I think the artstyle is ok in a vacuum. It does look bad if you look at it as a direct sequel of prison architect 1. As for paradox, it would be a new low for them if they managed to fuck up the performance for this game by releasing it early, the only problem I can really see are bugs and they usually aren’t gamebreaking (for the pdx games I’ve played at launch - c:s2 and vic3). I just hope it isn’t treated as a cash grab by the higher ups. As long as they don’t release it before it is ready the game will be fine, but we know paradox will crunch the developers to release early. I’m mainly just worried about the dlc.
Idk I think the new art style is good. They probably didn’t want it looking like Rimworld anymore and wanted to have 3D for the verticality that was lacking in the original.
It looks a lot like Prison Architect. What’s up with that?
Blame my (Tynan’s) lack of art skill - especially with characters. I made the character art you see in the trailer as a stopgap, and borrowed the Prison Architect style because I’m not a good enough artist to develop a new one. They were never intended to be final. With this Kickstarter, we’ll be able to get a real artist who can sit down and develop an original style for RimWorld.
I’ve talked with the original Prison Architect artist, Ryan Sumo, and he’s fully supportive of RimWorld. We didn’t share any art or code with the PA guys.
I got as far as the “ace mechanic” introducing herself. I’ve heard somewhere that the creators and directors behind anime, games, and other Japanese works that receive English dubs actually ask for this idiotic acting that isn’t even remotely like how real people actually speak, but I still hate it so much. That and the same 7 or so people doing the voice for every game and anime in existence. Somehow I’m wondering for the first time if it is the same in other language dubs. I don’t know any other language well enough to tell how realistic the voice work is. I generally play japanese games with japanese audio for this reason, but even that tends to be pretty different from how people speak after learning some degree of japanese. It makes me think back to how absolutely… ace phoenix/naruhodo and Maya/mayoi sounded in ace attorney vs Layton’s japanese audio only to become hammy even in japanese when they got their first voices in the main series. I actually learned japanese just because they said vs Layton and great ace attorney wouldn’t get English versions. They did in the end though…
Anyway hopefully the game will be good. I liked toriyama in the early days but after DBZ everything just felt like a DBZ reskin. Probably because of how long it went and having so many characters. When I played dqb2 with some friends we were calling all the characters by the names of similar looking past toriyama characters. Blue Arale, Hercule/Mr satan 2, etc.
I realise this is strange to comment on a 2 hour video but Noah is at his best when he keeps the scope of his video narrow and (moderately) focused like this.
I feel like the CIA guy the government wants for “just one more job” in the movies. Well fuck, I guess it’s time to lace up my skates and pop the fatcaps on the cans…
Streets of Rage looks awesome. I’m also excited about Golden Axe. I spent so many hours playing that on Sega Genesis. I hope the remake turns out good.
