I’m glad it failed. The community was nice but the devs were pretty hostile towards linux. Also it was way too demanding on the specs for really bad graphics.

Time to pass laws, this shit keeps happening. If you sold a game over $x that completely ceases to be playable within X years, you should be forced to open-source your code.

Won’t bother guessing at what the best numbers should be, hardly matters as I’m sure lobbyists would defang the whole thing as much as possible.

I played the Beta. It had somewhat of an interesting gimmick, but the rest didn’t feel very polished. Granted, that was the Beta.

Comparing it to FragPunk which shortly followed, Fragpunk just felt better. I’ve been enjoying it since its release.

Eyck_of_denesle,

The final release was exactly like the closed beta

The year is 2037. Monster Hunter Tree Storm releases. The game is a static PNG that wiggles menacingly. It makes $8 billion dollars.

I’m guessing people preordered it to get these numbers. An obviously buggy game slips through the cracks again.

Console Gamers I reckon. Monster Hunter World was the same way, a “huge success” despite being an undercooked mess.

Won’t be me.

Also, Japan. My understanding is that everyone and their shiba inu plays MonHun in Japan.

With SteamDB estimating 2.6 - 3.27 million players on Steam it actually looks like PC is at least the second largest if not the largest platform.

finitebanjo,

Yikes, those poor PC gamers are in for a shock.

  • finitebanjo,

Recently a gamer news magazine reported that they cannot reccomend the game to anyone due to bad performance and gamebreaking bugs. Just like the World launch which sparked protests over Capcoms 0 refund ever policy.

I’ll never pay $70 for a game. Still waiting on Dragons Dogma 2 to go on sale. Even if it’s the same with inflation, why would I pay that for an unpolished product that still nickel and dimes me?

    SolidShake,

Games have been $70 for so long dude. I remember getting Mario party 64 for like $75.why do people act like this is so recent?

Also dragons dlgma 2 was like $40 a few months ago.

    HeadfullofSoup,

Same the game i really want i get at around 40-50% sale otherwise i'm a really patient gamer.

If you use steam dragon dogma 2 is around 35$ on fanatical

Side-scrolling action games are not my cup of tea, but ngl that trailer looked awesome. The artwork is gorgeous and the T2 theme got me all nostalgic (even though I strongly prefer Terminator to Terminator 2; 2 is OK, I prefer the darker and horror-focused tone of the first one).

    Ashtear,

Yeah, I don’t think I realized how much nostalgia I had attached to the movie’s music.

The trailer had all the elements that felt good about movie games from back then, but there was a lot of actual trash put out back in the day.

Hopefully the gameplay is good on this.

    tatann,

I’d say they offer two different sides of the franchise, like Alien vs Aliens, but both brilliant, and both scary/traumatic to the then young generation

    Agent_Karyo, (edited )
    @Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world avatar

I do prefer Alien to Aliens, but Aliens is an excellent film as well. They are close.

Over time I’ve started to enjoy T2 somewhat less and definitely began appreciating T1 more.

My biggest issue with T2 is that in retrospective it has more of a summer blockbuster feel to it. T1 also had a lot of action, but none of the teen angst stuff.

    Further:

    • sadly no store pages are live yet to wishlist
    • the release date is September 5th (for some reason skipping Judgement Day’s date?!)
    spizzat2,

I mean… Which Judgment Day? The obvious answer is T2’s Judgment Day of August 29th, but the timeline is so complicated that there’s at least one Judgment Day in September.

    Beetschnapps,

It’s only complicated if you accept that any of the movies after t2 existed. I do not. They’re expensive fan fiction.

Terminator dark fate is as much canon as a throwaway ride at universal studios. The T 1,000,000 isn’t a thing…

I’m excited for this game but hate the attitude Level-5 has with the Switch version despite it starting on Nintendo platforms. Price went up to fund the multiplat release and no physical release.

I think I’m going to play through the first one on 3DS again and wait for a price drop, but I’m looking forward to seeing how people like it!

cybervseas, do games w Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter launches in fall 2025 worldwide for PS5, Switch, and PC

The original version (or is it the first remake?) is still on Steam and runs great. I just finished it a few months ago.

Does redoing the graphics of a relatively modern-game make it worth $60? I’m interested in understanding the perspective of folks that are planning to buy.

    iAmTheTot,

Not everyone will have played it already. If I’m a new buyer and I see one version and another version that’s the same but looks better, then yeah I’m gonna buy the one that looks better.

    Ashtear,

That’s the original version of the game. It’s had enhanced ports but never a remake previously. From what we know, this is a full remake, with changes to gameplay, a new localization, and some additions for continuity. The game’s 20 years old. Hard to put that anywhere near modern.

Since it’s the first in a continuous series, it’s long seemed necessary to at least bring the game into full 3D for new players to come on board. For long-term Trails fans, the value of this remake (and the inevitable second one, at least) will probably depend on some of the details, especially the localizations for players that don’t read Japanese.

    Grass, (edited )

I mean Horizon zero dawn remaster does look better and supposedly fixes some other stuff like janky script flow, but I still wouldn’t. Maybe for newcomers to the series.

I haven’t played this but I would imagine it’s just as anime style as it looks, in which case why even. Unless there were major flaws that should have been fixed in an update rather than a remake, and/or loads of new content that should have just been a dlc, I can’t see much merit in a new version.

edit: the article mentions it being remade in 3d, so I guess the original wasn’t. It mentions voice acting too but I dont know if it already had that. That could make for enough of an overhaul I suppose.

edit 2: it was isometric 3d based on screen shots, new one looks fully modern 3d

I’m playing through the series now. Just finished SC/the second chapter!

It’s always fun to see someone else playing the same old game as you by coincidence.

    cybervseas,

🙂 I’m slowly working through SC. You might like !patientgamers if you aren’t there already.

    otp,

Thank you! Indeed I am there!

Keep enjoying SC. I loved it. A few people I’ve seen didn’t like the first few chapters, but imo it’s worth it to play through to the end.

My friend who loves the entire series says SC is his second favourite game in the series!

    shrodes,

I’ve never played the series but I am interested and planning on seeing if the new version is good / considered “definitive” by fans of the series. If it’s good I will likely play this rather than the original version.

Same strategy I’m taking for Dragon Quest 1/2/3
