Kazumara, do gaming w What is something (feature, modes, settings...) you would like to see become a standard in video games?

Lefty mode would be nice. I’m tired of rebinding movement keys in every game.

Bartsbigbugbag,

I’m a lefty, but there was no way in hell I was moving the mouse to the other side every time I used the family computer, so I just learned how to use my right hand.

Kazumara,

As a kid I had my own PC early and my dad set it up left handed for me. Now I’ve played games left handed in general for 23 years, and shooters in particular for 15 years already, it’s too late to relearn :-)

I’m running a slightly older computer, that I need to upgrade my memory and graphics card on. The only reason I am going to try this when it comes out and not just keep playing City Skylines 1 is that it is a day one release on Game Pass. I’m not sure with the performance issues my computer will handle it and I haven’t really seen much conversation about specs required, so I’m concerned. My system was mid tier 4 years ago so if it is running bad on high tier systems today…

I’ve got an RTX 4070 and a 4790K. I’m fully prepared for my CPU to have a really hard time keeping up. I think an upgrade will be coming early next year.

This is just a game I’m really really really excited about.

kayrae_42,

I definitely am going to upgrade, I want their new life sim which they pushed the early release date back on. So I have been saving to do that. I just knew I wouldn’t be able to have everything in time for the release of this game. Hopefully the bugs will be worked out by the time I’m finished. I’m hoping by the summer.

Thassodar,

Keep me in mind if you’re looking to sell that 4070 in the future. I’m still running a 2070.

Well, it replaced an R9 290 so you might be waiting a while for me to get in touch lmao

sheogorath, do games w Cities Skylines 2 - Review Thread - (76/100 OpenCritic)

They’re releasing this game as an early access. The Day One Game Pass release evidenced this, they wanted as many people as possible running this game to beta test this game.

Why not just release the game as an early access you say? If you release the game as early access there would be much less people buying and installing the game compared to a “full release” and we need the line going up for the Q4 so that our corporate overlords can buy another ranch at New Zealand my friend.

JokeDeity, do gaming w Well, Cities: Skylines 2 is here, and it's another broken game release.

I never play these types of games but I distinctly remember my friend having a full on meltdown about how fucked up the first Cities Skylines was like a decade ago, lol.

Chobbes,

I guess you’re just talking about one person, but I think Cities Skylines was received quite well in general? I just remember a bunch of praise for Cities Skylines (in contrast to Sim City 2013 which a bunch of people had a meltdown about).

barsoap,

Being better than later Sim City games isn’t much on an achievement, doesn’t mean that CS wasn’t quite janky at the start.

masquenox, do gaming w What is something (feature, modes, settings...) you would like to see become a standard in video games?

A way to rapidly exit a game a la The Binding Of Isaac: Afterbirth. It has saved that game from being rage-deleted off my machine plenty of times.

littlecolt,

Does Alt+F4 not work well enough?

Give me Disco Elysium-tier choices in story development and dialogue.

prole, do gaming w What is something (feature, modes, settings...) you would like to see become a standard in video games?

Maybe not everywhere, because then it wouldn’t be nearly as special, but I absolutely adored the “asynchronous multiplayer” aspects of Death Stranding.

Viewing the “strand contracts” tab and looking at how many other actual humans used and “liked” the infrastructure you created, or helped to create. Creating contracts with players who seem to appreciate your work, so that you see more of their structures, and they see more of yours. Only a couple examples. Trying to find the most optimal place for a bridge, or watchtower so that other players will appreciate it and give you “likes.” That nice feeling of warmth you get when you finish building a road that others had started…

Just the whole freaking thing fits so well into the “we’re all in this together, even if we’re (forcibly) isolated” message the game is conveying. Working together with real people that you will never directly see or speak to, in order to make an incredibly arduous journey a bit easier for all. Amazing.

At least I think that was one of the messages, Kojima can be cryptic at times lol.

Again, I wouldn’t want it to become the next “climb the tower to reveal part of the map” mechanic, and get ruined. You can’t just shoe-horn it in, it has to make sense in context.

Miclux, do games w Cities Skylines 2 - Review Thread - (76/100 OpenCritic)

9/10 what a joke. The same people giving 10/10 to cyberpunk…

WarmSoda,

I wonder how many people reviewing the game even played the first one.

Also, seeing comments in reviews about how it’s ‘a good start’ make me sad about the state of the game industry, and how people are so willing to accept it.

Rentlar,

Idk, having delivered on what the game purported to be in the trailer is nice imo. Due to the ambition and relatively short window between announcement and release, delaying it to resolve performance issues on PCs would have heightened expectations further than what would have been developed for it.

Performance issues I know are game breaking for many gamers and I can respect that. To me, it’s one negative within many positives. My 50k cities in CS:1 are a lagfest anyway.

d4rko, do games w What game did you find in a bargain bin that turned out to be awesome? For me it was Z by Bitmap Brothers which I got at Zellers for $0.47

Quake series. Thousands of hours on them.

root, do gaming w What is something (feature, modes, settings...) you would like to see become a standard in video games?

I would be nice if the game detects that it’s been quite some time since I last played, and give a quick refresher of the keybinds as well as brief rundown of recent missions completed / story-so-far.

Parent mode lol

feebl,

500 games in backlog-mode

root,

Or … adult mode 😜

Brasidas,

Yes! I gave up playing Doom Eternal and then went back to it after a few months and I just kept getting killed instantly. I forgot how to play it!

Taringano,

Ghost of tsushima does that and won my heart for it. (well for that it won even more)

shrugal,

I loved how the Witcher 3 did a brief recap of the current story step in the loading screen, just enough to make you remember what was going on.

littlecolt,

Dragon Quest XI also! I love this feature. Final Fantasy XII-2 also did it in a nice cinematic way, like you’re watching a show, with snippets of cutscenes after a voice says “Final Fantasy XIII-2, the story so far…”

chunkystyles, do games w Cities Skylines 2 - Review Thread - (76/100 OpenCritic)

I thought I was going to play this game day one. The performance issues are going to keep me away until they’re fixed at least somewhat. I’m happy to hear that’s the only complaint reviewers have.

weeahnn,
@weeahnn@lemmy.world avatar

That does seem to be a big hurdle for a lot of games these days. It comes out, the performance is bad so not as many people are able to enjoy it. I just hope that CO quickly fixes any performance issues the game might have.

chunkystyles,

I hope so, too. I am unbelievably hyped for this game. It really seems like they fixed everything that detracted from the first game. Mainly the awful traffic “AI”.

sheogorath,

I just experienced this while playing Diablo 4. In the pre-season I routinely got ~120 FPS on my graphical settings and tried out the game again after season 2 release and my FPS shot up to 350.

Will_WMGC, do games w Cities Skylines 2 - Review Thread - (76/100 OpenCritic)

I think what the game’s like right now won’t matter as much as what it’ll become. I don’t think CO need to do a ton to make it as good if not better than the first game. Really excited for it, personally!

Leyths,

Yeah agreed. I’ve been following along with a lot of the influencer videos over the last few weeks and whilst the performance seems choppy, the base game looks like a really solid improvement over CS1

I’ve been encouraged by the acknowledgment of the poor performance by the devs and letting the embargo lift relatively early. If people want to wait for a few performance patches before buying I think that’s really fair- but personally I’m looking forward to messing around with it on release.

simple,

It’s pretty much par for the course for Paradox games to have a sequel that isn’t as fleshed out but has a bright future. I’d still wait a few years to pick it up with DLCs.

Devion, do gaming w Well, Cities: Skylines 2 is here, and it's another broken game release.

Well, maybe this is why AMD is bringing back threadripper?

ArmokGoB, do gaming w What is something (feature, modes, settings...) you would like to see become a standard in video games?

Holding down MMB for callouts in online games. Apex and Risk of Rain 2 both do it and it’s super useful.

saigot,

I think you are in luck, most competitive shooters have it these days, I can’t really think of a big one that doesn’t, some are better than others though. Counterstrike, overwatch, warzone, fortnite, valorant, rainbow six all have them.

ArmokGoB,

Destiny 2 doesn’t have it, and I don’t think BattleBit has it. I don’t really play battle royales anymore. I’m glad it’s becoming more widely used.

MummifiedClient5000, do gaming w What is something (feature, modes, settings...) you would like to see become a standard in video games?

Cut-scenes that can be paused, skipped and replayed later.

Koordinator_O,

This so much. Hate it when the cat desides to destroy the whole flat for no actuall reason. You test the pause button just to see it is skipping and you did not safe before the cutscene. so no going back watching the scene.
