What’s a good game for soccer (football for non Americans don’t jump down my throat please) these days? I mostly play the PS2 madden games when I need my sports game fix, and there are plenty of mods to bring those up to date
the answer is, Fifa (now ea sports fc). there’s a reason that it’s the only game in town when it comes to the most popular sport on the planet. For all it’s many many faults around ethics, it’s far and away the “best”
I found Cal Kestis to be the most generic sounding and looking Star wars character. The games are fun but I found myself uninterested in him as a character
I agree with you, he’s kind of a blank slate.
I think that works for a video game though.
It’s also refreshingly NOT the chosen one or blood line thing that’s a bit overdone in Star Wars.
(Crossing my fingers he’s not secretly a long lost Skywalker, Palpatine or Kenobi relative)
Many stories introduce the protagonist in their prime, or when they’re at their most interesting, then eventually release an origin story.
The first game felt like an origin story for a dude I didn’t know. (Haven’t played the second game yet)
My guess (hope) is he’ll feel more interesting as he gets more exposure and character development as games come out and we kinda get to see him grow as we play.
Yeah I get what you're saying about him being a blank slate. I guess I'm just tired of generic white dudes as being the definition of blank slate. I hope he does get more interesting, I found the other characters far more fun to follow than Cal
Yea for sure, he could have been a blank slate without being as bland or generic. By that I absolutely don’t mean to imply the actor is any of these things, but that they played it safe in character design.
Expecially in a universe of endless aliens.
It’s not even a choice that has to be limited between our own human heritages.
First and foremost, if Itsuno-san doesn’t have time to be the director of the game, it can’t really get made. So having an opportunity to have him spend the time he needed on the game and being able to bring together the other resources needed, such as a large team to work on a game with this scope, just took some years for that all to really fit together. And then once it did, we got started.
Aside from Square, MS seem to have a good relationship with most Japanese publishers at the moment. Bamco, Capcom, Konami and Sega all support the format with Sega seemingly all in on Gamepass (the Yakuza franchise has been a mainstay on there since I signed up four odd years ago). Capcom just put a game on GP day one.
Well they’re a little late at least. All the good games worth getting on the Switch are already out, and it’ll be about a year until Switch 2 will probably be out.
Farcry is one of my favorite series, and like so many ubisoft titles, they ruined it.
Leveled gear and enemies can fuck right off.
At least they spent time and fixed most of the issues with breakpoint.
I made the mistake of preordering 6, played for a couple hours, and never touched it again.
Still go back and play 2, 3, Primal, and 5 about once a year and have a wonderful time.
I’d love to see another good farcry, as well as ghost recon and splinter cell. Going to wait to see the reviews and understand the game mechanics before ever buying another ubisoft product.
Ive had more issues on this game than not having the right haircut… ive had scenes turn black mid dialogue, clipping through walls, weird camera angles that force my character to T-pose… the list goes on. The game is great as long as it doesnt get bugged out
They sound minor, they look hilarious, but then your smile fades as whatever is causing the bug blocks input to try and get past it, forcing a reload. I’m LOVING this game, but out of the 20 or so hours I’ve been able to sink into it since launch, a solid 2-3 of those hours have been retracing steps or generally trying to circumvent big bugs.
(Full disclosure: I am playing exclusively on the Steam Deck which I am 99.9% certain is the reason for all of the bugs I face)
That’s so strange, I am 40 hrs in and can’t remember any bugs.
The only annoying thing is the camera that sometimes doesn’t show the layer I want so see and it’s sometimes hard to navigate, but I wouldn’t count that as a bug. Also characters in my party walking over hazardous areas when following the main char is so fucking annoying. I’m like 99% sure they didn’t do that in divinity original sin 2
Yeah im also about 40 hours in and ive had at least 4 or 5 force quits where ive lost about an hour of time. Ive had bugs right from the beginning. In the cutscene where you leave the ship, ive had 2 friends say their screen either just flickered or their screen froze on screen for minutes. It was funny because they were playing naked and the screen froze on their butt for a solid 2 minutes. This is only within the first 1 hour. Ive had maybe 20 or 30 occurances where the screen freezes and I have to either wait for the game to unfreeze or it goes to that force quit i mentioned earlier.
I know the teams are different but i just thought its weird that its not talked about. It cant be just my group of friends that has these issues.
Ive had more issues on this game than not having the right haircut…
Sure, but it’s not like the team responsible for fixing those bugs is likely to be the same team working on character creation. Any time any studio announces something like this, people suddenly act like division of labor isn’t a thing. If you’re running a store and new inventory needs to get unloaded off the truck, you wouldn’t shut down the checkouts and send your cashiers who don’t drive forklifts to go do it.
Openness is great, but there’s no financial reason to make specialized hardware to operate an open platform.
Historically, consoles have been sold near cost, and profits have been made on game sales after the fact. If you can just buy your games from Steam on console, the price of the console will go up. At some point, it no longer makes sense to buy the specialized hardware.
But we’ll get to see how that goes! It’s looking more and more like the next Xbox is going to run Windows.
We’re already seeing some of that with things like the ROG Ally. There are also specialized emulator platforms that can play cartridges from multiple consoles.
Seems like that is Microsoft’S new strategy, pivot to PC where their storefront is just one of several options for buying games. Their super premium console they are teasing is probably just a Windows computer. Unclear what will happen with older Xbox purchases/if back compatibility will continue to be a concern. Might end up being the sacrificial lamb to our open future.
I’m really hoping all my existing purchases can be played via PC one day. If “everything” is indeed becoming an xbox, then I’m hoping this becomes a reality. I’m disappointed they’re moving away from their traditional consoles, though. It feels like the end of something special.
I hate games journalists. I’m sure there are some good ones but most of them are corporate trash and their reviews are thinly veiled ads. They dont care about the games they write about. They dont take the time to learn the games and are just generally bad at games. Basically the entire industry is just shitting out the most dogshit video game opinions 24/7. I’d rather go to Lemmy or Reddit and read what actual players have to say about games.
Games “journalists” have always been awful at their job and the entire industry is so incredibly fucky with nerds power tripping on the tiniest modicum of power they’ve been given.
Personally haven’t really read gaming journalism even before. If I want to see what score a game has, I’m much more likely to check How Long To Beat or Backloggd, where users rate games.
Or, as has been mentioned in this thread, Youtubers, if I want a singular subjective opinion as opposed to a “out of 5” or “out of 10” score which, admittedly can be tricky when different people have a different view on what each number should mean. For instance, a 5 (on a 10 scale), is average for me when I rate anime. But most of the anime community uses 7 as the average, so a 6.2 show on MyAnimeList, which you would think is above average, is actually below.
