Aielman15, do games w Baldur's Gate 3 ended up making me regret playing.

The comment section has become a meme already, but this post reminded me of the pitiful amount of games focused on dragons.

I wish there were more games akin to HttyD/Eragon where you play as a dragon knight, or games where you play as the dragon itself.

Aielman15, do games w Weaker subscription deals have hit indie publishers, says analyst | GamesIndustry.biz
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

A lot of gaming sites asked developers whose games were on GamePass what they thought of it, and the answer was predictable. Like, nobody is going to ill talk the provider of the service their game is on.

Other developers didn’t speak ill of it because of the fear of burning bridges, I suppose.

The Game Bakers (Furi, Haven) talked about their difficult relationship with GP on Vice (LINK).

“Game Pass is such a fantastic platform for players,” said Leprince, “so there are possibly more Xbox players than ever interested in indie games. Unfortunately, without Game Pass, it is also very hard for many indie games to be visible on Xbox.”

Basically, the problem with a subscription service such as GP is that it cannibalizes other games’ sales outside the service itself. And since you are not guaranteed to land on GP, developing a game Xbox may be more of a gamble than it is on other platforms. I fear this may become the norm as more subscription services are rolled out and start encroaching the market.

There’s also the problem with founding. Furi sold 78% of its copies through PS+, yet only one third of its budget was paid by Sony for the deal. Developers have to decide whether they need less money immediately, or potentially more money down the line; but for indie developers, sometimes there is no choice: they either accept the deal, or shut down because they don’t have the founding to complete their next game.

I really like the Vice article I linked because it’s one of the very few who tried to analyze the situation impartially, with data backing it up. Most of the other industry journalists at the time were like “GP is the future! Gamers spend less and everyone gains more money!!1!”, parroting Spencer’s bullshit.

Hyperion+Endymion by Dan Simmons. Such a wonderfully written book that evokes so many sad feelings.

It’s veeeery slow (basically the entire first book is build up for the second one), but it’s so rewarding watching all the threads come together by the end.

SR1 was discount GTA, but SR2 was its own thing already.

Huge and detailed world, infinite customisation options, and a story that balanced comedic relief with serious moments.

It’s a shame that the game is so buggy, because I’d replay it a lot more otherwise.

In comparison, SR3 had a lot less content: smaller game world, much shorter story mode, less side quests.

It certainly is a common occurrence, but I don’t see many households dropping another $200 on top of the cost of the PS5. If this existed back in the days, my parents would have told me to either play something else/go outside, or move the console to my room.

Very excited for this. Too bad I don’t have much time to play videogames like I used to when I was a kid! There are so many games to play, and they make them so long these days.

Aielman15, do games w Crimson Desert - Gameplay Trailer | gamescom 2023
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

Watching this trailer was… Odd.

Like, this isn’t a game. It’s a mish mash of every popular title of the past 10 years. Warband, For Honor, Assassin’s Creed, Zelda, Just Cause, Monster Hunter, Red Dead Redemption, Dragon’s Dogma.

It’s called Crimson Desert, yet there was no desert. I saw medieval castles, green pastures, even sci-fi intra-dimensional portals; You fight knights, monsters, robots; You meet medieval peasants, Korean princesses, deer-people; There’s even a fishing mini-game.

Is this a game, or an AI generated trailer?

Can I still play my Xbox 360 games after July 2024?

Yes, you will still be able to play the games you purchased on Xbox 360. If you purchased the game digitally or have a physical disc, you can still jump in and play. If you’ve deleted a game that you have purchased, but you want to play again, you’ll still be able to re-download it.

What about multiplayer games via the Xbox network? Can I still play with my friends?

Yes. Even after July 2024, you will still be able to play games and connect with friends through multiplayer on the games you purchased, as long as the publisher still supports the online servers. You can still save your games and progress to the cloud, and if you choose to continue any of those available games on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, those cloud saves will transfer over.

Can I still buy and play Xbox 360 backward-compatible titles?

There is no impact to purchasing or playing backward-compatible Xbox 360 titles. After July 29, 2024, you will still be able to purchase hundreds of great backward-compatible Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games and DLC on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox.com. We believe in celebrating gaming’s rich history and have worked hard to preserve as many games as possible through our backward-compatibility program. You can find the full list of backward-compatible titles here.

I started Tunic yesterday and rang the first two bells (east and west). Loving it so far. Too bad work will get in the way for the most part of the week, I can’t wait to delve into the game again :)
