Carighan, do games w Legend of Zelda
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Ouff, this is difficult.

To me it’s a very close call between:

  • Majora’s Mask (atmosphere, inventiveness with the loop, boss battles)
  • Link’s Awakening (first self-owned game, lots of memories, also that nerve-wrecking final battle with forms after forms after forms)
  • Tears of the Kingdom (the way they hid the third world until release, the grand atmosphere, the whole thing around the Master Sword)

Majora’s Mask probably wins. But it’s a really close call.

Probably OoT followed by MM. At least those are the ones I spent the most time on.

But I also really enjoyed all the NES and GBC games. Especially Oracle of Ages/Seasons were amazing.

Haven’t played anything newer I’m afraid.

WarioWare is very easy to binge :b

I have hung up the cape on Helldivers 2 for now, each patch makes the game more and more unstable. It’s to the point where I rarely make it two missions without crashing, losing progress each time has pretty sucked all the fun out of the game.

The timing is good, though, I snagged a spot in the Once Human beta test and have been really enjoying it. Surprisingly fun with interesting building, crafting, and exploration mechanics. Definitely a time sink though ^^;

My first was the OG Legend of Zelda on the NES, and it will always occupy a special place in my heart. I hated The Adventure ot Link because it was so different from the first one, and because I could never get past the first dark cave. I spent hours scouring the towns for a candle, and it never occurred to me that I could just go through it in the dark.

OOT was amazing getting to ride Epona and move around in 3 dimensions. The puzzles, the stories, the polygons, I think that was my favorite Zelda experience overall.

Twilight Princess was fun, and I loved Skyward Sword more than most people seemed to. To me, the Wii mechanics and the flying were worth the frustrations. But I understand why it was divisive.

Breath of the Wild had that OOT feeling of discovery to it. It was fun to play, and novel enough to keep me exploring. I haven’t played Tears of the Kingdom yet, but my son loves it so I’m looking forward to it.

I regret that I never played A Link to the Past, Majora’s Mask, Wind Waker, or any of the handheld games.

For some reason the thing that was resounding in my head while reading was a loud “THIS GUY FUCKS!”

I am giddy-happy for you!

I’m glad you have someone with you to share in the event. It is going to be such a special day!

Honestly the very first game was amazing. It was janky but fun.

tuckerm,

I remember thinking that it was the pinnacle of graphics. I mean, it was photos of real people, that had to be as realistic as games could possibly look.

AND I WAS RIGHT.

I remember playing Metal Gear Solid as a child and saying “graphics won’t ever get any better than this”.

That definitely didn’t age well. Just like me.

After all the trouble I had with Horizon Forbidden West for a couple of days (endless crashing), it’s been great since then. As if nothing ever happened. So, I’ve just been exploring, killing, and looting.

Then, I also started Dave the Diver. It’s a great game, even better than I thought it would be.

Played some Crisis Core FF7 (PSP) during down time on a road trip. I forgot how clunky the game feels, but it’s entertaining enough.

I’d like to see how the remaster compares… According to what I’ve heard, the cutscenes are upscales of the original FMVs, which are both odd and intriguing.

I happened to be able to see the 2017 one and it was so impactful I saved the date and made sure I’d make it happen. Cut forward 7 years and here I am with most of my immediate family (I have 6 siblings so having most is impressive).

It is an experience that can’t be captured by any form of digital or physical media and my only way to describe it is - it’s the closest thing to magic I’ve ever experienced.

I plan on saving up and going overseas for one as well.

Unrelated, but I just wanted to say that rotating Mars icon for the channel looks pretty slick.

“camped” out in Quebec, my son speaks better French than me and has corrected me all weekend, but we’ll see whose in charge when I poke him in the eyes two seconds before totality… Or squeal like a school girl as it approaches, we’ll see which happens!

Store the memory of this wonderful milestone in your life where you can reflect on a life well spent and be embedded in the feeling of belonging to a loving family. That shit is GOLD and will protect your mental health like a Patronus Charm from Harry Potter.
