Can’t go wrong with pretty much any pre-Skyward Sword Zelda. SS itself also has Ballad of the Goddess, which was good, but I can’t remember any other tunes from it or BOTW that aren’t just reprises of tracks from previous games.
Overall, Surviving Mars might be my favorite work soundtrack. Assorted tracks from Stellaris plus the Age of Wonders and Civilization series are also good. Something about the soundtracks in 4X games and games like them always puts me in a productive mood while not making me emotional and thus distracted like RPG soundtracks can sometimes.
Since you like FF, I’d suggest looking into Uematsu’s other works as well, especially Lost Odyssey. For similar ones in the genre, there’s also Yasunori Mitsuda’s work in the Chrono and Xeno series.
I prefer Sci-fi background noise so Surviving Mars is my favorite. Mass Effect is ok but I find it gets a little too cinematic and bombastic at times. FTL and Into The Breach, or really anything by Ben Prunty is good too
Perhaps not exactly what your looking for, but there is an indie puzzle game based off picross 3d (one of my all time favorite puzzle games) that uses voxel styling
I loved Picross 3D 2 (or Round 2 or whatever it was called) on the 3DS! As you surmised, it’s not what I’m looking for, but I’ll try to snag it the first chance I get. Thanks!
I’ve only played the 2006 game, (loved it. 10/10 game for me) and was really excited for what was going to be Prey 2, there’s still a trailer floating around for it, you’d be a human bounty hunter cast into the wider galaxy post prey 2006s story. Unfortunately that didn’t get made.
I’ve heard good things about the 2017 but have yet to play it! Its been on my list for a while.
If you’ve played prop hunt and like randomly beating objects to find out what’s people you’ll probably like 2017.
In all seriousness though it is a good game that has a decent amount of fun frantic chaotic combat. I feel like it’s a bit difficult to compare to other games but if I had to I’d say it reminds me a bit of BioShock and Control
Fairly different games, 2006 was more of a classic linear narrative shooter in the early 2000s tradition but with some brilliant mechanics and novel guns, and a pretty cool storyline (if a bit b-movie-like). 2017 offers a freedom of approach and exploration that’s uncomparable, but it’s also more stern in atmosphere and tone. I don’t have a favourite, but now you made me want to do a replay of 2006
I feel like 2006 was a bit like a rollercoaster. You kind of just enjoy the ride and eagerly await what’s coming next. It helps it’s a relatively short game by today’s standards with HowLongToBeat saying it will take seven hours to complete.
