Jumi, do games w Is overwatch 2 really that bad?

I got hooked by the gameplay so even though I’m disgusted by the monetisation I come back almost every day.

morbidcactus, do games w Why Do People Still Play Destiny 2?

My partner and I gave up destiny before witchqueen dropped, played pretty consistently since house of wolves with a pause just before forsaken until shadow keep. Absolutely loved the core mechanics and the PvP is some of my favourite, but it just felt so stale, barely any new maps, sunsetting old ones, lack of committing to ideas (4v4 was actually solid, some of the maps do not play well in 6s, 3s are fine though), rotating gamemode playlists like d1 had (for 6s I find control annoying after a while, 3s I liked relic in d1, mix in elimination and I’d be good)

It’s a shame because as I said, core mechanics rock, slug shorties and hand cannons feel amazing, and fusion rifles are legitimately awesome as well. I have really solid memories of doing stupid things with stuff like the Le Monarque and No Land Beyond. Wasn’t a huge fan of some metas but had some fun times with the games.

Now that I’ve discovered emulators are now allowed on iOS, I’m playing through the original PS version of Chrono Cross.

The ability to use save states and jump back into a session within seconds is HUGE for me. No vendor logos, no waiting for save points. Just instant save and recall.

I started Planet Crafter and I’m hooked. It’s a low budget yet brilliant Subnautica like game with a higher emphasis on crafting.

I’ve been playing Tyranny as well. It’s a nice CRPG with factions in a bleak setting. A little obtuse with the consequences of dialog options. Still refreshing. I really could use the tank character in my party composition, but he’s such an insufferable square I’d rather not use him.

redlightdistrict,

Tyranny was so much fun when it came out. I played the blue/shield side and I do agree at times he was too rigid for my taste.

I sided with the rebels and Barik became this massive frustrated Northerner supremacist, despising Tiersmen every chance he had and urging me to let the Disfavored civilize them. Fuck that.

These are more like last 2 week but anyways:

  • Finished Agent A after a year of hiatus.
  • Got hdr to work in Dark Souls 2 with the graphics overhaul mod and finished getting the 4 big Souls.
  • Got tired of the difficulty of Dark Souls 2 and decided to start a new random shooter from my library… Devil Daggers
  • Had a management sim itch and gave another shot at FTL, never got to win. Half the time I lost in a single encounter to things like never landing a shot on the enemy ship due to shields + misses or 7 people teleporting to my ship and wrecking havok. Other times I got too greedy.
  • Tried to figure out which way to go next in Dark Solus 2 by checking the wiki but kept getting sidetracked by things I might’ve missed.
  • Also tried to quench the management itch with shapez, but didn’t like it much. Just made me crave the factorio dlc more. Amazing music though

Don’t even try completing an FTL run at normal though. Easy is where the fun’s at.

A little bit of The Binding of Isaac, and Gran Turismo 5.

A lot of Elden Ring (I’m late to the party).

hal_5700X, do games w Are we ever going to see a remake of any Bethesda game?

No, because they got modders to do what for them.

What about Anthem?

yamanii,
@yamanii@lemmy.world avatar

Anthem kept the servers going longer, it got some updates and EA even promised an entire rework akin to No Man’s Sky, but EA being EA they never delivered it and just cancelled everything lol.

DoucheBagMcSwag,

TLDR; EA executives did not see the monetization return (microtransactions) of investing additional funds into Anthem via a free update.

yamanii,
@yamanii@lemmy.world avatar

Neither did Hello games when they continued to work on NMS, it didn’t have any monetization beyond buying the game, but they still did it in the end and it paid off.

DoucheBagMcSwag,

Well…that’s the difference with literally anyone else and fuckin EA

Played through hifi rush recently. I can’t think of a game that’s done anything like it, I cannot recommend it enough. Was truely one of the best games I’ve ever played

Amnesia: the Bunker. A masterpiece in horror and very tense. It is my personal GOTY for 2023

Katana314,

Or, The Bunkererer: Also called “Conscript”, another survival horror game about World War 1.

CharlesReed,

Man, I played this a couple months ago, and it is indeed tense. I had the same feeling playing this as I did Alien: Isolation. I was crawling on the ground most of the time, and I like that with every playthough the items are randomized. It's a solid entry to the entire Amnesia series (and better than Rebirth imo)

deranger, do games w Spooky Games

Still Wakes the Deep. Shit goes wrong on a Scottish oil rig in the 70s, it’s sorta like dead space mixed with alien isolation and a walking simulator. Stealth gameplay with some puzzles and a decent emotional narrative. I had a good time playing it and it’s on gamepass. Short and sweet.

I prefer psychological horror over jumpscares by a long shot, so my recommendations are a bit slower than what people may recommend, but if it strikes your and your wife’s fancy, here are them:
Dreaming Sarah, Wishing Sarah, Tanglewood, Parasite Eve, Wake Up (by Philosophic Games), UNLOVED, The Corruption Within.
