Don’t forget Cities Skylines and the recently released sequel. They’re both a lot of fun but for the sequel they really listened to the community. It’s a bit of a performance hog. There are performance patches coming but in the interim there area lot of settings one can change to make it run better on lower end hardware.

slazer2au,

I am giving CS2 a year or so to clean up the performance issues and wait for the workshop to kick into gear.

elscallr,
@elscallr@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve got a decently beefy machine but it’s not top of the line or anything (Radeon RX 6950 XT, Core i7, 16GB memory) and with a few tweaks it runs pretty well. Definitely looking forward to the performance updates, though, because it’s a truly beautiful game.

AlexisFR,
@AlexisFR@jlai.lu avatar

That’s still a fairly beefy GPU though.

Evotech,

Counterstrike 2 has great performance

slazer2au,

I wouldn’t know. We were talking about Cities Skylines 2

I haven’t played the beta yet but I’m hoping that The Finals, which is made by ex-Dice devs, will be a good alternative to Battlefield and COD. I just miss destructible environments so badly. Bad Company 2 was so so good back in the day.

sirfancy,

I really, really hope that it doesn’t get overrun with cheaters like warzone did. I have really high hopes for the game because I’m having a blast with the beta. Not often does a game come along out of nowhere and just tick all the boxes with having such a solid formula. Last game I felt like this with was Alex Legends. Pls devs don’t screw this up 🙏

LadyLikesSpiders,

Saw an article on that game recently that they’re using AI voices in that. I don’t think it’s for everything, but if you happen to be an opponent to AI, that’s something to know. If not, well, carry on 😅

ViscloReader,

I honestly think it’s a good application of AI. It really sets the “tournament” vibe

Evotech,

I mean, you could make an argument that AI announcers have an in-game reason to be a thing.

zero_spelled_with_an_ecks, do games w What did you think of Sea of Stars?

The combat felt really slow to me, but I continued for a while until the game soft locked by just putting the characters in a small, black room. Nothing I could find fixed that and there wasn’t enough of a draw to really look for a fix. Might try again at some point but it was only so so for me overall.

sosodev,

Oh no, that sucks. If you generally like turn based combat I would give it another go. The first few hours are fairly boring but there are some very cool battles later in the game.

partiallycyber, do games w What did you think of Sea of Stars?

I had a similar reaction!

Spending a couple extra hours wrapping up quests and collecting conches (on the recommendation of a friend) wound up being well worth it for me, the true ending felt much more satisfying.

For what it’s worth, all the quests take somewhere around 20-40 minutes each, if I remember correctly. Even the collection quest wasn’t too bad, thanks to the treasure finding parrot.

sosodev,

Yeah… I’ll probably end up doing it eventually. It’s just really lame to get hyped for the final fight and be told “go do side quests for a few more hours and then come back.”

kromem, do games w What did you think of Sea of Stars?

The production of it is excellent. Art is great, combat design was very good, music is good.

But the writing leaves a lot to be desired.

Like, if you could combine the writing of Undertale with the production of this game, you’d have a game that would rival the classics themselves.

As it was I really struggled to stay engaged with Sea when the dialogue felt like it was written by a Disney intern in their first week on the job.

sosodev,

The writing definitely feels very amateurish. Which I agree is a mismatch with the otherwise high quality nature of the game.

I like the overall themes though. It was serviceable enough for me.

Not many alternatives, other than playing older titles with overhaul mods like Divide e Impera

“The Big Cheese is the Dark Souls of poses” from the Destructoid review gave me a good chuckle. Unfortunately, The Big Cheese was also the Dark Souls of poses back in Smooth Moves, and it’s not encouraging to hear this game might be just as fiddly.

This November isn’t as stacked for me as last year’s, but I think I’m still going to wait on this one a bit.

Casette Beasts is good also.

Also keep a lookout for Beastieball! There’s currently a demo available on Steam.

I feel like the Sonic franchise’s last great game was Adventure 2. There’ve been a couple good ones since then, but not great.

Anyone got a good replacement?

poke,

Above but the chao garden is required to be in the replacement.

Aesk,

Lunistice

It’s relatively short, and there’s no chao garden. But it’s got a lot of soul. With a sequel on the way.

pikasaurX4,

You could check out Freedom Planet. It didn’t quite do it for me, but it has a decent fanbase

Started the Dead Space remake.

Played up to chapter 4 and not really vibing with it. I don’t usually like ditching games when I’ve already sunk time into them, but I’m not really having much fun with it, so I might switch over to Jusant or something.

Or just watch some TV I’ve been meaning to catch up on instead. Don’t know. We’ll see.

I guess I may suggest my all time favourite RPG. It’s Disco Elysium. A brilliantly written and crafted gem. You will find an amazing storyline, crazy dialogues and choices, psychedelic visuals. Such a gem must not be forgotten. What a pity the company almost dissolved after the release and the original authors won’t have a part in the sequel.

devbo,

why is nobody here saying what the game is an alternative for or what ki d of game play to expect?

I installed Persona 5 Royale yesterday and Sun about two hours into it. I’m not finding the gameplay or the story interesting, and the amount of time spent in cutscenes is wearing me down. Does it get better? Or is this game just not for me?

Crozekiel, do gaming w Is Star Citizen's new server meshing tech plagiarized?

You can't plagiarize mechanics because you cannot copyright mechanics... And you don't want to live in a world where you can. Imagine if the first company to make a first person shooter game copyrighted it... Or if Nintendo owned the rights to all 2d side scrolling games... Gaming would have never grown to what it is today.

Hell, even board games would have been crippled by this kind of copyright.
