Davel23,

There is a free tier which limits you to 1 hour playtime sessions and does not let you use RTX effects.

What adventure games do you recommend? angielski

pretty much the title. i have played most of sierra, lucasarts and telltale catalogues so if you are suggesting one of their games i’ve probably already played it. it doesn’t have to be a copycat, homage or in the same style as these companies’ games either, just that it must satisfy the vague definition of being an...

Davel23,

Legend Entertainment produced some great adventure games throughout the '90s. The wiki article has a list of them, and several are available from GOG.

Davel23,

The Titan Quest sequel is being done by a completely different team, no guarantee it captures the same magic as the original.

Dissapointed in Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller

Here is the story: I decided to buy a good and expensive controller for my PC for the first time, after 3 decades of using stock dualshocks and cheap knock-off brands. Googled “best controller for PC”, found a lot about elite series 2 controllers. Got excited about it (primarily the back-grip buttons and adjustable stick...

Davel23,

Unfortunately it says it does not support the Elite series 2.

Davel23,

That one does appear to be compatible with the Elite 2, but I don't think either model supports motion control on PC, just PS4/5 and Nintendo Switch.

Davel23,

Atari tried to do this in the '80s, but it never went anywhere.

Davel23,

I bought several Infocom games in their day, I think HHGTTG was the only one I ever finished.

Davel23,

Yup. As I recall it was kind of a school-wide effort, with kids relaying solutions of various puzzles to each other until we had enough to complete the game. I do recall working out the Babelfish puzzle on my own, though I also neglected to feed the dog at the beginning of the game soft-locking myself on at least one playthrough.

Davel23,

They probably pre-write the apologies.

They just have AI do it.

Davel23,

There's an old Infocom text adventure called Planetfall in which you have a comedy-relief sidekick in the form of a little robot named Floyd. Occasionally when you save the game Floyd will say "Oh boy, are we going to do something dangerous now?"

Davel23,

You are correct. By the TNG era site-to-site transport had become reliable enough that it could be used as needed, but having a pad at one end or the other (or both) of a transport was still safer. It was also more energy-efficient, though that's less of a concern.

Davel23,

The game is completely made with bought assets.

Davel23,

Maxis, Bullfrog, Westwood, Origin... basically any studio that EA bought and destroyed.

Davel23,

Valve is possibly the closest thing to a non-evil company in the world today.

Davel23,

It's my understanding that Gabe's son is being prepped to take over when the time comes. Hopefully he shares his father's values.

Davel23,

What exactly do they mean by "flagship"? The Escapist had Zero Punctuation and... that's about it. Aside from some Yahtzee Croshaw podcasts, I can't think of anything else worth watching on there.

Davel23,

There are several games in that series, most if not all of which are on GOG for cheap. I recommend Caesar III (don't bother with IV), Zeus, Pharoah and Cleopatra. They all follow the same basic formula and are a lot of fun.

John Riccitiello is stepping down as CEO and president of Unity (investors.unity.com) angielski

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Unity (NYSE: U) (the “Company”), the world’s leading platform for creating and growing real-time 3D (RT3D) content, today announced that John Riccitiello will retire as President, Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and a member of the Company’s Board of Directors, effective immediately....

Davel23,

No one's saying he needed it. But knowing how corporations work it's quite likely he got a nice payout.

Davel23,

They want people to buy the console release now, then buy it again when they announce the PC version in a year.

Davel23,

They did it with GTA 4 and 5 as well.

Davel23,

Probably true, but who's going to tell Disney's legal department?

Davel23,

Best of luck to you.

Davel23,

EGS? Wow, they might sell five copies there!

Davel23,

This kind of thing has been going on for at least 30 years. One of the earliest examples is Night Trap starring Dana Plato. You may not know who that is, but anyone who grew up watching Diff'rent Strokes certainly does. If you want a more mainstream example, look at Ripper from 1996 which features Christopher Walken, Paul Giamatti, Karen Allen, Burgess Meredith, David Patrick Kelly, Ossie Davis, and John Rhys-Davies.

It most likely uses Epic Online Services, so... yeah.

What games had easy soft locks that prevented you from either progressing or getting a true ending? angielski

The thought came to mind after reading a recent post about Baldurs Gate 3 here but it reminded me of the Japense only PSX game Mizzurna Falls where if you don’t perform a certain action early in the game you are prevented from getting a true ending. While this might not be a traditional soft lock because you can still progress...

I got bit by this one. Went over to a friend's house to spend the day playing HHGTTG. Several hours later we discovered we couldn't win the game because I had neglected to feed the dog 15 minutes in while he was up getting a drink or something.

Davel23,

I'm impressed your house has time to play games at all.

Davel23,

I'd recommend Sam and Max Hit the Road. It's older, and its sense of humor is a bit out there, but if you "get it" it's great.

Davel23, (edited )

Cool dudes had fastload cartridges.

Davel23,

They better have included the theme song.

Davel23,

I mean, I knew it from the moment the EA acquisition was announced.

Denuvo security is now on Switch, including new tech to block PC Switch emulation (www.videogameschronicle.com) angielski

The first of the tools Denuvo is offering to Switch developers is Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection, a “revolutionary technology to protect games launching on Nintendo Switch from piracy”....

Davel23,

Judgement came out on PC in September '22.

Davel23,

The thing I fucking hate is when the game doesn't make it obvious when a checkpoint is activated. Then you go to quit the game: "Everything since the last checkpoint will be lost". Well WHEN WAS THE LAST MOTHERFUCKING CHECKPOINT, ASSHOLE?

Davel23,

The Persona games, while all existing in the same universe and sharing many play mechanics are largely standalone. You can pick up and play any of them and not miss anything storywise by not playing the others. That said each subsequent game adds certain QoL features which, once gotten used to you'd be hard-pressed to play without. I've played 3, 4, and 5, in that order and I would recommend the same to anyone looking to get into the series.

The Yakuza series on the other hand all follow a set timeline, and though each game has its own plot they all exist in an evolving overall world. They should be played in order, at least 1-6. Zero is a prequel though it was made around the same time as 5. As such it has several references to future events which are not really spoilery, but without playing the other games you won't necessarily get them. But they are not vital to the plot and the game can be enjoyed first. That's what I did and never felt like I was missing out on anything. 7 is a new start for the series and while taking place in the same world and featuring guest stars from other games it is not closely tied to the other games in the series. Personally, 7 is my favorite of the bunch with Zero a close second.
