Bad move GOG, you’re as of right now still inferior to steam & you want to enshitify your platform ?

  1. Port your GOG-Galaxy launcher to Linux (it has to be native)
  2. fund Wine
  3. Accomodate for more local payment systems
  4. Have more currencies
  5. Would be nice if you made your launchers (or at least the core-functionalities OpenSource)

I was seriously just finally starting to become interested in using them a lot more for gaming since I got some success getting it to work on my Linux install. This would make me do a full 180 though…

Didn’t know about Citron stuff. Time to remove it from my Steamdeck…

Oh gosh, thank you!

Now I’ll repeat what I do whenever I post these:

I solemnly swear it will be a full week before the next of these posts

(…maybe it’ll be sooner!)

I feel like I need to have your account on RSS or something. Your posts are bigger and more interesting than most of my other RSS feeds lol.

I have a miyoo mini plus btw. Great little device.

PerfectDark,
@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

The great disappointment of the Miyoo family has been the Flips! Even the new V2 version looks to be a bit of a mess, though as always with these - YMMV!

I adore my Miyoo, every time I look at alternatives I just can’t bring myself to replace it!

mesamunefire,

I’m planning on getting a flip v2 in August. I’m really hoping it will be better than what some say.

I want more ports! Stardew on a small console like that is a dream.

Although the work the devs (and a tiny bit myself) have put into onion os makes the MMP and MM so good to play. And 3d printed handles make the MMP easier in my hands!

One news item I’ve noticed making waves in the indie genres I frequent was the announcement that Chucklefish Games’ Witchbrook will get a release in winter 2025

This was surprising because there hasn’t been much news for a few years, and the announcement was dropped during a Nintendo Direct of all places.

deus,

I fully expected this game to be dead so that announcement was a welcome surprise.

You can't go wrong with supergiant. Their music and games are awesome. Hades 2 works great on the SD.

wcSyndrome,

Love to see the transistor rec in 2025

GOG is fucked. As soon as services like this start talking about subscriptions, it’s already over.

DigDoug, do games w GOG seems to be considering paid membership option

I like what GOG do, but gating features, even niche ones, behind a subscription sounds like the first step towards enshittification.

Also, I’m sure as hell not giving them extra money until they fix their platform on Linux/Steam Deck.

I just wanna be able to filter games by what goodies they have, man. I want my waw paypaws.

How about GOG Galaxy on Linux?

robolemmy, do games w Horse archers ruin every game they are in.
@robolemmy@lemmy.world avatar

The horse archers in civ 6 are so pathetically lame that the only reason to build even one is to get 3 points toward a golden age. The computer builds swarms of them, of course, but anything can kill them, even a recon unit.

drunkpostdisaster,

I am mostly talking about bannerlord and total war.

Knuschberkeks,

In Rome Total War they are really nicely balanced imho.

drunkpostdisaster,

Less about balance and more about them being fun to play against

Zahille7,

Would balancing not make them fun to play against?

drunkpostdisaster,

Not really. They still take a lot of time to deal with.

DragonTypeWyvern,

They’re pretty easy to counter in Rome 2, you just need to remember it’s necessary and not all-in on heavy infantry. Infantry skirmishers clap them right back to the steppes and there are good auxiliary cavalry options from the start available in Italy.

I definitely remember being frustrated when I first played it trying to chase them around with legionaries but the correct answer is don’t do that then.

Kusimulkku,

Wasn’t it so that you could wreck them with foot archers? Even if they can’t fire further (don’t remember if that was the case) having foot archer vs horse archer shootout was always really costly exchange for the horsey bois.

ShinkanTrain,

You can have a giant swarm of them though, it’s fun

I guess they wanted a change after Keshiks and Camel Archers being completely busted in Civ V.

Walk_blesseD,

And in Civ VII Keshigs are once again completely cracked.

daggermoon, do gaming w Actually my first walking simulator - The Town of Light (2016) review

I got this game for free on GOG. I’m more stoked to play it now. It sounds both depressing and thought-provoking. That’s my bread and butter where games are concerned. Love your review.

Legendsofanus,
@Legendsofanus@lemmy.ml avatar

I got it for free too! It’s my first Prime-giveaway and the first game on GOG I have ever finished. I really wanted to try the Bioshock-inspired Close to the Sun but that game was just too heavy for my system

  • a tool for backing up offline installers

This really should be something they offer for free, and there are already some FOSS options that do this, although they aren’t as good as I’d like.

  • ability to install previous versions of a game

This is a feature they already have for free and there would (or at least should) be backlash if they were to lock that behind a subscription

  • extra insight into the preservation work they’re doing.

Sure, neat.

  • voting rights on games to bring into the preservation program.

Sure but said votes better have an actual impact.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

The previous versions of a game thing is something they took away, IIRC. They only keep the latest version and a patch to get up to it available for download, and you can only roll back to previous versions that you had already installed over time, or something like that. This is them seeing if you want to pay money to get a feature back that they used to offer, which is kinda lousy.

TinyShonk,

When did they take it away?

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not sure, but years ago, at least. Likely to save on server hosting fees. If you go to download the installer now, you only see the latest version, but you used to see every version.

TinyShonk,

Oh, I thought you could still download older versions under download offline installer
