Yeah… As much as I love the Doom franchise I cannot in good conscience support anything that Marty Stratton has a hand in. That douchebag screwed over Mick Gordon (the guy that did the banger soundtracks for Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal) big time.
I mean just reading this detailed account of everything that happened makes my bile rise every time.
Don’t forget the Xash3D engine for GoldSrc games (e.g. Half-Life and mods). It runs on everything from a PSP to a PC. And it’s faithful. It relies on the original assets.
I hate it because it’s like they’re trying their hardest to make a shitty storefront.

I get almost none of the information I need when on a game’s store page. Meanwhile, I get all the info I need and then some on the same game’s Steam page.
It’s like they don’t want to sell their product.
I do definitely appreciate the weekly free games. Sometimes, like this week, they have solid offerings. It’s Dead Island 2 this week, btw.
Because in 2025 people get info about games they are buying from the app store instead of twitch or YouTube or the game devs website. Give me a fucking break dude.
The only way I know anything about the games I buy is by reading the store page. If I have to go looking for the dev’s website, it’s because something has gone wrong.
When I’m browsing, it’s my first stop. I want to see the minimum specs to estimate how well it’ll run, how the devs market their game at a glance, year of release, rating, etc. Then if it looks interesting it’s time for external reviews.
Throw Manic Miners on there. It’s a fan remake of the old Lego Rock Raiders game, and it’s really fun. There’s a custom level builder and I think there’s a browser you can search for other custom levels.
At least they added the rematch feature at the end of a battle. I often find myself stuck on a particularly hard fight for many attempts till I get it right.
Even a SATA SSD is gonna cut that down almost as much as an MVMe! I have both types in my machines and basically… as long as it’s not a hard drive hahaha
Decent speed storage and hardware to match, remove all splash screen bullshit and loading vids etc, kill any other pre menu misc they might have, and yeah … ???
