I think it depends on the developer. They might lump it in with other realism things like hair physics.

I think what OP is talking about is things being removed. It doesn’t have much to do with optimising the game.

It seems silly to me.

It’s essentially rehashing the debate of people being more comfortable with violence than sexual content. A game can have someone getting vivisected with a shotgun and no one really cares but having full frontal nudity will end up with a game that has articles written about it.

From what I’ve heard Stellar Blade didn’t have full frontal nudity or anything remotely close to that level but the outfits were toned down. I don’t think it’s really necessary especially when you can choose which outfit the protagonists wears.

I feel like this has been the norm for a while though with games getting released here in the west with women being less sexualized. I’m kind out of the loop about Stellar Blade so I’m not sure if it was censored globally.

I also can’t imagine Nintendo’s next console not being a mobile one so I think there’s definitely a market for a traditional stationary console.

… none of your friends have it.

I feel like that’s what kept me away from it. When I was younger I probably would have been happy with the smaller library but I never had the opportunity to try it and get tempted to buy one

He covers a lot of stuff other than Half Life and BioShock. I feel like BioShock has been a rabbit hole he’s gone down recently and Half Life (along with F.E.A.R.) is a reference point he uses a lot when comparing games because they’re some of his favorite games.

He’s covered RoboCop, Beyond Sunset, Remnant 2, Roboquest, Diluvion, Rip Out, Retchid, and Sprawl within the past six months. You might just need to scroll down a tad. His titling system is a lot of X game is like but Y but with Z so you might need to look carefully to see what peaks your interest.

Sleeping Dogs was a lot of fun. Kind of like Grand Theft Auto but more serious and a focus on martial arts.

One Youtuber that covers a lot of what you are talking about is JarekTheGamingDragon. Someone else mentioned Trepang2 for example and this was his review.

CorrodedCranium, do gaming w Forget Ubisoft's AAAA Games, CD Projekt Is Making 'AAAAA' Games
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

All the article is trying to say is Cyberpunk took development expenses to another level.

He may have been jesting with the interviewer, but it’s not far from being the truth. It was revealed that year that Cyberpunk 2077 was a drastically expensive game to both develop and fix. It cost CD Projekt a whopping $125 million to fix the game and pump it with new content after it was released – the firm spent $21 million alone in marketing for the Phantom Liberty expansion. That’s more than some developers spend on an entire game.

By the time CD Projekt was ready to move away from Cyberpunk 2077, almost half a billion dollars had been invested in the game. If budget alone is enough to make a game ‘AAAAA’, CDP came close to that designation with Cyberpunk 2077.

Someone else linked one related modding but there are several other Minecraft communities that are more niche. There’s one specifically for seeds for example.

I never thought adding a paywall was necessary. I was more thinking along the lines of a game being made easier to mod and its developers embracing the idea of modding like you kind of mentioned. This could be done by releasing tools to make it easier like Cities: Skylines 2’s recently released editor and Hatred adding Workshop support. I don’t know if official mod support Java would entail something like a built in mod manager, updates to improve modding capabilities, or some kind of universal package for mod files.

This doesn’t need to be done through a service that the developer has any control over. SimCity 2000 had a Build Architect Tool players could use in the mid 90s and sites like ModDB and the Nexus exist.

I’m not sure what the latter is called, but I’m quite sure there’d be a massive uproar if MS/MJ did that for java edition. I know I’d never play the game again, that’s for sure.

There will always be the option of raw dogging files into the game directory or developing external tools like people did with Mass Effect.

Achievement Hunter is what made me wonder. I knew they used Java for Galacticraft but I thought they used Bedrock for pretty much everything else.

I also don’t know how popular streaming Bedrock multiplayer servers is. I think they are called Realms.

I feel like Minecraft surges in popularity pretty regularly. As long as people continue streaming it and posting videos of it I think that’ll remain the same. I don’t know if someone who is looking for a taste of what they saw online will know the limitations of Bedrock. They might just pick it up because it’s available on whatever platform they use.

I suppose killing Java might put a stop to the content that is being created with Minecraft and that might cause it lose its relevance but I don’t know if a majority of content creators are using Java or Bedrock.
