teft, w Final Fantasy 16 sales did not meet high expectations, says Square Enix president
@teft@startrek.website avatar

I tried the demo. I was bored after an hour and was thanking the devs for making a demo.

I personally just don’t buy Squeenix software any longer. They’ve abandoned too many titles (mostly on mobile, but elsewhere too) and I just don’t feel good about giving them money. Last one I purchased was FF14 for the PC (which is one of the best MMOs I’ve played).

That’s just my take on things. If it happens to show up on Epic for free or Game Pass (unlikely on both, I know), then sure I’ll grab it to try.

crystalcorvid, w Final Fantasy 16 sales did not meet high expectations, says Square Enix president

It's a surprise to no one that Square is disappointed in sales numbers. As the article says near the end they are infamous for being disappointed with not meeting very unrealistic targets. I don't own a PS5 to play it on, they haven't been in stock locally consistently. But from everything I've seen about the game, it's a middling to good game. So middling to good sales numbers should make them happy. And from what I can tell the numbers say that it's selling better than that.

And the Vision Pro ain’t gonna save Mac gaming either.

patchwork, w Final Fantasy 16 sales did not meet high expectations, says Square Enix president

honestly, i started the demo, and while the gameplay wasn’t bad, the characters and story didn’t grab me at all, and i lost interest almost immediately. maybe i’ll snag it in a year or two, after the GOTY, during a sale

She is like a blend of many recent lady characters. I like her sun and moon motif on her clothes

thatsTheCatch, w Anita Sarkeesian is shutting down Feminist Frequency after 15 years

When I was young a dumb, I followed the anti-feminist YouTubers that used Anita Sarkeesian as their punching bag. I loved video games and bought into their idea that she was trying to ruin them. Now that I’m older and wiser, I can see that that was a load of baloney. I watched the original Tropes vs. Women in Videogames series and it was very level-headed and rational. There were a few things that the anti-feminist YouTubers said “well what about this???” and Anita actually covered that in the video but the YouTubers cherry picked and didn’t show the response. Anita has done a lot of good and has had so much hate and harassment that I feel she deserves a break.

The ratio of downvoted you got is...interesting.

I wonder what u/KalChoedan, /u/PizzaFeet, /u/Phrodo_00 and others dont like about your comment.

Edit:. At the time, upvotes:downvoted was nearly 1:1

Did they make the auto combo basically the defacto way to play the game now due to no cool downs?

Never put companies on a pedestal.
Before Larian, it was Bungie, BioWare, Rockstar, Bethesda, CD Projekt RED.

@InterSynth Exactly, people need to understand companies are there to make money.

Yup. You’ll always end up disappointed when they inevitably behave just like any other company.

The higher the pedestal you put somebody on, the further they have to fall.

I read this really wrong and thought Saints Row: The Third was getting an expansion.

I think just artificer. A lot of subclasses are missing, but Baldur’s Gate basically just has the core players handbook content. Artificer wasn’t added until Tasha’s.

NotTheOnlyGamer, w Sega calls video games that use blockchain technology 'boring'
@NotTheOnlyGamer@kbin.social avatar

I have no problem with a blockchain used in non-monetary context. Consider, for example, a competitive RTS/TBS which recorded RNG events or keystrokes to the blockchain, which helps show if there was lag, and helps to verify that the RNG is fair, and that both players aren't cheating. Or a game with a "Speedrun" mode, recording input as blocks, and making sure it's all publicly verifiable. Think of a Doom demo file, but encompassing all attempts from all connected players; new routes can be discovered quicker and cheaters can be outed near-instantly.

Blockchain as a concept is of great value to anything where public auditing is wanted. We've associated it to scams and money, and that bugs me. Including more aggressive monetization, speculation, and a profit motive makes a game less fun. Including a publicly auditable log of past events in a game built for multiplayer feels like it would be a value-add.

TheChurn,

That doesn't need to be a distributed ledger, that can just be a database. The only use cases for DLT/Blockchains is where it is undesirable to have a central authority.

Games will always have a central authority - the devs - so there's just no point. Nothing is gained by decentralizing trust, and quite a lot - especially speed and simplicity - must be sacrificed.
