Nice. It’s a huge cock and balls

Zaktor, w “The models were right”: astronomers find ‘missing’ matter

That’s some hard long science right there.

TLDR: it’s the hot gas filaments between galaxies that they confirmed

Winged_Hussar, w Learning The Basics Of Astrophotography Editing
@Winged_Hussar@lemmy.world avatar

Always appreciate updated and current videos on the process, even if I can’t mimic on Linux.

Something that has always frustrated me about the editing process is that every program has its own unique features

Some you get wavlets

Some you get stacking and aligning

Some you get level adjustments and curves

All while most of the programs are deprecated and/or abandonware

I think currently I have Registax, Auto Stakkar, Siril, PiPP, and Gimp installed for processing just because some programs perform features better than others.

The polarisation of the broadband emission shows the flux density of two orthogonal polarisations is anti-correlated with temporally shifting spectral structure observed.

abcdqfr, w 1.5TB of James Webb Space Telescope data dumped on the internet — new searchable database is the largest window into our universe to date

Tangent, how would this telescope do turned around and pointed at our deepest oceans? There’s infinitely more alien life to actually find and study, and it’s still unstudied for good reasons I suppose I’m fishing for.

Dasus,
@Dasus@lemmy.world avatar

Wait… what?

We’ve got tons of oceanographic satellites. James Webb is extremely good at picking up light. The ocean is extremely dark.

Okay quacks, time to go data-mining for anomalies!

Geodad, w Starlink Satellites Are 'Leaking' Radio Emissions

They were designed by a capitalist. Why should this surprise anyone?

The object was to get a product to market as quickly and cheaply as possible.

Corners were cut and mistakes were made.

frunch,

Corners were cut and mistakes were made.

This is my assumption about nearly all modern tech. We’ve reached the point where it’s practically standard practice to release unfinished products and/or software. In many cases, it ends up being a particular person or small group of enthusiasts that end up finishing and polishing the product.

Not only that, but support for many tech products is shorter-term than ever. I was talking to a mechanic recently who was surprised to be informed by Alfa Romeo’s parts department, that they did not offer replacements for a particular part for the brake lines on a car that was less than 10 years old…and referred the mechanic to find a seller on eBay who makes them. There was indeed one company making the part and selling them on eBay. That was the aftermarket support, lol!

shifty, w Starlink Satellites Are 'Leaking' Radio Emissions

This is the planet wide equivalent of the microwave interfering with the wifi signal.

RedSnt, w Milky Way may not be destroyed in galactic smash-up after all

But don’t worry either way:

Phew!

no galactic smash-up is expected for billions of years, long after our ageing Sun will have burnt away all life on Earth.

sunzu2, w 'It's extremely worrisome.' NASA's James Webb Space Telescope faces potential 20% budget cut just 4 years after launch

We should sell to SpaceX for cheap since NASA can't do anything right!

Did not they do this with space lunch too lol

Gut it from the inside, then provide tech and talent to a corpo who then charges you for the services you knew how to do in house...

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

I have no idea why you got downvoted for pointing out the obvious scam. I guess the sarcasm didn’t translate well.

rayanalden, (edited )

But if NASA 'can’t do anything right,' how come SpaceX and other private companies like stylo rely so heavily on former NASA engineers, research, and infrastructure to even operate?

ExotiqueMatter, w Milky Way may not be destroyed in galactic smash-up after all
@ExotiqueMatter@lemmygrad.ml avatar

What do you mean after all? Wasn’t it the consensus since forever that there was basically 0 chance of anything actually colliding because galaxies are mostly empty space? I’m pretty sure I read about that when I was a child.
