Monomate, w Japanese PC gaming saw another year of explosive growth

I expect the growing availability of portable PC gaming systems to further boost this growth. It’s known the japanese public is very biased towards portable gaming devices, which is why the Nintendo Switch dominates by market share.

I’ve started seeing the ROG Ally and, in bigger stores both it and the Steam Deck, in electronic stores over here recently.

HidingCat,

Think Valve only recently partnered with a distributor for East Asia, so the Steam Decks are slowly showing up in Japan and South Korea. Asus of course has a good distribution network, so generally where they're strong you'll see Allys. I still can't get a Steam Deck in a store, but can get an Ally (and probably the Legion Go).

Aurenkin,

Had my steam deck in Taiwan for quite a while but I don’t know if it’s on store shelves here.

I’ve seen them in Edion, an electronics chain, in Japan, and they seem to have a partnership of some kind with them - the first time you could do a hands-on anywhere in Japan was at an Edion in Osaka, and that’s where I’ve seen the physically on sale recently (as in, only in the last month or two). The only person I know with one ordered it online.

HidingCat,

Yea, think Komodo is working with Edion for in-store sales. Saw an announcement somewhere when I was reading about Steam Deck sales in Asia (which sadly, just three countries in East Asia).

Fuck EA. Also obligatory battlebit is better

I didn't watch the whole thing, just checked out the charts. It does not bode well for my 2080.

forgotaboutlaye,

Game still looks good on Low. I’m on a notebook 2080 and my fps is low but smooth

weirdo_from_space, w Spyro Reignited Trilogy sells 10 million units globally

Crash remake sold great too, but not the Crash 4. It feels like people ony really wanted to briefly relive the “good old days” and checked out after playing some of the N. Sane trilogy.

Considering the only okay remake of Spyro 3, I think they knew exactly where the limits of cashing in on nostalgia was.

BlinkAndItsGone, w Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct – 31/08/2023

This looks amazing. It’s time for psychedelic and dream imagery in video games to come back.

I didn’t think I needed more 2D Mario until I saw this. I basically skipped over the entire New Super Mario line and whilst I did fall in love with Mario Maker 2 I thought it was a phase I’d gone through.

Speaking of Mario Maker. I wonder how much inspiration the development team took from those games when coming up with Wonders more… experimental levels.

ninjan, w Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 - Extended Gameplay Trailer

Looks like the first time we’ll get to actually walk around in something that captures the grandness of the WH40K setting. Can’t wait! And do yourself a favor and revisit some gameplay videos of the first game, the evolution video games have gone through the last decade can’t be overstated.

Quatity_Control,

Slightly concerned over the amount of slow waddling between areas

Conyak, (edited ) w New World: Rise of the Angry Earth - Announcement Trailer

I honestly had no idea this game was still running. I thought it had died long ago. Not hating or anything. I’ve never played it. I just have not heard anything about it for a long time.

echoplex21, w Sea of Stars sold 100,000 copies on day one

Wow and that’s with it being released on Gamepass and PS+ I believe . Great to see such numbers for such a game where you can see the passion from the developers

regalia, w Armored Core VI peaks at 150K peak concurrent Steam players on day 1, making it the 4th biggest launch of 2023. It's also the second biggest From Software launch ever, second only to Elden Ring

I play almost every game genre, but mechs have always had zero interest to me personally

conciselyverbose, w Starfield is Bethesda's Least Buggiest Game to Date, Say Sources

I sincerely don't mind their balance between bugs and ambition, but all this shit has me terrified.

AlbertScoot, w AMD claims there’s nothing stopping Starfield from adding Nvidia DLSS

I mean, this has always been the case. This is a practice going back decades for video card manufacturers.

anteaters, w Homeworld 3: War Games – Gameplay Trailer

Multiplayer vs bots was so much fun back then in 1 and 2 it makes me really happy to see that they have an eye on that style of mp and skirmishing instead of only focusing on pvp or competitive. There are really few games that I’m looking forward to these days but HW3 is definitely in that category.

@kg333@sh.itjust.works avatar

This would be interesting if it utilized my existing Android library.

However, they appear to have learned nothing from Stadia: people are not going to “purchase” games they already own elsewhere on a platform that will disappear in two years.
