Yeah it took me ages to just stop with the mmo grind mindset. Do a bit of story when you feel like and just exist in a weird world. I’m at something like 1000 hours if I remember right and still haven’t gotten to the latest stuff
Yeah I was annoyed when I found out I had to do the raids, but once I got started with them I had fun. Now that I’ve gotten past the parts where they’re slightly crucial for the story I see why they make you do it too.
Oh yeah it’s a slog, the great divider that everyone has to overcome. They need to do another pass on reducing the amount of stuff and one of the problems is that buried in the trivial ARR stuff is some important information for later. It’s sadly in a state of “just wait, it gets good after the first season”.
This, when I was last doing the story in FFXIV I had a few dungeons that were like that, nobody seems to understand that I enjoy working out the mechanics through pain and doubt a lot, perpetual 170 ping from playing on na servers helps with the suffering too.
I’ve been idly considering jumping back in, I was more or less up to date in late 2020 but there’s been what, 2 expacs since I last played, getting the gryphon mount was fun.

Let’s see… FFXIV, I was going to carry on with endwalker but ended up levelling crafters instead. Foxhole, a new war started so I was doing naval landings with my regiment yesterday. Trying to get into BG3 but I’m not sure. Satisfactory, it’s been a fun little game so far, I was doing my first playthrough with a few people but half of them have been a bit occupied this week.
Oh boy, which side? Foxhole is a game you love and hate and it will take your time if you let it so make sure you’re doing things you enjoy and remember that you can’t win the war on your own so don’t try to.
While Take-Two is riding high on their announcement that a GTA 6 trailer is coming, its CEO has some…interesting ideas on how much video games could cost, part of a contingent of executives that believe games are underpriced, given their cost, length or some combination of the two.
A few of those games form my core of things I’ll go back to every so often, though my list isn’t all Indies. I’d probably throw CDDA, Dwarf Fortress and KSP in there too though, off the top of my head. Surprised to see foxhole in there but I suppose it’s in a relatively decent state at the moment and it’s somehow claimed 1400 hours from me on steam now.
While I’m interested in private servers I feel like I’ve finished warcraft. I did Legion and the whole burning legion story that started with wc1 is done for me.
It’s alright up to about 6.0 afaik definitely better but still not great. Imagine if they realised how much money they could make it they didn’t make mechanics to punish gameplay and priced things at reasonable prices.
One of the big winners of the Unity debacle is the free and open source Godot Engine, which has seen its funding soar to a much more impressive level as Unity basically gave them free advertising.
Blender used to be basically unusable for me, the UI made no sense and attempting to use it after learning 3d through maya and 3ds it just didn’t work. Then they made it good, I spent a few weeks learning it a few years ago and it’s great now. What you’re describing is exactly what they went and did
