I made a tower defense map in the Starcraft map editor when I was a kid , but it was based off of anti air rather than anti ground like the other TD maps at the time. I got it working pretty damn well (at least IMO) but I didn’t have internet at the time and that was on my dads work laptop so it sadly got lost.

I don’t think I could recreate that now if I tried, crazy what you can do as a bored kid with too much time.

God damn, that sounds awesome! Those map editors were seriously impressive for their time, so many cool things you could do with them. I also liked making “campaign” maps but with hero units and harder AI (SC base ai was too easy but you could set it to be harder through the map editor) or those “maze” maps where you have to keep the units you start out with alive through a bunch of different encounters.

Ahh good times!

What games have the most toxic communities? angielski

Top ones I know of these days are siege, but some people have made a case that dead by daylight is pretty bad as well. Like if any of you remember the Xbox 360 Halo days. I think those would pass for toxic today. What do you guys think? Is the most toxic community out there in gaming?

Factorio. The worst criticism you’ll get is “your factory isn’t big enough, it must grow

Love the game and the community.

Even as a Protoss main, Wings of Liberty (the free Terran campaign in SC2) is by far the best in the game. I’ve replayed it at least once a year since it first released. Mass marine/marauder/medic backed by tanks is so much fun to play with.

I haven’t seen Halo Wars mentioned yet so I’ll nominate those games. Both 1 and 2 are insanely fun and they control surprisingly well on Xbox if you dont have access to a PC. I’ve put a couple hundred hours into both games on both Xbox and PC, but I do prefer M&KB controls even if it works very well with a controller.

Cutscenes are fucking awesome in both games as well!

Another game I’d like to bring up is Stellaris. If you’re a sci-fi fan and like 4X strategy games then I can’t recommend this game enough. I’ve put 630 hours into the game since I got it back in 2019, being able to role play a custom or sci-fi inspired empire is great. If the amount of DLC puts you off, then look up cream.api. Getting them for “free” is easy.

In a perfect world that would be great, but there’s enough people there that the tired overused jokes would be voted to the top just like on reddit IMO. Even the various astronomy sub’s are terrible for having tons of shitty jokes over actual information.

@AmosBurton_ThatGuy@lemmy.ca avatar

True, that could be helpful but I don’t have enough faith in the average person for it to work out well tbh. I’d love to be wrong though!

From my amateur understanding of space, it seems to be a galaxy made of just primordial hydrogen and helium, back before the first stars formed and started creating heavier elements due to the fusion reactions that power stars and the eventual supernovas that further dispersed and helped to create even more heavy elements.

Another cool theory is that the first stars are thought to have been much, much more massive, possibly up to around a thousand solar masses since they were made solely of hydrogen and helium. It’s estimated that current stars couldn’t get above a few hundred solar masses at most due to the existence of heavier elements in modern gas clouds. I don’t understand enough to explain why the existence of heavier elements limits star size so I’ll leave that to someone smarter than me.

Someone correct me if I got anything wrong, again I only have an amateur level of understanding about space.

Fuck china, the CCP, and Xinnie the pooh.

Fuck anyone that supports china, including you.

Nope fuck china and their government. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, doesn’t mean you should expect it and support it.

Fuck china and fuck everyone that supports the CCP.

Ffs only on lemmy can you get shit on for telling ccp supporters to fuck off, china and russia are just barely worse than the states(also fuck america) for most corrupt shithole countries.

Fuck china and and fuck you, you tankie piece of garbage. Go back to weibo or hexbear where you belong you piece of shit.

Games that require you to unlock the basic functions of the game can suck my nuts. angielski

I have recently played 3 games that have forced a lengthy, unskippable tutorial section that runs for several hours of the game, just to unlock the most basic functions like buying the items, customizing features, multiplayer, and even 2-player split screen modes....

Factorio and Stellaris are another 2 great games with steep learning curves. They’re also 2 of my most played games according to steam.

AmosBurton_ThatGuy,

Super Metroid is the greatest game ever made and I will die on that hill.

Runner up is Fallout New Vegas

3rd is Factorio

All great games in different genres, I’ve spent more hours in those games than any other game.

The factory may need those resources to grow at some point. Best to stash em away just in case.

(Now former?) Telltale employee: "This is a sore subject, but I feel it necessary to add to the gaming layoff news: Telltale laid most of us off early September. Status of TWAU2, I can't say (NDA)." (twitter.com) angielski

have not seen this picked up in gaming media yet, but i would assume it’s forthcoming if this is accurate (which i see no reason to believe otherwise)....

I mean, the game definitely runs like shit but if you keep crashing that sounds like a you problem. My 7600x/6700XT/32GB DDR5 build hasn’t crashed once in 15 hours of playtime and I’ve heard a ton of complaints about the game but barely any about crashing.

Most people think DLSS is a better upscaler than FSR so that’s why people wanted DLSS support, but it only works on Nvidia RTX GPUs, while FSR will work on both Nvidia and AMD GPUs. Downside is FSR apparently isn’t as good as DLSS but I can’t confirm that as I have an AMD GPU.

AmosBurton_ThatGuy,
@AmosBurton_ThatGuy@lemmy.ca avatar

Yeah anything with a GTX prefix like your 1660S doesn’t support DLSS, only the RTX 2000 and up works. I agree completely, I’ve never used upscaling before as I’d much rather have a clearer picture at native resolution, but if I wanna stay above 30FPS minimums then I need to use FSR with my RX 6700XT running at 1440p. Didn’t think I’d play any games that made my GPU feel that bad for at least another year or two.
