bear_delune, do gaming w Stray really disappointed me. I want a real cat game.

What about Little Kitty Big City?

tombuben,

I have really high hopes for this. I don’t think it’ll be a “survival” game and more of a cute cat sandbox similar to Untitled Goose Game though.

ben, do gaming w Anyone else remember those giant scale maps that used to be in shooters? e.g. bathroom, kitchen, office, backyard, that made you feel so tiny?

There’s a survival game called Grounded that’s basically this but even smaller. And a coop story action/adventure called It Takes Two that does the same.

I’ve been playing through It Takes Two with my SO, such a great game. I’ll have to check out Grounded, 40% off right now.

Evil_Shrubbery, do games w What free to play games can run smoothly on my old laptop?

Tumbleweed, there are dozens of us!! <3

The trusty twinkpad will play a lot of *‘good old game’*s, just to name a few:
Doom(s), Quake(s), Unreal, Deus Ex, Elder Scrolls (Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim), Thief(s), Dungeon Keeper(s), Carmageddon, Fallout(s), Resident Evil(s), Vampire: The Masquerade, Hitman(s), Clive Barker’s Undying, Gothic(s), Half-Life, Tomb Raider(s), Myst(s), Monkey Island(s), Baldur’s Gate(s), Icewind Dale(s), Diablo(s), GTA(s), KotOR, Outcast, Serious Sam(s), Cave Story, Dark Souls (1 & 2, bcs 30fps, but only barely/unpleasanty?), …

Maybe some newer retro ones, like Dusk?

Or not that visually important games, like 2D platformers and management games, etx - like Stardew Valley, Terraria, Dead Cells, Disco Elysium, Hollow Knight, Celeste, Momodora(s?), Spelunky(s), …

All of the mentioned are excellent.

Hideakikarate, do gaming w For me, it was Microsoft Ants

Old computer game, never have been able to remember the name. It was a sci-fi setting. I distinctly remember taking a ship of some sort and attacking multiple-legged walkers. I don’t think it was a Star Wars game. You didn’t just control the aerial vehicles as there were also grounds vehicles. You could change out weapons on the vehicle before the mission. There’s a line that has stuck with me though: “You’re replaceable, the (ship thing) isn’t”. I remember it coming in a PC game subscription service from the mid 90’s. I think the service was called SOMC or something along those lines. It’s where I also learned of SWARM and 7 Kingdoms. I still have yet to this day been able to find that sci-fi game, or even the subscription service (or evidence of its existence) again.

weckhorst,

Could it be Earthsiege 2 by any chance?

Hideakikarate,

Jesus fucking Christ is been 30 years! I think you found it! You fucking legend!

weckhorst,

Happy to help, hope your Christmas became as good as it was 30 years ago ☺️

sausager, do gaming w For me, it was Microsoft Ants
Iunnrais,

A boy and his blob. They made a modern sequel which lost a main gameplay component— puzzling out the puns for the various abilities, or at least making a hand written lookup chart. Just telling you that a punch jellybean makes a hole isn’t quite the same.

BreakerSwitch, do games w Looking for 3D Platformer recommendations on sale on Steam

I’ve heard good things about, but not myself played, Penny’s Big Breakaway, might be worth looking into, it’s got a demo on steam. I think it’s the game closest to your list I’m aware of. In terms of slightly different 3D platformers that MAY be to your taste: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a step away from the others in your list in terms of movement styles, as a spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio, but is a proper 3D platformer, and the music is really good. Exploring each new area is the primary gameplay loop, with some limited combat that isn’t really the focus. Mirror’s Edge is a first person platformer with focus on going fast. The movement is surprisingly good for a first person game, and I’ve enjoyed going back and running time trials, as every level has a ton of very non obvious alternate routes that involve taking advantage of all your movement options (ie: wall jumping in a space you may not have realized was even an option, rather than going up stairs) Neon White is probably the furthest from what you’re looking for, but is one I’m a big fan of. Another first person platformer with short, timed stages, and ratings at the end. Killing enemies gives cards that can be used for attacks or movement. The dialogue is all extremely cringe (and deliberately so)

pedro,

Bomb rush was 10/10 for me, highly recommend it

brsrklf,

I’ve played Penny’s Big Breakaway. It’s well made, and I had a bit of fun with it, but it’s not what I usualy look for in a platformer. It’s a very score-based game in which just going through a level is easy but the real challenge is doing it in style, by chaining moves and racking up combos.

wizardbeard,

It’s worth noting that Penny’s Big Breakaway is made by the majority of the people who made Sonic Mania. And the Sonic Android ports.

So it’s very well polished.

fartographer, do games w Do we have No Man's Sky fans here?

No, I’m not a No Man’s Sky fan. I’m a recovering No Man’s Sky addict. If retirement exists in the future, I hope this game still exists, cuz I’m gonna ruin whatever remains of my life with it.

Skankhunt420, do games w Thank Goodness You're Here - most absurd & hilarious game what did I just play?

I remember seeing in the beginning credits one time how it’s based off of a novel and thinking “huh I wonder what its about?”

And then going back in to the bakery store and the woman was saying “its about the interpersonal conflicts of everyone living on the same street its very moving, nothing like this shite”

peetabix,

I remember watching the film as a kid, Kes. Maybe the book has the same name.

There were many but the one I wanna mention is Dredge - a horror fishing game that is creepy fun. Wasn’t on my radar but popped up on gamepass and I love it.

For those of you who may be on the fence, go fucking play Dredge

trslim, do gaming w Watching my integrity slip away after having to backtrack once.

I think in world fast travel points are the best way to do things. You wanna get to that city? Best take the strider. Wanna go to the town out in the middle of nowhere? Theres a bus that goes that direction. Makes it feel much better imo.

leftzero, (edited ) do gaming w Watching my integrity slip away after having to backtrack once.

I never used the fast travel systems in Cyberpunk 2077, back before we could actually ride the tram. Used to walk everywhere and take in the sights.

Now I love to take the tram every now and then and relax watching Night City go by…

NikkiDimes,

Two things:

One - At launch the fast travel kinda sucked. It was easier, imo, to just mindlessly drive to your destination.

Two - YOU CAN RIDE THE TRAMS NOW?

leftzero,
LucidNightmare,

I’ve put 300 hours into this game, and not once did I know this was a thing. I beat it about the time the DLC came out. Is this a newer update, or did I just miss it on my last playthrough?

87Six,

I think it came pretty late, yea, way after the DLC.

I think there’s even another update coming out for it, but I’m not sure.

The devs love the game afaik. And so many people play it that updates are worth it for them to male more sales.

leftzero,

It came with Phantom Liberty, if I recall correctly, or soon after, so you missed it.

NikkiDimes,

Of all the things to get me back into the game…

I_Jedi, (edited ) do games w Any good games I missed in the last 21 months?

I specialize in finding obscure good games.

Alice’s World - Mix between Doki Doki Literature Club and an adventure game.

Astro Colony - Satisfactory in space.

Days Without Incident - Fun small game made by the same guys who made Nightmare House 2.

I also recommend keeping an eye on Fractured Blooms, The Oversight Bureau, Cycle of Struggle Ardengrad, and Advent Dawn. They’re only demos at the moment though.

LaserTurboShark69,

Nice list!

Fyi your Days Without Incident link goes to Astro Colony

I_Jedi,

Sorry about that. Fixed.
