Yep, would get this over the meta headsets that I have stayed away from if it got full PC support. Until then just going to wait to see if Valve releases anything new.
Steam Deck was reason I moved from GOG to Steam again. Installation process and getting the game running is so much more streamlined than using heroic launcher. And sync saves is spotty and I don’t think there is achievement support last I tried.
Wish they had a proper Linux launcher, but they don’t see it worth it.
Playable status with the green mark has been a pretty polished experience for me without issues after putting the settings recommended in the wiki. Those that have issues have been stuff like Mgs4 and infamous get ingame status.
Finals is the first pvp I’ve been sucked into in years after having mainly stuck exclusively with PVE. It’s felt much more accessible than other shooters with the variety of different play styles and the higher ttk makes my slow reaction times less detrimental.
I know Rooster Teeth isn’t perfectly game related per se, but their machinimas and miniseries using game assets were transformative for many of us in the gaming community I believe. So I think it fits....
It went from the running animation looks terrible to being blown away by the moves being chained together to form an incredible sequence. Amazing fight choreography that makes me want to check out the series.
Treat corporate accounts with professionalism and get greenlight from other coworkers before posting potentially controversial content doesn’t seem like that hard a concept to follow. As fun as social media can be a corporate one still represents the corporation so can’t go around treating it like its your own.
Ubisoft has said the recently released Skull and Bones has achieved “record player engagement” since launch, although it has yet to announce how many copies it’s sold or how many players it has.
I think most interesting thing about this discussion thread is that some of the trends back then are talked about like it was in the past. But, stuff like clothing, using allowance for candy or at worst cigarettes, etc is still something that all kids are still undergoing. It’s just the same stuff older people went through, but with social media and increased digital engagement and public exposure on top of that. So doesn’t seem like much has changed, but that now there is even more stuff than before to also juggle.
I think the one huge difference is that things are much more public and permanent than in the past. And sometimes people don’t realize the consequences of what they share until it is far too late. Long time ago stupid things stayed in people’s memories and now it can be digitized for record keeping. And social media makes it seem like somethings follow you home when in the past problems might just be at school, but now the issues and attention can continue online.
So I like to use Xbox controllers (doesn’t matter if it’s first- or third-party) because I like the layout, it’s just comfortable to me. However I’ve noticed that on all my controllers in the past few years, the left thumb stick will start to “give out” over the course of a couple months. For instance I’ll be...
I got a 360 controller that is going strong but my Playstation and Nintendo controllers ended up drifting. I think they just don’t make them like they used to. My 360 controller is still one of my daily drivers.
My girlfriend has never really gamed. But she’s now forced to move less than she would like to (health problem) and she’s getting bored. I was thinking of introducing her to a game or two that we could play together. She’s not the real action game type, and seeing as she has no experience with controller/mouse and keyboard...
Let’s say the PC doesn’t count and you aren’t taking into account backwards compatibility, emulation, online play, homebrew games, and the cost/availability of games....
I would say an OS being locked down to prevent normal forms of productivity like Office work or even web browsing at times would be a requirement to be considered a console. They are usually at best a media and game system by design due to the locks in place. So I wouldn’t put Steam Deck in the category of console for the spirit of the discussion.
No not really. Steam Deck I can actually use fully as a desktop replacement, since it is a full Linux desktop and can have Windows OS installed on it too. Can’t do the same with a Switch or PS5 or Xbox. Doesn’t matter what peripherals you attach. Console hardware being locked down holds it back. Even jailbroken ones.
A phone is closer to a desktop equivalent than a console. Especially Samsung with stuff like Dex.

I just consider Steam Deck more PC than console. Even getting games to work requires more tinkering sometimes having to switch proton versions. Console tends to just work in comparison.
I just go by what traditional consoles have been capable of. And only console that comes to mind that even came close to the full functionality of the Steam Deck productivity potential was the PS3 with Linux support before they removed it.
Can it run movie editor, code, blender, etc? How many people could be given an Xbox that doesn’t intend to game with it and use it for productivity?
By that loose definition Windows is a console too, since Steam can be launched with big picture mode so the device has a simplistic UI at launch that can be navigated by a controller.
By your definition I don’t see why PC wouldn’t be a console, since being to do some things doesn’t exclude it. And why exclude PC as console just because it can do a lot of things.
Wikipedia that you referred to before calls Steam deck a handheld gaming computer. If Steam Deck is a console why wouldn’t a gaming PC fall into the category of console.
This all seems arbitrary. It is all subjective anyways. You can see steam deck as different from PC. I’ll look at Steam Deck and PC as the same. So to me both are either console or PC.
You can also take it up with valve for their it’s a pc comments. Even the reveal they did with ign calling it a handheld gaming PC.
All Steam Decks (both LCD and OLED) are powerful, portable, PC gaming devices made for comfort and a console-like experience.
At best described as “console-like experience”
Steam Deck has a user-friendly interface specifically designed for its gamepad controls. Its software and operating system are tailored for Steam Deck, making it the easiest way to get into PC gaming.
This is also a nice watch of Gabe talking about the openness of the PC ecosystem and how if you want to you can install epic game store or run oculus quest on the Steam Deck. Take what you will from it but I feel like Gabe and the people who worked on the Steam Deck see it more as a PC than console.
This is one of the games where I think epic exclusive is understandable. But, due to past and future actions I still won’t buy it from epic, but will happily claim it in a future give away.
Piracy is a very noble endeavor to keep alive. Thank you Ubisoft for keeping us on our toes instead of being complacent with trusting digital platforms. Piracy is the true preservation and ownership.
In the past first party exclusives were the incentive for me to get a console regardless of Rockstar titles, and they just don’t have the draw they used to with them getting ported to the PC so I’m passing on console this Gen. So can’t even double dip like they want me too because I wouldn’t drop hundreds to play one game.
I ran into few moments where I tried to take an alternative route to take down enemies, and game deciding I had strayed too far and failing me. Game wanted me to just go straight at targets. Had timed where I did go straight ahead but I was going faster than the AI companion and got failed.
I wonder how much that will be true this time around. This is the first console Gen where I have no plans to get a console, so they can’t even entice me to double dip due to lack of a console. And if I haven’t got a console by 2024 I won’t be getting one just for one game. Exclusives don’t have the same draw anymore, since they’ve started getting ported.
One silver lining I see in delayed release is that I have less of an incentive to upgrade my GPU until then, and new GPU might be out that should hopefully handle it maxed out when I do get into it.
I love that steam reviews can make companies take notice and is harder to shove away compared to other types of reviews with how it’s always there on the store page.
Looking for those games that you may have heard about but never tried until you got a Deck. Or old games on systems you never had that you’re trying for the first time. Or new AAA games that just released in the last year or two that you picked up for the first time specifically to play on Steam Deck and have kept you glued to...
Having a years old steam account with a clean record then getting flagged as a cheater must suck when you weren’t even trying to cheat. Even if Valve plans to reverse it your account potentially not getting reversed would be a tough pill to swallow during the wait. Shitty situation.
Even if customer isn’t to be blamed as you claim being voluntarily ignorant despite past trends at the very least makes them an idiot. And the type to get swindled by everyone since they take everything at face value.
Big difference I see from Linux and Windows is that they are OS that can be installed on different devices. MacOS is not the case, and even trying to get Linux to be stable and reliable on Apple hardware after the move to their own CPUs is a project in itself with Asahi Linux.
So I can see the lack of interest with how MacOS is a very restrictive Mac hardware only type experience for most people with how getting a hackintosh working is rather involved.
Lesson is to make steps being even more patient and play backlogs and opt for older titles that are cheaper. Doesn’t even have to be super old. Could be just within a year. Very few games these days that are an absolute much play the moment it drops. Haven’t actually come across any of that caliber past decade, but maybe I’m too patient.
If they want respect it’s going to have to be through quality Sony or Nintendo type single player titles that don’t have a gacha model that gets critical acclaim. Their own Breath of the Wild or Last of Us type game that holds up critically as opposed to being a game where “gacha mechanics can be ignored” in a best case scanerio.
But, most of the games that are well known games embody the perfect spirit of capitalism meant to try and squeeze as much money out of its users over years. Mobile gamers may give it a pass with how they don’t bat an eye to how predatory mobile games are, but the gamers that the writer is asking respect from are less likely to give those practices a pass.
It’s the first gacha game I tried and it is good, but the presentation of rolls for items and characters made me understand how people can get addicted to it. People can choose to ignore spending money on it, but the free rolls is an effective lure for the types that can fall into the deep end.
Still would not want to see any regulation of it though, since it being regulated would be a move towards handing over real identities to companies to manage which is terrible. I do wish it was just a regular game with DLC expansions than at its core a gacha game.
I’d like to know too. Just me realize I don’t have a go to reviewer or site anymore, but been mainly relying on just user submitted trailers to know about new games and word of mouth when it comes to if I want to buy it.
