KoboldCoterie, do gaming w MSI Gaming Teases Its Own Steam Deck Competitor
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

In my opinion, the fact that so many of these competing devices run windows just ruins them out of the gate. The fact that you can cleanly suspend and resume games on the Deck is its best feature by a mile, and I’ve yet to see any windows-based device manage to even come close to doing that reliably.

EvilMonkeySlayer,

Yep, I think they need to get SteamOS on these if they want to compete. Windows is simply not good for devices like this, at all.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yeah if it runs windows then to me its not a steamdeck competitor.

Good. The sooner those types of games die for good, the better

Draconic_NEO, do games w You'll Have To Wait At Least Two Years For A Faster Steam Deck

That’s fine, the steam deck is already fast enough as is. What I’m mostly interested in is a next gen steam controller for docked Gameplay. One with the same controls as the deck (Dual Analog) and also has USB-C, also since it would be more easily available than the Old Steam Deck controllers which you can only buy used and in ever increasing scarcity.

lobut, do games w You'll Have To Wait At Least Two Years For A Faster Steam Deck

Given that I just bought one and am waiting for it to arrive in the bloody mail. I think that’s fine.

Also, I’m okay with playing less intensive titles regardless. If I wanted to be immersed with high fidelity stuff I’d use my gaming PC. I also chose the Deck over the Ally and Legion Go due to software integration and hardware repair options.

Quentinp, do gaming w GameStop Boss Says Disc Drives Should Be Required On Game Consoles
@Quentinp@lemmy.ca avatar

I have an XBox One S (and a PC) - really hits home when in Game Stop with my kids and they were looking around (mainly for figures and such), and i’m like “there’s nothing for me here”. Of course I haven’t bought a physical PC title in over 10 years now that I think of it. I feel for the shop owners, they haven nothing for me to buy and I used to like going to shop around. Come to think of it I used to go to book stores quite often too, but not since i got my first kindle.

I did recently re-buy an Xbox 360 and it is kind of nice to browse second hand shops and such and just pickup a game that I can just play without internet etc.

@cloudless@feddit.uk avatar

Yeah keep that mindset and follow Blockbuster’s fate.

Guildo,

Besides Gamestop - I think it could be important. What if the servers shut up in the future? How do you get your purchased games?

freeman,

You download them and back them up. What happens if the disc is scratched or your buddy drops a blunt on it?

InvertedParallax,

If they’re purely digital and drmed you can’t back them up.

freeman,

I have backups of my PS4, with games downloaded from the PS store that say different.

Heck any Playstation disc games tries multiple times to get you to save it to the HDD.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

The DRM is the key part of that. So the answer is DRM-free, not physical media. Especially since all games get patched these days.

Guildo,

You can’t buy all games at GOG.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

You can't buy all games on disc either. Also, not every game on Steam has DRM.

Your buddy buys you a new disk…

jmcs,

If it’s still being published or if a second hand copy doesn’t cost more than your buddy’s annual wage.

iAmTheTot,
@iAmTheTot@kbin.social avatar

What fucking second hand games are you buying? Beloved classics aren't that expensive.

TwilightVulpine,

In retrospect there were some advantages to Blockbuster compared to streaming services where stuff disappears every day.

Six months ago Cohen didn’t give a flying fuck about disc drives because he was selling the idea that you would soon buy all your games from GameStop on an NFT marketplace that they recently had to shut down because the SEC is cracking down on NFTs as Securities.

He gives a fuck now because his golden goose got shot in the head.

PlainsKeeper316, do gaming w Sea Of Stars Has Huge Day-One Sales, Despite Launching On Game Pass And PS Plus

It's really fun so far. It's been my "relaxing" game inbetween playing Baldur's Gate, Armored Core and Remnant 2.

Fermiverse,

That's what do as well. While I was desperate waiting for BG3 to release, when it finally arrived I was totally overwhelmed by the game. It is really heavy weighted. The shear mass of possibilities and consequences makes it hard, at least for me, to relax without fomo.

PowerCrazy, do gaming w Ubisoft Canceled Civil War-Based Assassin's Creed Over Controversy Concerns - Report

It would have been garbage. Either they would have had to severely restrict the player in absurd ways to make sure that no one played the game “wrong,” and then posted edgy youtubes about it. Or they would have had to narrow the scope and strip so much context that it would be basically impossible to tell it was supposed to be the American civil war, other then seeing some union flag props around.

BeardedGingerWonder,

Yeah, £15 was pushing it, I don’t play as much as I’d like, big benefit was cloud gaming facilitating couch co-op, but at the minute it’s mostly my kids playing Minecraft, cheaper just to buy that.

superglue, do gaming w Game Pass Price Hike Announced, Will Cost $30/Month For Ultimate

I thought it was a good deal when it was 15 buy I canceled ages ago. I just never played any of the games. For some it probably still is a good deal if you are the type of gamer I am. I have about 3 games I consistently come back to, those games I own on Steam. Then I’m pretty much a tourist otherwise. I play a game for a few hours, get bored and move on to the next and will never play it again.
