the game itself runs natively. Or Denuvo gets a proper Linux port. Either way, a purchase is still a support of Denuvo even if they somehow exclude Linux, which would be a weird move.

DarkThoughts,

and the other 4 billion outside the US

only to the tiny world of gang morons.

DarkThoughts,

I'm not going to hold my breath, with how the development seemingly went.
