Honestly him calling Ross a “greasy used car salesman” really hurt to see. I didn’t take Thor as the type to insult someone like that simply for disagreeing with him.

Kind of makes me wonder if his whole nice guy thing is an act. Either way it calls into question the person I assumed he was.

Apparently very, it’s taking heavy inspiration from NV as opposed to 3 and 4. It even brought back the failed skill dialogue options.

Microsoft was massive back then too and interacted with a lot of various studios. They notoriously forced Valve to charge money for their free Left 4 Dead dlc because they thought it would set a bad precedent.

So I wouldn’t be surprised if some Microsoft employee inspired the horse armor dlc.

True, but it’s not just clueless. It’s malicious too.

I’ll never forget how they originally introduced paid modding through Steam, then apologized when people got mad, only to bring it back with the Creation Club years later when the anger died down.

They literally only apologized so they could calm people down and do it again later - it was a flat out lie. They tried to justify it with Pete Hynes arguing with people on Twitter, swearing up and down that CC content were “mini-dlcs”, not mods, so they actually upheld their promise. It was a bs excuse.

But at least they had an excuse. Recently they straight up allowed paid mods on their store, without excuses, dropping the mask entirely. Proving once and for all that their apology meant nothing and that they’d monetize the modding scene no matter what.

And let’s not forget Fallout 76 and all the shady shit surrounding that…

It has its issues for sure, but the gameplay certainly isn’t one of them (barring the tank sections). I recently played all four games back to back and Knight has by far the most responsive and fluid combat in the series.

Imo the problems are the tank sections, and the story. Overall the story isn’t terrible or anything, but…

I’d rather be playing the game

You realize that character creation and stuff like armor dying are part of the game, right? Maybe those aspects aren’t important to you, and fair enough, but someone who spends loads of time engaging with that side of the game is still playing the game.

I’d actually argue that someone who engages with those systems fully, as well as the rest of the game, actually plays more of the game than someone who doesn’t.

Yeah I wish Hogwarts Legacy had taken more inspiration from Persona. Having a schedule, working on social links, engaging in fun activities outside of school, it all lends itself incredibly well to a Hogwarts game.

Unfortunately it sounds like the creators haven’t ever even touched a Persona game. I remember before the game launched they were asked if there’d be romance options, and they seemed almost offended by the thought since the characters are kids, despite Persona doing the same for literal decades.

Going to a ball in Hogwarts Legacy, or going on a date in Hogsmeade, would’ve been so much fun too.

Oh no kidding, I loved how they handled the curses. For the most part at least. Like, I would’ve been pretty disappointed if they weren’t usable in-game at all, but was never sure how they could introduce them in a realistic way. So HL literally having entire side quests devoted to you discovering the curses and learning how to use them honestly blew away my expectations.

My only issue with them is being able to use them in front of others so casually. They should’ve just made them unusable if you had another character accompanying you.

This feels like a weird take if you haven’t even played it. Like, how would you know?

The game is flawed, but genuinely super fun, and has a ton going for it outside of “Pokemon with guns”. In a lot of ways it’s what I always wished Pokemon could be, at least in the ways it makes its monsters feel unique and like actual partners instead of battle slaves, which is ironic considering Palworld is the one with actual slavery.

I also loved Wii Sports, Pokemon, and Mario Kart.

I’ve always loved this game and been surprised by the negativity most users have towards it. The writing is excellent, the world is well realized, and it’s the only game I’ve played in a long time that actually lets me kill whoever I want, and continues the story around those decisions. New Vegas did it, and Baldurs Gate 3 recently, but it’s sadly an exceedingly rare thing.

I also loved how all skills could impact dialogue, again similarly to New Vegas. It made every skill worthwhile, and made exchanges with npc’s feel more unique to your character. It’s once again one of the only games where skills like speech or barter actually feel worth it, and is the only game I’ve ever played, outside of New Vegas, where you can simply talk your way through the final boss fight.

I get that it’s not for everyone, especially not if you’re looking for a Bethesda open world game, but it’s a great linear RPG that imo is very underrated.

Probably because most devs stopped making their own proprietary engines, so the supply for solid engines is at an all time low. With less options they can crank up the price, as there aren’t really any other options for most devs.

This is super niche but I’ve been playing some older games from my childhood with RetroAchievements on my Steam Deck. Right now I’m playing through Pokémon Platinum, and trying to get all the achievements has me engaging with systems I didn’t even know existed! It’s really fun and super rewarding.

Also been using it to play SSX Tricky. RetroAchievements has leaderboards for some games, so seeing my time at the end of a race compared with everyone else’s is pretty surreal.

PlayStation buys smaller studios, usually that they have history with, and helps them to build games from the ground up - even new IP’s.

Microsoft bought a major studio that had a game near completion, a game that the studio fully intended on releasing on all platforms, and Microsoft exclusified it.

To be clear, I actually don’t like exclusives at all. But there’s still clearly a difference here, and I can understand where people are coming from when they criticize Microsoft and not Sony.

Same happened to me, I pirated it to try it out and after an hour or two I got bored and called it quits. I returned to it once more but after maybe 5 hours I just uninstalled it.

Yup, I’m right there with you. For me it started with their paid modding nonsense with Valve. They apologized, I forgave them, and then they literally did it again with the Creation Club. Totally betrayed our trust and clearly only did it because they were so desperate to monetize their modding scene in any capacity that they were fine with going back on their word.

Fallout 76, along with the preorder BS, the atomic shop, and their overpriced subscription service, all added to my growing distrust in Bethesda. And tbh even Fallout 4 really let me down and made me nervous about future games.

All that being said, I still really wanted to like Starfield. Unfortunately I just didn’t.

I agree, but how you go about that is important imo. I’m on PC too, so let me use a better example that might hit closer to home.

Epic games. Their use of exclusives has garnered more hate then almost any other storefront in the pc space. But it’s not the exclusives in and of themselves - after all, people never cared when Fortnite didn’t come to Steam. Similarly, nobody lost their minds when The Sims was exclusive to Origin, or Assassins Creed to Uplay.

The difference between these games, as opposed to other Epic exclusives, is that these games were built by these companies from the ground up. Nobody cares if Fortnite is an Epic exclusive because Epic made that game - it’s their right to keep it to themselves. The same goes for the Sims with EA, and Assassins Creed with Ubisoft.

It’s only when Epic snatches nearly completed games that they had nothing to do with, that people get angry. So in this way, Microsoft is the Epic games of the console scene, while Sony is more akin to Ubisoft or something.

You can literally play BG3 as a third person turn based action game, with an over the shoulder camera. It’s entirely 3D.

The current iteration of Unreal is completely unrecognizable from its original rendition, meanwhile this new version of the Creation Engine literally retains bugs present back in the days of Gamebryo. You simply can’t compare the two. But, in Bethesda’s defense, this isn’t due to incompetence or anything. It’s due to resource allocation and incentive.

There’s a reason most devs have been moving towards Unreal and away from making their own engines, and it’s because making your own proprietary engine takes insane amounts of time and resources - time and resources that devs don’t get any return on mind you. For most, it doesn’t make sense to dedicate loads of time to polishing an engine, when that time could be better spent on your next game - a game that you actually do get a return on.

Unreal is completely different in this regard, as Epic actually does get a return on their investment into the engine, as the engine itself is their product. So they have every incentive to polish Unreal as much as possible. That’s why it’s so insanely polished and indistinguishable from its original rendition. Not because all engines magically improve over time and at the same rate.

I know Todd Howard said that engines are somehow meaningless, and then a bunch of Bethesda fans took that and ran with it as a way to defend any criticism of the Creation Engine, but unfortunately it’s just not that simple.

And to be clear, I want the Creation Engine to succeed. I’ve been modding Bethesda games since 2013 and am still active in the modding community! The engine is rough but makes all of it possible, and the community at this point knows it so well that it’d be devastating to suddenly lose it all. But Bethesda needs to sit down and really dedicate some time to overhauling it, and unfortunately, albeit understandably, I just don’t see that happening.

I think you’re simply misunderstanding what “3D” means. 3D does not mean real-time, dynamic, or anything else. It simply means 3D. BG3 is entirely in 3D. Every single asset is 3D hell the entire explorable world is 3D. So yes, it quite literally is a 3D game. With action. Making it a 3D action game.

Think of what the alternative would be. Is this a 2D action game? Obviously not.

If you’re looking for a 3D real-time action game then yeah, this isn’t that. But that’s not what anyone’s arguing.

Edit: Also… is your argument that a game like Morrowind isn’t in 3D? Just because hits are handled by dice rolls? That’s insane lol.

In BG3 you do have a position in 3D space, what’re you talking about? Have you ever even played the game? My money’s on no.

Metroid Dread is a side scroller in which only one dimension is ever viewable outside of cutscenes. BG3 is a full 3D world with full camera movement, to the point of being an over the shoulder third person game should you choose to play it that way. They’re apples and oranges.

If you aren’t strictly in real time for combat, you unconditionally cannot be or resemble an action game.

If this were true then the term “real-time action” wouldn’t exist, as the term would be redundant. Besides, how do you then define games that have a bit of both, like Chrono Trigger? The whole thing seems a bit silly to me.

Hits cannot be determined by any other factor but the vector of the attack projected through 3D space into a character’s hit box.

So again, by your definition a game like Morrowind wouldn’t be considered a 3D game. That’s completely unhinged lol, nobody would agree with that. Clearly your definition is a bit flawed.

You’re fundamentally destroying the core definition of very basic terms in a way that completely destroys all meaning. It would be less disgusting to be a flat earther.

I’m kind of curious to here about Nexus’ inconsistency. As far as I can tell they’ve been pretty consistent if the mod gets their attention. There was a Spider-Man mod that removed a pride flag, and Nexus removed that too. That feels consistent to me.
