RTR#29 Another boring update: Categories and bug fixes (kbin.social) angielski

Today, I wanted to introduce you to Categories - a new feature that is essentially a multi-mags view. A new tab will appear in the user panel where you can create categories (public or private) and then add magazines to them (local or remote). In the magazine listing, there will be another tab that will list public categories...

Collections are a game-changing feature, imo! Nice work to all involved.

It's a shame, but considering that Unity is deep in a hole of unprofitability coupled with high interest rates across the globe, I can't say it's surprising.

Plan A was to rip off all of their users and Plan B seems to be to downsize. I wonder if it'll be enough to right the ship...

The only mobile game that I ever really enjoyed was Game Dev Story by Kairosoft, and that was a long time ago.

I'm sure good ones exist, but most mobile games seem overly simple or boring, and they often have annoying or borderline predatory business models.

I don’t consider my gaming in terms of price/time because that just encourages buying games that suck away my time.

So true and well said.

I love playing a 70 hour From Software game or a 50 hour JRPG as much as the next guy. But some of my favorite games of all time are old classics like Super Mario World or Zelda: OoT, which can probably be completed in a single session or two if you know what you're doing. And there have been some truly great, but short, indie games over the years.

Then there are also sim games and arcade/fighting games that had great reliability and you can get many hours out of if you like them.

In the end, as long as the game is fun and satisfying, I don't care how long it lasts.

I'd venture a wild guess that the revenue split business model behind Unreal Engine, and the strategy around spending tons of money to bring people over to the Epic Games Store, are not sustainable. They probably have been generally subsidized by the huge amount of cash that Fortnite has brought in.

Maybe the Fortnite well has dried up? 2023 has been a strong year for news game releases, and it's possible that Fortnite has lost some of players' attention?

Hard to say, but it's looking like Unity are not the only ones struggling to keep their business afloat.

Not really, it's just kind of a weird name for the collection based on the fact that Apollo plays a relatively big role in the story of these three games.

Not that buying more stuff is ever the answer but... As someone who also spends way too much time at the same desk, getting a Steam Deck has totally revamped my love for gaming. Most of the time I'm not bringing it out with me (although I have traveled with it), but just being able to play PC games from bed, on the couch, or even outside in the back yard has been a ton of fun for me.

Honestly I think Nintendo are killing it in 2023. I loved TotK and Pikmin 4, and have high hopes for Mario Wonder and the SMRPG remake. Yeah the switch is aging out, but it's no big secret that a Switch 2 is deep in development and probably coming next year.

donuts,
@donuts@kbin.social avatar

Sure. I absolutely use my Steam Deck more than my Switch. But still, my favorite releases this year have been Nintendo games (although I hear good things about Balder's Gate 3).

As someone who has been stuck on Balteus for the last 2 days, I'm not sure AC6 is a good recommendation. It also doesn't really feel or play like ER.

donuts,
@donuts@kbin.social avatar

That's pretty crazy. One would think it's not hard to put your own game on Steam.

donuts,
@donuts@kbin.social avatar

Frankly, I'm offended by the comparison on Will Wright's behalf.

donuts,
@donuts@kbin.social avatar

Honestly I'm much more worried about bullshit fucking Xfinity bandwidth caps than drive space.

Next year's value proposition on PC parts is almost always better than this year's. (Except for NVidia for some reason.)

Save your money, buy a Steam Deck or a desktop PC, play games online with the internet service that you already pay a shit ton of money for, and don't look back. It's really stupid that we allowed game consoles to charge us to play online.

As someone who totally loves the Souls games (plus Bloodborne and Sekiro) but played Armored Core 2 on the PS2 way back in the day and thought it was just kind of OK, I'm not really sure what to think about AC6 right now. On one hand I don't really expect them to diverge from the essence of what AC is and should be (deep mecha customization and intricate combat), but on the other hand I feel like the type of game that AC2 was is something that I don't look back on super fondly.

Anyone else feel conflicted about whether to pick up AC6?

Damn. End of an era... Wa-hoo!

Hardware makers making the same mistakes over and over again...

I'll say it louder for the kids in the back, "DON'T BOTHER MAKING CUSTOM GAMING HARDWARE WITHOUT A CUSTOM GAMING OS".

Regardless of how you feel about Windows, it is not fit for purpose. It's the wrong tool for the job.

As long as they pay the actors fairly for use of their voice and/or likeness, it's fine. The problem right now is the exploitation of people's personality rights.

donuts,
@donuts@kbin.social avatar

If the voice actors get paid fairly for the use of their voice, and I mean fairly, then there really isn't much of an issue.
