LillyPip, w Peter Molyneux is ready to disappoint us again with his latest game, a blockchain-based business sim

Molyneux is the Shyamalan of video games. He’s done a couple of brilliant things, some decent stuff, and a lot of batshit crazy cringe-fests.

New titles are like Christmas poppers. You look forward to them because you remember that first time they were fun, but then you crack one and remember they’re mostly a mix of disappointment and the faint waft of gunpowder.

spark947,

I really like this comparison. Dude has publicly gone on record about how he regrets utilizing hype irresponsibly. I think acknowledgement is all we want, and plenty of people still like fable and black and white. I would root for him to have a bit of a comeback.

Cethin,

Regrets utilizing hype.

Goes on to make a blockchain game.

OK. I’m not anti-blockchain for everything, but 99.999% of the time it’s not the best option, or even a good option, unless you’re running a scam.

spark947,

Yeah, I mean we all know what’s up now though, so whatever.

Great game, but not sure it needs an HD remake.

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow,

I suspect they’re very aware it doesn’t need it, it’s part of their tongue in cheek marketing strategy, this time for the SDK

1simpletailer, w Starfield Is Bethesda's Lowest-Rated Game On Steam
@1simpletailer@startrek.website avatar

Starfield just doesn’t look or play like a game that came out in 2023. Fallout 4 was already behind the curve for it’s time, and Starfield is basically just Fallout 4 in Space 8 years later. Rpgs have evolved in both gameplay and narrative and Bethesda just isn’t keeping up. Don’t know if it’s a skill issue or it’s corporate suits playing it safe and setting unreasonable deadlines, probably a mix of both.

Starfield may be a success financially and find a fan base for now, but it’s going to be forgotten soon by most and definitely won’t be seeing rereleases a decade later.

bl4ckblooc, w Anger Foot | Gameplay Trailer

Hubi, w Agent 64: Spies Never Die - Official Trailer | Realms Deep 2023

I recently replayed the first Soldier of Fortune and Perfect Dark back to back and I gotta say they nailed the retro style in this game. I can’t wait to play it.

forgotaboutlaye,

I really miss SOF 1+2 – glad they’re still available on GoG, but would love to see a good remake of either one.

philycheezestake, w Assassin's Creed Mirage's narrative director fought to include the Alamut because it's so important for the lore

I’m actually looking forward to an Assassin’s Creed game for the first time since AC3, has the modern day story gotten any more coherent?

bestturtleboy,

As far as I know - no I played Valhalla and enjoyed the gameplay but the story is just so gone now. I hope this new game has it brought back.

harmonea,
@harmonea@kbin.social avatar

Are they still working on buffing the shit out of the same modern day protagonist as before or what? I only got about halfway through Odyssey (but looked up the ending) and skipped Valhalla.

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow,

I still can’t believe they haven’t just ditched the modern day stuff

philycheezestake,

At this point I agree. I loved the modern day stuff up until the end of 3. But then Black Flag just made it a boring slog with maybe one or two good ideas.

Wumbologist,

In AC: Odyssey it gave you the option to outright skip the modern day sections

CarterDarter,

Not any personal interest in Black Flag? Tbf, my opinion is that it’s a great game but not a good Assassin’s Creed game

Lem453,

I can’t believe they didn’t create any mods for BF, could easily have been like Skyrim in terms of longevity. People would have added full on trading and fleet mods like the old school Syd Meyers games. What a waste of dev time to create so much potential and justet it die.

ArgentRaven,

Ubisoft did finally make a stand alone version that’s in beta right now. Skull and Bones. They promised all the cool stuff we wanted and it’s totally separate from assassin’s Creed, but unfortunately they seemed to have botched it and there’s even fewer features than in Black Flag. Ubisoft just doesn’t seem to be able to make anything else except progressively worse AC games.

callouscomic,

Hey! They also can drive Far Cry and all the Tom Clancy series into the ground, while also forgetting the rest of their beloved series even existed.

philycheezestake,

Oh I loved Black Flag but I wasn’t excited for it like the previous titles and the present day stuff was just kinda spinning it’s wheels while making meta jokes about Ubisoft.

CarterDarter,

Very fair! I go back to replay it with excitement and it always drops off my face when I remember how god awful the present day stuff is… can’t believe it took until Odyssey to give us an option to skip

Caligvla, w Agent 64: Spies Never Die - Official Trailer | Realms Deep 2023
@Caligvla@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

This doesn’t look bad, but I feel like bringing back Goldeneye style shooters is a bad idea. Like, I get it’s nostalgia and all but there’s a reason why that game is stuck and forgotten on N64, it just didn’t age well at all. It might’ve been good for it’s time and platform of choice, but I’d say that in retrospect it’s easily one of the weakest shooters from the 90s, especially in comparison to games like Quake, Unreal and Half-Life.

Eezyville,
@Eezyville@sh.itjust.works avatar

Speak for yourself! I’m still playing GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. They even released it on Nintendo’s online retro store. People are still playing it.

Drbreen,

Why must everything be compared? If I pull out my N64 and Goldeneye and have a round of single player or multiplayer with mates, fun is still to be had. No one is sitting there thinking, this is shit compared to Quake. These games have their place in the hearts of many because of its gameplay and I for one welcome a new game that honours this era for what it was.

mindbleach,

Perfect Dark with mouse support and modern resolution is still a hoot. And there’s no abysmal framerate holding everything back.

Dragonmind,

Nah, literally played Goldeneye at a party yesterday and it’s still damn fun! We also played Smash 64 AFTER Ultimate and had fun too!

teamevil, w Insiders Say PlayStation’s Live Service Pivot May Not Be Going Well

I hate that my Xbox keeps trying to sell me on battle pass for COD. I’m not buying any more versions of the game.

Affidavit, w Starfield Is Bethesda's Lowest-Rated Game On Steam

Game is kind of ‘meh’ at the moment. I paid more for this game than any other in my life, yet I am disappointed in what it’s achieved.

The outpost mechanic is completely and utterly pointless, inventory management is a disgrace, questlines are forced and inflexible.

I will revisit in 6 months or so in the hope that modders finish making the game that Bethesda started. I have learnt my lesson to not buy a Bethesda game straight away though.

Astroturfed,

I waited for the reviews, and decided if I play it it will be a pirated copy…

chatokun,

I forgot I was paying for game pass, so that’s why I’m playing it now. I’m having some fun, but the revisit when mods finish feels pretty true. I only have one loaded atm, but definitely considering some others.

neokabuto,

The outpost mechanic is completely and utterly pointless

I’d say it’s worse than pointless. The only reason I can see to use it (outside of XP farming) is to make the grind for research/crafting easier, but it even fails at that since you can buy/loot any resources you need for less than it takes to set up the outposts. It can’t even make one of the other half-baked systems less of a pain to deal with.

Finally

newthrowaway20, w Insiders Say PlayStation’s Live Service Pivot May Not Be Going Well

It is baffling why Sony thinks studios who are known for their single player story driven games will all the sudden be rock stars at GAAS model games. No matter how it turns out, you’ve already got a dedicated fan base for these companies expecting a single player story driven game. These types of gamers have no interest whatsoever in micro transaction riddled online experiences. And by diverting developers away from single player content towards GAAS content, they’ll make worse single player games and half hearted multiplayer online games.

newthrowaway20, w It's Official: Marvel's Avengers Is Gone

I know it sucked, but I hate the idea of a game being gone forever.
