I’m starting to find that HUDs in games clutter the screen and take away from being fully immersed in the game. I like games that force you to pay attention to what’s going on in the game and not numbers/markers on the edges of the display. What are some of your favorite games to play with no HUD? Here are a few of mine:...
People get immersed in different ways. Some people get involved in the story, putting themselves in the character’s shoes and imagining it’s a real world. Some people get lost in the gameplay, enjoying the mechanics and focusing entirely on completing the challenge. For some people it’s TV, film, books, or just chatting at the pub and losing track of time. I’m sure you get immersed in something!
Something about the narration just sounds a little… off, like it’s a bit robotic and slowed down. Is this just this channel’s style, or is it some chatbot-generated text-to-speech thing?
Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is coming to Netflix on December 14 for Netflix members on the App Store, Google Play, and in the Netflix mobile app.
They obviously have been thinking about in-app purchases, ads, and extra fees.
I know gamers have a lot to be cynical about, but seeing an announcement that specifically says “without any ads, in-app purchases, or extra fees” and taking that as evidence of the opposite is a bit of a stretch!
Lots of companies have products that exist just to compete with a rival’s product and keep the pressure on them, I’m sure Microsoft has plenty of products that exist just so they have the “you know we could drop this deal we have with you at any point and use our own version, so offer us a good deal”. I imagine they’ll keep the xbox around even if the likes of Sony and Nintendo do support game pass just so Microsoft have always got that bargaining chip of “alright then, we’ll run it on our own machine” if the others decide they want to change the terms of the deal.
They’ve been making people redundant left right and centre for the last few years. They overstretched and overhired after going public and are now being bitten by recession and terrible decisions, of which the recent licence fiasco is just one.
Rosalina’s story is incredibly sad. Mine was the end of Undertale (when you get to the house). The music in both was a huge contributor to the sadness.
That’s… a bold decision. Who pays for the rights to a well-known character/IP with lots of fans and then decides they want to attract a new audience instead? Guessing it was pretty poorly received?
I found this so interesting that I then went and watched the full version, absolutely fascinating view into how you make a video game in the brave new 3d world of the 90s!
I can understand invisible walls to stop you going off the map, or little “airlock” areas to hide a loading zone, but what is the point of this other than filler?
While many great puzzle games have a fixed number of levels, I’d like to find more with procedurally-generated levels to maximize replay value. Aside from Minesweeper games, so far I’ve found the following ones:...
Ubisoft says it was trying to put an ad for Assassin’s Creed Mirage in the main menu of other Assassin’s Creed games. However, a “technical error” caused the promotion to show up on in-game menus instead.
There’s nothing accidental (or “accidental”) about the ad being in the game. Probably was an accident that it appeared mid-game, they need to desensitise you to ads in the menus first.
Did anyone else find that CotL was a bit unbalanced? I had already maxed every unlockable ability and built a massive farm cult by the time I was about halfway through the dungeons, which made the rest of the game a bit anticlimactic as I didn’t need to do any more resource management. Hoping this expansion deals with that, if so I’d love to give it another go!
I think it would have been better if there was some limit as to how much cult time you had between each dungeon run, but there’s nothing stopping you (in fact I felt encouraged!) spending a while using your resources to build new things and making all your cultists happy every time you go back to the cult.
This is actually great content. I don’t come hear to read about which investor group has bought some video game developer, I come here for surprisedly well-researched shitposts like this which make me sensible chuckle.

What I am searching for is for games that support touch screens and can be played with 1 finger / one hand. No action games with fake joysticks on the screen, just games that work with a single finger or at least one hand while lying in bed and trying to wind down. One very good example is Civilization V, which has a dedicated...
Tinyfolks is a little indie turn-based roguelike you can compete a run of in a few hours. It’s like Darkest Dungeon except with the opposite amount of stress, and it actually only supports mouse/touchscreen!
According to Wikipedia it started out as a mod, Valve asked them not to give it a name too similar to their own Half-Life Source, then later Valve approached them and suggested a commercial release!

Based on my experience of the current Deck I’d say it’s not for everyone, but for my use-case it’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. If you’ve got a large backlog of PC games you’ve built up over the years, you’re OK with a little bit of tinkering to get some of them working, and you want to play them curled up on the sofa, then this is definitely the device for you!
All over Twitch, about half the streamers I usually watch playing turn-based strategy games are all suddenly playing the same new game. I watched a few streams, and it looked interesting. Normally, I never buy games when they just come out because I have such a backlog and can wait for a sale, but I figured if everyone...
Sadly I’ve seen a few games available for free recently which are slightly deceptive in mentioning that they’re actually only demos. The example that sticks out is Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, not to be confused with Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition (Base Game), a paid DLC which is actually the game. Obviously you see what’s going on pretty quickly, but the headline “game is free” is not the same as “demo available”!
I’ve been thinking about making this thread for a few days. Sometimes, I play a game and it has some very basic features that are just not in every other game and I think to myself: Why is this not standard?! and I wanted to know what were yours....
This was going to be my point, the “quick save and quit” option, regardless of how the “normal” save system works. It’s fine if the game only wants you to create a save point you can reload from at certain locations, but a quick save that disappears when you reload it means you can put down the game immediately when the real world comes a-knocking.
There are too many articles posted in gaming communities which are actually just business articles which happen to be about companies involved in making games. Obviously it affects everything, but like you I don’t care about business bullshit!
It does seem like some people just automatically post it on every thread that mentions Microsoft. Just because we all dislike something doesn’t mean we want to see the same low-effort comments spammed every time they come up in discussion like we’re still on Reddit!
Would you normally replace a perfectly functional console with a smaller but otherwise identical machine? Do what you want with your own cash but that’s a very decadent purchase!
Completely trivial point, but a non-USAist I don’t think I’ll ever stop finding the phrase “the Holiday Season” weird. If you mean Christmas because you want people to buy it as a Christmas present, then just say Christmas! I guess it’s to be non-religious but I just find it funny to say “the holiday season” to mean winter when the season that everyone goes on holiday is summer.
That much makes sense, but when it’s companies releasing products they hope will be bought as Christmas presents then it’s just odd to hear them skirting round the word “Christmas”. Unless you guys buy each other PS5s for new year?
Yeah it makes sense, just sounds odd. Maybe it’s because here in Britain Christmas is kind of a thing for everyone almost entirely independent of religion. Cultural differences and all that.
I think it could also be cultural difference in the use of the word “holiday”. In Britain a holiday is what you’d call vacation, whereas our bank holidays are what you’d call public holidays. We don’t generally refer to Christmas and New Year as holidays, even though that’s when you take time off work, because you’re not “going on holiday”.
As I said in another reply, yeah it makes sense, just sounds odd. Maybe it’s because here in Britain Christmas is kind of a thing for everyone almost entirely independent of religion. Cultural differences and all that.
