Xanvial, do games w Microsoft’s CEO say it’s ‘doubling down’ on being a game producer and publisher | VGC

By publishing to PS5?

Chozo, do games w CD Projekt appears to hint at more Cyberpunk content from Edgerunners studio Trigger

This is promising! I'm glad to see that the expansion has revitalized the love for Cyberpunk. I really hope they keep expanding on this franchise, Night City is just too good of an environment to not have those amazing stories put into the spotlight.

Restaldt, do gaming w Cancelled Hyenas was ‘Sega’s biggest budget game ever’, it’s claimed | VGC

Lol.

Fuck Creative assembly and their $30 dlc

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

What $30 DLC?

HuntressHimbo,
@HuntressHimbo@lemm.ee avatar

Just before Hyenas was cancelled they jacked up the price of DLC for the final game in the very popular total war warhammer franchise with less content. The allocation of resources to Hyenas is also taken as part of the reason the third installment in TWW was so buggy

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

Gotcha. On its face, $30 expansion content for a strategy game is pretty common though. A friend of mine also pointed out that they probably ought to have been funneling those resources toward Yakuza/Like a Dragon also, since that series has been a workhorse for them lately. Personally, their inability to keep those games at a constant level of production value is one of a few deterrents for me to dive into the series.

MikeT, do games w Remedy says its Max Payne remakes are ‘a big, big project’ | VGC

Don’t know how to feel about this one.

I would prefer Remedy expand their own IP and encourage people into thinking about Alex Casey instead.

They don’t own Max Payne, Rockstar does. They should buy it back instead of reworking this.

CharlesReed, do games w Remedy says its Max Payne remakes are ‘a big, big project’ | VGC

I wonder if they'll bring James McCaffrey back since he and Remedy have been working together for almost every game Remedy's made (the only one I can think of that he wasn't in is Quantum Break). McCaffrey's voice is so iconic as Max imo, it's hard for me to imagine anyone else doing it.

0000000nowhere,

No way they’d ever replace him, especially after the way the way the community reacted when Rockstar tried doing it

processed_dna, do games w Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition is reportedly coming to PC

Really enjoyed this on PS5, but can’t wait to sink my teeth into it on PC with KB&M aiming. Same as the first game, I really enjoyed it again on PC.

Thassodar,

Play it on PC with a PS5 or Xbox controller. That’s what I did.

kadu,
@kadu@lemmy.world avatar

But… they’ve just talked about how they’re excited to play with keyboard and mouse…

Thassodar,

I misread it. My bad.

Crayphish, do games w EA’s CEO teases ‘very exciting’ projects in development at Respawn

Andrew Wilson and my personal definition of ‘very exciting’ likely differ greatly, so I’m not going to pay attention to anything until we see the products. I suspect he is very excited to make a lot of money on a bunch of new Star Wars games.

sculd, do gaming w Tencent is bringing back military FPS series Delta Force | VGC

It will be nothing like the old one…

llii, do games w A new fan-made port of Wipeout can be played in a web browser

I whish games would recognize that some lanugages keyboards have the Y and Z keys swapped.

MomoTimeToDie,

I wish some languages would realize their keyboards are wrong

sugar_in_your_tea,

Or that some people use non-“standard” layouts like Dvorak and Colemak. It’s not hard to just use the key code instead of relying on the key label.

kippinitreal, do games w A new fan-made port of Wipeout can be played in a web browser

What the tech for running it in browser? WebAssembly? On mobile so couldn’t inspect the website . (Also kinda lazy)

NikkiNikkiNikki,
@NikkiNikkiNikki@kbin.social avatar

If it is in rust, then probably yes

sznio,

It’s good old C.

simple,

It is indeed Wasm, it’s become the standard for games on the browser unless the game is made in javascript (which would run poorly)

ME5SENGER_24, do games w Ubisoft has a new Far Cry IP boss

I like these games. I do. But at the same time I don’t. They’re repetitive in the gameplay and it gets stale to the point where I never finish them.

Along with the Assassins Creed series, they have sucked me in and don’t deliver enough to maintain my business, yet a couple of months after a release when I see them go on sale the end up in my collection.

I’m hoping this news will end in an awesome game that I’m obviously going to buy and that I will actually finish, for once

coffinwood,

Agree. I’m playing Far Cry 6 and somehow got the feeling it’s even slightly worse (more stupid) than the 5th entry.

The map is filled to the brim with NPCs and animals, yet I’ve rarely witnessed such a dead world. Not a single NPC has a purpose or life. Cars outside the render distance disappear from the game too: turn around and that vehicle is gone like in those 1980’s video games. Turn around again: new NPC.

Finished a checkpoint / road block: your car is gone Baddies reappear in enemy areas although I just cleared it out. Such a lack of persistence is almost an offense.

Not one car that doesn’t sound their horn at me because they think I’m trying to ram them off the road. Arcade games from decades ago were less dumb.

Nfntordr,

Ubi really need to scale down the size of these games and adopt a quality over quantity mindset. I’ve played multiple Ubi IPs and they’re the fucking same at its core.

Guitar, do games w Atari has acquired five Ubisoft games, including Child of Eden and Grow Home, and will re-release and ‘evolve’ them | VGC

I will say I am glad to see that the current Atari CEO is actually trying to do stuff with the brand again. It seemed like it was really dead for a long time. But it’s refreshing to see Atari celebrate it’s long and bumpy history. As well as trying to do new things in the modern gaming environment. I hope they can find some real success. It would be neat to see Atari actually become a big player again.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

As a cautionary tale, I said the same things about Embracer acquiring unused properties and underutilized studios in an attempt to revive more niche series for underserved segments of the market.

Guitar,

Fair enough, but it’s really just a hope. I certainly don’t have confidence that it won’t turn to shit. But the gaming landscape could use some shakeup with some new/old players.

Call_Me_Maple,
@Call_Me_Maple@lemmy.world avatar

I was going to say the same thing. I noticed it with the new Busby game, I hope they find a lot of success are are able to bring that retro game design back to the forefront.

FuckFascism, do games w Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot summoned to appear before French court in relation to harassment trial

Always did hate Ubisoft after they ruined Assassin’s Creed and raped their own games with micro transactions. Now I have another reason, cool.

network_switch, do games w Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot summoned to appear before French court in relation to harassment trial

It blew my mind how quick video games media moves on from abuse scandals. Like the major video media orgs are staffed to the brim with leftist, hyper Twitter finger social justice types but they didn’t lay down continuous pressure on Ubisoft, Quantic Dream, Activision Blizzard. It was report then back to cordial relationship with these companies where pretty much no one faced punishment. At the very least constantly work to destroy their public images until they resign and divest

SkunkWorkz,

It’s not just the media companies even the studios are full of leftists/progressives. Like Blizzard should have a fucking hard time to find workers. But nope. The blue hairs still line up to apply or never left. Remember the loudest progressives are just virtue signaling. And they just appropriated punk esthetics but never embraced the punk ethos.

BackgrndNoize,

Seems to be a consistent pattern across all types of media, I mean look at all the allegations against people in Hollywood, that came out during the me to movement, and still Roman Polanski gets a standing ovation, more and more it feels to me that most people don’t give a shit about anything other than their self interest in this world.

TheBat, do games w ‘They stole my face’: Streamer claims The First Descendant ads used AI to make it look like he’s promoting it
@TheBat@lemmy.world avatar

Why’s he posting this on the net? Take it to a law firm.

ExLisper,

Why not both?

TheBat,
@TheBat@lemmy.world avatar

Wouldn’t publicly disclosing such information harm his case?

ExLisper,

I don’t see how.

starchylemming,

i dont know the exact quote but: never keep a perfectly fine crisis unused

a streamer has much more to gain from the drama around it than the case itself

it would be unwise to not tap into this source of sympathy (new viewers)

Deathray5,
@Deathray5@lemmynsfw.com avatar

Theoretically you’re not supposed to take about a case because you could mispeak and it could be used against you. In a simple string case it’s not really a threat

p03locke,
@p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

There’s a reason you don’t do both.
