I’m gonna disagree with that other commenter. I’d recommend starting with DOS2 before 1. DOS2 is much more refined and generally less annoying to play. And they’re separate stories, so nothing in 2 would spoil the experience of 1

But they’re both good games worth playing, so don’t let that indecision stop you from trying either

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah me and my buddy have been going back and forth between easiest mode and one notch up. Still a fun experience either way! Just a matter of if we want a more strategic challenge vs. being pew pew gods

Doesn’t look like they’re actually selling this wheel. Looks like it was just made for this video

(I was hoping for a new wheel for iRacing lol)

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve played through the whole thing and maxed out my restaurant. I’m still not sure how to describe why it’s so engaging for me.

I think Stardew didn’t hit with me because there were too many mechanics. But Dave is just so light and joyful!

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Oh I didn’t know there were leagues!

I usually just jump into 3v3 competitive for a couple matches at the end of a night, but last week I did a tournament. Made it all the way to the semifinals! Which is way further than I expected to lol

I’m soooo thankful BG3 went with the skill wheel rather than the skill bars like in DoS 1/2. The bars were a pain to try to keep organized (at least on console or playing with a controller), and I’d always forget to use skills that were on bars 3 or higher.

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Ah ok I’ve only really played on Xbox, since that’s where my CRPG buddy is. Still trying to convince him to build a gaming PC. Or at least get a steam deck haha

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

I get it. I’m the only one of my D&D/RPG friends who likes sports, and the only one of my sports friends who likes D&D :-/

[SOLVED] Need help getting my dad to play Baldur's Gate 3 angielski

Edit: Looks like the GOG version is available for OS X, so I’m hoping that’ll work. I guess I was just a little tipsy when looking at the GOG page since it’s the holidays and missed it. Also, I didn’t think about Steam gift cards/PayPal. That’s another way of getting games on Steam without giving payment info. Thanks...

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Email GOG and ask them whether their version of BG3 works on Mac? If it ends up not working, you have a solid case for a refund

I know Steam would be ideal, but sometimes you just have to meet somebody where they are

smort,

I’m playing coop online with my friend now. (Just started, since he’s on Xbox only.)

Since we only play like 4 hours/week, and about half the time our gaming “appointment” gets cancelled because of adult responsibilities, I think it’ll take us a good year to get to the end lol

smort,

Yeah I have a usb dock with HDMI plugged into my TV, and an old Xbox One controller paired to the Deck. Basically works the same as a docked Switch

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

And it’s $250

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Ok I wasn’t try to make a judgement about the price. I’m not really in the market for something like this. I was just curious, and figured others would be too.

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

According to the Steam page, it does not have controller support.

I’m waiting for that too, so I can play on the Deck or on the couch

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I’ve tried using the Deck’s trackpads in games. I’m ok with it for an occasional menu, but I haven’t been able to enjoy it enough to use it as a primary gaming input device

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Ok, yeah I’ve tried trackpadding other games on the Deck and it was a thoroughly unenjoyable experience for me. Maybe I’ll try to push through again with this game

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I’ve played some games on GamePass on my Deck via MS Edge and xcloud. It works pretty well for anything where input lag isn’t a factor, like turn-based games.

I tried Rocket League and Forza just for shits and giggles, and while it’s not unplayable, it’s also not responsive enough to be enjoyable

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

I’m gonna look at reviews and gameplay first. But if it’s got 10+ hours of what looks to me like fun, then I’ll probably buy it

As with V, I’m not interested in the online stuff

One of the reasons I still play rocket league now and then. Everyone else can have all the rare cosmetics they want, and great for them.

But when the match starts, we’re all on a level playing field (lol), and when the match ends, it’s because the winning team just executed better.

The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion - 02-10-2023 (lemmy.world) angielski

Have you been spending hours trying to pass a level? Or maybe you are completely addicted to a newly bought game. Do you have a question about a game or would like to share something else? In the Weekly Discussion Thread, you can do it all!...

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

I’m so excited to start BG3! But my co-op buddy doesn’t have a gaming PC, and it’s delayed on Xbox. It’s ok though, because we’re still enjoying a campaign in Solasta, another CRPG based on D&D rules, although with a much lower budget than BG3.

In the meantime when I have gaming time and he doesn’t, I’ve been playing through DOS2 on the Steam Deck and with some mods. It’s scratching the itch at least!

What spec? I leveled as a holy priest in vanilla, and in retrospect I think that might be the worst way to level haha. Maybe resto Druid would be worse?

Those little handhelds look so cool! But I just got a Steam Deck a couple months ago, and I have a modded 3DS, and I work from home and don’t really have a legitimate use for another portable system haha

Maybe I’ll get it for myself for Christmas or something. What’s the OS situation? Or more to the point, is it easy enough to add roms and emulators and navigate to the game you want each time you turn it on?

smort, (edited )
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Cool, thanks. I’ll definitely look into the setup before I get one. I don’t mind fiddling to set it up, as long as once it’s set up, it’s quick and simple to use.

Yeah, between the 3DS and the Deck my portable needs are probably well covered. I have a Switch too, but I really only use that for Ring Fit Adventure anymore (the exercise game)

The Deck is a really nice piece of kit. It’s “portable” in a very different way than the 3DS though. I’m not putting the Deck in my pocket, and in its case it takes up a huge chunk of my backpack. Also it’s kinda tiring to play handheld, just because it’s so big and heavy. But for gaming for an hour or less, I really like it. Perfect for chillin on the couch while my wife watches her murder show

I’m looking forward to the ownership base growing—hopefully more games that don’t traditionally support controllers (like Civ and Cities Skylines, etc) will in the years to come. I’ve used the Deck trackpad in games a little, but it’s not an enjoyable experience.

Endless Sky

It’s a single player, top-down, 2D space combat and trading game. If you ever played Escape Velocity back in the mid 90s(?), it’s essentially a clone of that setting and gameplay.

OP, do you remember how long it took you to beat it? Did the game keep your interest throughout?

I did the demo mission. The UI feels clunky and unintuitive, but I’m looking forward to see where it goes
