Clair Obscure: Expedition 33. 60 hours in, still going through all the content in act 3. It’s really addictive, beautiful and fresh.

theangriestbird,
@theangriestbird@beehaw.org avatar

when you say “fresh”, what do you mean, exactly?

lustyargonian,

Something that’s very different, unique, with its own touch to everything.

  1. There’s very little explanation about the story despite a lot of really high quality cut scenes
  2. The combat is turn based but also very real time due to parries, dodges, jumps and what not
  3. The turn based combat is very addictive and yet very easy to understand.
  4. The art, you probably have never seen stuff like you see in the game
  5. The dialogues are really well thought
  6. Music, fresh.

Basically, they are doing a lot of stuff that isn’t what you commonly see in games yet it all works really well together.

theangriestbird,
@theangriestbird@beehaw.org avatar

yeah i understood what you meant, just was asking for your specifics. Which you also provided! So thank you, I appreciate the added insight

Finished the main story of Enderal. Impressive for a total conversion Skyrim mod, I wish there were more like this! Feels like I may touch this game again after five years or so.

My first question: Did they change the gun play?

Because that feeling I got from OW gun play was “spammy, unsatisfying, boring” either in kill time, movement or timing.

The weapons are simple, but you don’t get the arena gameplay of map control, ammunition control and weapon cycling of arena shooters.

A single weapon is not complex to use as a weapon in CS or DirtyBomb.

To be honest Dirty bomb does health and ammo management better.

Everything I hear sounds good, but I never heared them fixing guna.

@Poopfeast420@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Nope, the game is and will probably always be spammy. Everyone has unlimited ammo. I definitely prefer this btw.

There’s map control of course, just not like arena shooters. Most maps have changing objectives, around which the fights happen.

Instead of more difficult weapons you’re managing your abilities and cooldowns.

That’s just the kind of game OW is.

Eyck_of_denesle,

Ig thats just how the game is. I loved Valorants gun sounds better. Also the feeling when you 1 tap someone on a tac shooter is too peak. Sadly it’s playerbase is too toxic and the game isn’t on linux.

borari,

You should check out The Finals. Free to play, runs on Linux, guns feel and sound mint, dev studio made up of a bunch of former DICE devs. It’s not everyone’s bag of tea though there’s a lot of decision space in the main Cashout mode.

Until it gets a robust single player I’m not bothering with it, which is unfortunate

Are you using Gnome? (Workstation)

Also, though unrelated to your issue, DXVK_FRAME_RATE only works with DXVK (DirectX 11). RDR2 will use VKD3D (DirectX 12) or Vulkan natively.

mitexleo,
@mitexleo@buddyverse.one avatar

Yeah. I’m using Gnome. DXVK works with Vulkan.

imecth, (edited )

That's not the point, dxvk isn't gonna get used at all if the game is running dx12 or native vulkan.

GreyYeti, do games w RDR2 on Fedora 42 stuck in borderless windowed, can’t force fullscreen

I had this problem with windows a while ago and I believe in the graphics settings I was able to change it from “Vulkan” to directX. I don’t know anything about Linux, but if you have a comparable setting you can change you might be try that?

DirectX is not supported.

hal_5700X, do games w Death Stranding 2: On the Beach | Review Thread (92/100 OpenCritic)

This looks like a 5/10 game at best. That sucks. Because I like the first game.

EncryptKeeper,

What about the 92 metacritic score and the vast majority of reviews calling it “better than the first game in every way” makes it look like a 5/10 for you?

hal_5700X, (edited )

What was the biggest complaint about the first game? It was boring. Kojima over did it with the crazy stuff to counter that complaint. You have many musical moments and the final boss fight like he just watch FLCL for the first time. I like the first game’s more lay back vibe.

EDIT Also Kojima needs a co-writer bad.

EncryptKeeper,

The first game is a ton of fun. And seems to have been an 8/10 game. This one is evidently more so and is a 9/10 game. How you get 5/10 from that I’ll never know.

I think the DS games are just not for you.

I just told you.

I said I like the first one.

I’m addicted to Broken Arrow. I haven’t played a war RTS since World In Conflict. I’m pretty terrible at it and it’s taking time to learn how to put together a deck, but I’m really enjoying the multiplayer.

theangriestbird,
@theangriestbird@beehaw.org avatar

seems really cool! I like the flexible interpretation of the “point buy” system that tabletop wargames use.

Developer Steel Balalaika is based in Russia.

Not so fond of putting any money into Russia’s tax base, though. No shade to the devs who are probably cool people, I just struggle with making this kind of choice in our shitty modern world 😔

eagleeyedtiger,

Damn I didn’t even consider that honestly! It was an impulse buy because I was looking for something new to play. Can’t really refund either as I got it through a cdkey site. Feeling conflicted, but it’s been really fun 🙁

theangriestbird,
@theangriestbird@beehaw.org avatar

It’s okay, don’t feel bad! This is the kind of political decision where I don’t fault anyone for making either choice. Boycotting Russia is noble, but so is supporting devs for making amazing games!

Walican132, do gaming w Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Review Thread

I only recently played the first game an absolutely loved it. I didn’t realize the second was so close to coming out. Can’t wait. I know review scores tend to be inflated messes but this overwhelming positivity has me even more hyped.

PenguinTD,

yeah the director’s cut seems to make the progression much smoother. I am just like maybe 1/3 into it, maxed out connections so far each for new stations I get to. (5 stars on my leg so far.)

I do understand the need for those forced encounters, now I got gears to handle I need to remember to turn off the slow mo when encounter them. XD

theangriestbird, do gaming w Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Review Thread
@theangriestbird@beehaw.org avatar

I am amazed at how well this game is reviewing. It felt like half the critics were dunking on Death Stranding 1 upon release, and then there was this slow reappraisal where a bunch of people changed their tune over the course of the past 5 years. Now DS2 (Seek King Vendrick?) comes out, and with just a little refinement, the critics are all singing its praises. Would the review scores be as high if the general public had not come around on DS1?
