It’s honestly very sad how corporations can just throw their work in the trash if they think it will make them more profit there. I’m glad Deery was able to release it on his own for free so the game won’t be lost, but it’s unclear if all the developers will be able to do that.
I can’t imagine how frustrating and disheartening it must be as an artist to create something to share with the world only for it to be essentially buried underground because someone decided they could make a little extra money if no one ever sees what you made…

I was looking at “Deery clarified that the game will be pulled in the next 60 days.” and thought that meant the publisher had exclusive distribution rights and was choosing to destroy the thing. From that site it looks like your interpretation is correct, which is good! Sometimes it’s good to be wrong 😅
This is honestly incredible work being done for preservation. As usual, it’s being done by fans and not Nintendo. It’s a travesty that Nintendo can’t be bothered to do more than the bare minimum and put the Satellaview content on SNES NSO.
The whole game was broadcasted through satellite, the only copies would either be in Japanese satellaviews (If those had storage), or at Nintendo themselves (If they kept a copy), so it’s not surprising that a vhs was the only way
Nintendo had a stake in the company doing the broadcasts but is extremely unlikely to have retained copies of the levels.
The only way to have retained the levels is by having received them by satellaview and then disconnecting the device, for 25 years, and hoping the memory isn’t too volatile to recover.
It’s extremely fortunate that some people recorded levels on VHs and that those VHS weren’t damaged or lost.

Based on the gradient of pressures from the “surface” to the core, it’s entirely feasible. I’ve read about ideas for blimp colonies on Jupiter as well as Venus!
