As weird as this sounds, the screenshots make me want to play the original FF7.

I tried it back in the day, but my frame of reference was FO1/2, Might and Magic, etc., so the general JRPG style seemed off.

I am willing to give it another go 25+ years later. There are also seem to be aot of good mods for FF7.

vateso5074, (edited )

There are a few asset upscaler projects that might be worth looking into, but also be careful which version of the game you play, as not all mods support the same versions.

There is the PC 1998 port. Being from a time before controller support on PC was a thing, you’ll have to really try to weasel in controller support somehow if you want it. Some parts of the PlayStation release (glitches and spelling mistakes) are fixed, but it introduces many bugs of its own. Character models have mouths. Supports mods, but a lot of the go-tos may be pretty old and harder to find at this point, and you’ll really need a lot of QoL mods to make the experience workable.

There is the PC 2012 port, which is a (lightly) remastered version of the 1998 port. Character models still have mouths. Contains further localization changes from the 1998 port. It runs far better on modern systems than the 1998 port, adds some (not great not terrible) controller support, and some of the features from popular QOL mods that people used to add to the 1998 version are baked in. This is the version that is currently sold on Steam. Also supports mods.

Then there is the 2015 mobile/console port, which is further adapted from the 2012 PC port. Character models have mouths removed to be closer to the PS1 style. Introduces achievements, better native controller support (still far from perfect), and slightly better support for larger resolution displays. This is the version you can buy on the Xbox Store for PC. Basically no mod support because Xbox App games are very locked down, but it includes the “boost” (cheat) features that Square Enix has included in other Final Fantasy ports (toggles to speed up time, characters do max damage, no encounters) which some may hate the inclusion of, but do make it easier to just play the game for the story if you’re looking for zero grind.

Cheers. I am actually looking for a KB+M experience for Final Fantasy 7, I know, a bit strange.

The 2012 PC version seems like the best bet. That being said, I have a modding guide bookmarked that seemed very comprehensive, need to just go for it.

vateso5074,

Not strange at all, it’s not as though it’s a particularly action-y game.

If someone wanted to play FF7 Remake/Rebirth on M&K, I might have a few more questions, but speaking as someone who still plays a lot of FPS games with controller, you’ll never hear me tell someone that their preferred style is wrong.

nnullzz,

It’s actually 60% ($4.79) right on Steam. Snatching this up today!

I’m not big on any sort of full fledged ATB, which is the reason i play the remake over the original. But from what i’ve seen the original is still highly praised and worth going back too. I’d agree and sat give it a go, worst that can happen is you try it and go “Nope, i don’t think this is for me”.

Fuck India does trains so well. I hate living in a primitive underdeveloped shit hole country where we don’t have that technology.

kirk781,

Not really. The speeds of trains is still a major constriction and Indian Railways is a major laggard vis a vis say, China. Sure, some aspects are advancing (electrification for one, 90%+ tracks are electrified) but high speed rail is still in it’s infancy (still under construction with help from Japan).

primrosepathspeedrun,

I live in the united States there are hundreds of miles wide squares that simply do not have any trains here.

Amtrak recently de-electrified some segments of track.

Beautifully put, Meter Gauge (MG), once a backbone of India’s rail network, now echoes through a handful of heritage lines. While most MG locomotives ran on diesel, a rare few—like the one you’re referencing—stood out as exceptions, possibly Official Login Page steam or early electrics. These survivors aren’t just machines; they’re living fragments of railway history, quietly resisting obsolescence.

Could be the sun with the yellow/reddish light we get at dawn (or dusk), shining onto the condensation trails of an airplane. And it looks a bit like two trails, like we’d expect from an airplane with 2 turbines/wings.

True, I think I’ve played more Mass effect on my PS5 than PS5 games. I assume it is leading faster at least… not a good investment. I should have stuck with my PS4 Pro.

just build the most mundane things with our creativity. It always felt so amazing even when the builds were so poor in quality.

I feel this. Nowadays I don’t enjoy building anymore, because I have too high a standard for block palettes and shapes and where things should go and stuff like that. No more square houses built entirely out of diamond blocks and obsidian. No more random japanese pagodas in the middle of my base. No more bulbasaur pixel art. Now it’s way more stressful and less fun I guess. And I even if I can have fun building a single base, I never have the motivation to build anything beyond that, because there’s just too much effort, motivation, and planning required.

I remember one day watching a small youtuber, who I can’t remember right now unfortunately, building a river that passed through a giant rainbow out of wool smack dab in the middle of their base. They talked about how they intentionally stopped trying to build pretty and logical things and just decided to have fun. It was really inspiring and nostalgic to see. So I do that too when I play now, and honestly, it’s actually harder than building “good” looking things. But it’s fun.

Konami felt it had become overly westernized

Bitch you the ones that took the IP away from Team Silent and gave it to western devs who had no clue what to do with it.
Now they smell there’s money to be made and are cashing in.
And they are cashing in hard. I will never buy a $80 game.

Lets not act like Team Silent knew what to do with the franchise. Silent Hill 3 wasn’t as well received and Silent Hill 4 killed the franchise.

I think it’s a combination of the graphics and just the limitations it forces on you. It really forces you to think outside the box for builds, at least in my opinion. I’m sure there’s people far more qualified though to figure out what it is

Cookie Cutter

I heard ages ago that the animation was something special and then saw it was dirt cheap on sale and grabbed it a while after that but was just never in the mood to start something that looked so frantic. Finally actually started playing it a couple days ago.

For starters, the main character’s animation work really is something special. The snappy movement, the expressive face, the terrible posture, the confrontationally ever-visible underwear.

Everything other than the visuals seems so undercooked, though. The setting is high concept but the plot is a basic “get revenge and save the girl” type deal. It’s one big map like a Metroid game but the levels are as straightforward as a level-based licensed platformer. The combat is trying to be spectacle-fightery but there is absolutely zero complexity to it. And I was just playing it last night and have already completely forgotten the music sounds like aside from, like, there’s electric guitar.

I’ll stick with it longer in hopes that the game around this extremely likable main character develops into something beyond baseline technical competence. I’ve simply never played a game that is so lovingly and expertly made in one specific regard that phones literally everything else in as hard as this seems to so far.

I’m also getting into Death Stranding 2 but it feels like there’s nothing to say about it. First game again but more of it. Weird to see Kojima making so conservative a sequel. Like with Cookie Cutter, I’m really hoping for more from this as I progress. Not to say that they’re equivalently disappointing.

Yes, even now majority of trains require two technical halts in that sector for attachment and detachment of bankers respectively.
