Legion Go does not offer a cheap entry point for people who want to get started. Sure the hardware is strong and probably worth the price. But it does not change the fact that the cheapest Steam Deck model is still cheap to get, especially with the refurbished program with official support from Valve in mind as well. But for enthusiasts who want powerful hardware, the Legion Go is probably better.
My biggest problem with the Legion Go would be probably that its using Windows and not Linux, so this is a downside to me. The detachable controllers are nice to have and while I would not need them, having them easily replaceable is a big bonus to me. It's a little bit bigger than the Steam Deck and the Deck is already a chunky boi. When my research is correct, then the Legion Go is 200 grams heavier than the Deck? That is substantial.
and a slightly better battery life will probably be appealing to some
I want to see benchmarks or tests with real games for that. We had claims with previous handhelds too, where they promised longer battery life. But the reality was they did not last as long as promised or under very specific circumstances only. It has higher resolution and hertz, so it will need more power. And it's probably not optimized for low power settings like the Steam Deck with limited power settings does, but I am open to this.
there may be a bit of danger for Gabe Newell and his team
Not really. Valve (and Gaben) want this to happen. They want the handheld PC market to flourish, because they are pushing Steam and PC gaming forward and make it usable for non PC enthusiasts as well. Even if Valve stops selling Steam Decks, Gabe Newell and his team would not be in danger. Unless this was a sarcastic note; in which case ignore this paragraph.
Me too. And I even purchased the official proprietary dongle from Microsoft and play it wireless. Why not Bluetooth? I don't like Bluetooth, as I have bad experience with it in the past and would need a dongle for it anyway. Otherwise, the controller works very well with Steam and with non Steam emulators. Microsoft knows how to make good controllers, I give them that.
But on the other hand, I wonder how it is to have a PS5 controller. First, Sony has open source drivers for it and they are included in the Kernel I think (tag me wrong, if it's not true). Plus it has some features, which the Xbox controllers do not have. I'm very curious, but the prices for new controllers are so expensive!
Cities: Skylines II is a next-gen title, and naturally, it demands certain hardware requirements. With that said, while our team has worked tirelessly to deliver the best experience possible, we have not achieved the benchmark we targeted.
Then why the hell do you release the game? So it's another rushed game and that is you can blame the devs for. That is what upsets me personally the most from all those drama.
Squadron 42 is the single player campaign of Star Citizen, that is supposed to launch as a separate game. It's basically a small portion of Star Citizen, but with a story and ending. I'm still not confident; waited too long for that.
It's even worse if you look further down on the other unofficial figures list at Marvel's Avengers. It nearly costed as much as Red Dead Redemption 2 (also unofficial numbers). My assumption is, that the license is in these costs included and why it balooned it.
It's an incentive for devs to put their back catalogues to EGS, after they just laid off 800 employees because they spend too much money. Is it just me, or does everyone besides Epic know what the problem is with EGS?
And yet the games on EGS are not cheaper, even if they are exclusive, taking the exclusivity deal and have less to pay to Epic Games. They still cost as much as on other platforms. So no, publishers would not sell the games for less, even if they could, even if it's a viable option. So exclusives does not solve this issue with pricing at all. The thing people "hate" is, that Epic forces exclusivity, taking the option to buy on their favorite platform/store, without giving the player anything in return. It's the same price. These deals incentives the publisher, not the player to sell/buy the games on the Epic Games store.
In example Epic does not even support Linux. Why would I pay money on their store then? On the other hand Valve actively developed and improves gaming on Linux; improving the situation against he Windows gaming monopoly. I would have supported Epic Games to build an alternative, but if the alternative they provide is like this, then I am not interested into it. I want to buy and play on Steam, because it is better. From my perspective, another game goes exclusive to Epic and I have to wait. If the game does not come to Steam, well, there is plenty other to buy and play for me. My money and time is limited anyway.
I know about Heroic, but I refuse to support a company that is so much against Linux. They purchased Rocket League and took away the perfectly functioning Linux version back then (and made it unplayable for a while for me). Why would I pay Epic Games money, if they don't support Linux, while Valve actively pays developers to program and help the Linux world of sides?
I'm not interested into Heroic Game Launcher. It does not address the problems I have with Epic and does not support everything Steam has, when I purchase it on Epic Games.
In the past I have used Lutris for itch.io and Humble Bundle (and GOG), plus the additional games provided through Lutris scripts itself. So I would use Lutris over Heroic, as it supports itch.io and Humble and for the familiarity I already have with the software.
The Anti-Lag software from AMD seems to get flagged as some sort of cheating from the Anti Cheat software by Valve, as it tempers the Counter Strike code. In other words, its not compatible. AMD should have tested and worked together with Valve, before shipping the update. It's not to blame Valve, because the Anti Cheat software works as intended, but AMD, because they did not work with Valve before launching their software.
Amazing that they even write an entire article, because a Wii U was sold. I had to check the date if this is April Fool's day. It's a retro console and maybe they wanted save it. Or want to download roms to play for free on it (as the shop is not supported anymore) for authentic experience, instead emulating it. It was probably very cheap too.
My first instinct was it might be a function on the server that calculcates the years passed dynamically from today. A quick look with Wayback Machine showed this number 22 is hardcored into the webpage. So the question is, what that means. Obviously it cannot be 22 years ago from the time of writing the article. Valve didn't exist in 1987. Quake came out in 1996 and then someone did the Team Fortress mod for that game. Which Valve created the standalone game Team Fortress Classic a few years later. And Team Fortress 2 came out 2007 (it wasn't Free to Play back then).
Or do he refer to some ideas written on paper, but was not able to create a game with it back in the 80s? Or it's just a typo and I over analyze this. I need help. Medic!
I didn't consider this to be intentional. But given that part and context (Valve loves to make jokes), this could be it. Either it is a typo or an intentional joke, which is also likely.
Company was ‘spending way more than we earn,’ CEO said in memo
It needs a genius to see that. All those contracts for timed exclusivity, all those games given for free. Most people just play free to play games on the platform and get the games for free. I thought the idea was to eat the cost and spend more money than to earn, so they can build a loyal customer base. If that wasn't the entire goal, what was it then? Why punish the staff (holy cow its 870 employees!) by cutting them off the company now? The store and launcher of Epic games already struggle to get better.
Unfortunately I can't read the article on Bloomberg, as it requires an account.
An individual review does not matter too much (unless it has good text), but an overall score can give a hint. In example if a game gets a lot of flag from the users of recent reviews, than something is going on. It's always good to have a way of user reviews alongside the media outlets. You can even see if the game got for free (on paid games) and how long the guy played it at the time of writing the review. And it should incentivize developers to work on the game. Better than having nothing, like on Epic Games. User/Player opinions are not welcome there at all.
The "first official Unity user group in the world" has announced that it is dissolving after 13 years because "the trust we used to have in the company has been completely eroded." @Stillhart I was still waiting. One of the reasons is that I wanted to build a new computer (which happened last week) and waiting until the game got fixed a lot. Both happened. Now I am waiting for the launch of Phantom Liberty in a few days, as the base game will be dropped in price again. That's when I go into the game for the first time. And it will be the best version of the game so far.
I have two different versions of original Mass Effect 2 in my Steam library and don't know what the differences are. They have unique ids and even the space for installation differs. Notice: This is not about the Remasters. Have a look at the links please. Can you tell me what's going on?...
Thank you everyone to lighten me up. Now I understand. While the newer version have all DLCs included, it requires the launcher now? The older version didn't use the launcher, when I understand the comment correctly. So when I play the game, I probably would play the oldest without DLCs, but also not relying on an additional EA launcher.
@Ashtear Exactly. The 100% rating is often misunderstood. It does not mean perfect game, plus every publication has their own standards. Therefore one 100% is not comparable to another 100%. And like in your example conversions from 4/4 to 100% (because it can only be 0%, 25%, 75% or 100%), is done so an overall Metacritic score can be calculated.
For the longest time I think Metacritic is a bad for the gaming industry, if they lean too much towards (in example bonuses for developers, if they reach a certain rating).

@OttoVonNoob I'm an oldschool Final Fantasy fan and the new FF16 looks not very interesting to me. The fights aren't what I want it to be and the players reported the game has a much higher playtime on watching cutscenes. I'm just not very hyped about the game, and disappointed in the direction the newer titles are going.
But that does not mean it's a bad thing. Game series change over time and not every game has to please me, such as going from FF6 to FF7 or to FF8, or the Zelda games several times. So don't see my reply as bashing, just saying that a longtime fan of the series is not interested into it.
Yeah, we know. That’s how updates to games work. If it didn’t change forever, it means they had to roll back the update and someone’s getting fired....
@dom Yes, but that is specific "real" problems you actually experience, which have direct impact. But in the case of the Starfield screen, it's just a screen, that's it. People talk how good or bad the game might be, as the screen is indicative of the game quality. This is ridiculous! It's just a fucking screen and nothing else.
As said, if there was a lot of garbage, then you could criticize the garbage and extra advertisement and such. These are concrete problems, not imaginations what the game quality might be. That is different from the case you talk.
@realcaseyrollins Are all maps remasters of the original MW2 maps? This game really doesn't feel like a new game, but was originally planned as a Modern Warfare 2 Remake extension to add original maps. That they will include new maps in the future is another good reason to believe that. This shouldn't be a new standalone game for full price.

@asteroidrainfall I think it's only fair to have a 14 days trial for 1 Euros/Dollars. One month trial period was insane anyway. And just to correct the article or add information; this trial is not only for new subscribers in general, but also if you haven't used it in a months. Then you get the offer again. I did that multiple times (it offers me again for 1 Euro), because most of the time I do not have Game Pass subscription.

@GamerKick Game is dead on arrival. There was rumors before the would be always online. Which at least most (not all!) people would have ignored, because this is an online focused game. But Denuvo? As if the masses would pirate an online focused game, that is online only anyway. I don't get this. Hopefully they will remove Denuvo after some time, like some other devs/publishers do.
Is piracy really such an issue for the PC Gaming industry? They must have some data we don't know. Why would they pay millions of Dollars otherwise?
@ReverseModule Looks like the growth comes mostly from Windows (-0.56%) users switching to Linux (+0.52%). MacOS (+0.05%) users mostly seem just to upgrade MacOS and are mostly unaffected by the overall numbers. Inside of the Windows numbers, Windows 10 (-1.56%) users switching to either Windows 11 (+0.92%) or choosing an alternative platform (-0.56%). Numbers do not add up perfectly, because these statistics are estimation based on asking randomly a fraction of the user base.
