I have an elite, but prefer the 8 bit do ultimate. It’s light but sturdy, comfortable, can toggle to pair with my switch or the PC, and has a cool looking charging dock.

n0clue,

I think I’ll have to try that out.

teawrecks, do gaming w Good chair that is *affordable* ?

I would steer clear of any chairs that

  • function as a billboard for themselves (high back with a logo that’s clearly visible on a twitch stream)
  • are built like a bucket seat from a race car
  • or are otherwise marketed toward “gamers”

I would try looking for a second hand expensive one. I found a guy on CL who restores Herman Millers; sold me a lightly used Aeron for like $300.

The one I used before that was the Ikea Markus (also purchased on CL for $100, barely used).

Be specific, dude. Anything “can be played” on some sort of integrated graphics setup, depending on wtf we are talking about.

Rimworld is primarily CPU bound. It’s potentially my favorite game ever.

Bought Outer Wilds yesterday and started playing it with the VR and voice acting mod. Haven’t gotten far yet but seems very interesting so far and the VR mod is so good that it feels like a native VR game.

I bought it but haven’t played it yet, I really need to overcome my laziness and do it 😅

This browser game/toy called Infinite Craft was doing that for me yesterday. It's very neat, you just take different words and combine them to create new things, and then use those to make more things, but its secret is that it uses a low level AI so that if you craft a combination that's never been crafted before it can accommodate that and attributes you as the first discoverer.

You start with the whole basic idea of combining elements like fire and water to make steam and such, but you can relatively quickly end up accidentally creating more complex things, and they dont even have to be objects, they can be named franchises or concepts like Star Wars or Creation.

Eventually I felt like a small kid ripping the limbs off action figures and seeing if the dinosaur head would fit on the Darth vader figure. I ended up first discovering some insane Eldritch shit like Barack Crabwich Vader-car, a part president, part crab, part sandwich, part sith lord cyborg, part car. Or Zombie Muppet Prince Kermie. Or the Jurassic Mecha-Deloreansaur.

It's free and is a ridiculously absurd hoot, I'd recommend it on a PC browser since you get a big space to drag out certain concepts you wanna keep and reuse.

I play a lot of boomer shooters, some of the more nostalgic ones give me that feeling.

But the cozy exploration, and childlike wonder of Sable are feelings I yearn for long after completing it. So far nothing else has scratched the itch.

Outer Wilds can get similar when you have transcended beyond the existential dread of lonely death in space. It’s spooky at times, but death is cheap, so you just look forward to the next attempt.

Stardew Valley

Disney Dreamlight Valley

Or maybe just Minecraft

DillyDaily, do games w What games do you recommend for my girlfriend?

If she loves organisation, “A Little to the Left” and “Unpacking” are cute.

Stardew Valley is being mentioned a lot and with good reason, there are a lot of elements to that game and you can choose which activities you like most - farming, mining, fighting monsters, foraging, interacting with villagers.

From there you can get a really good idea of what other games could be even better. For example if she loves the social side of Stardew Valley a Japanese Social Sim game might be fun too.

Take a look at “Lovers in a dangerous spacetime”. It’s a cute, fun coop game with fairly simple controls. And I’m pretty sure it was developed with non-gamer partners in mind.

Minecraft? you could build atuff together

orca, do gaming w What to play at after work?

Quake 3 if you wanna go old school. Pretty much anything will run it these days and you can easily spin up a local server for it. You can do FFA or play on teams.

Rocket League is always fun IMO. Good to blow off steam and not have to focus on story.

mundane,

To blow off steam without focus on a story is very much inline with what we are after.

The downside with rocket league is that if we create tournaments, it is elimination rounds. What do the eliminated people do while the tournament completes. Or maybe I’m overthinking it, they could just play local matches until we decide to start a new tournament.
