If she loves organisation, “A Little to the Left” and “Unpacking” are cute.

Stardew Valley is being mentioned a lot and with good reason, there are a lot of elements to that game and you can choose which activities you like most - farming, mining, fighting monsters, foraging, interacting with villagers.

From there you can get a really good idea of what other games could be even better. For example if she loves the social side of Stardew Valley a Japanese Social Sim game might be fun too.

Ship of Harkinian is not technically emulation, but a full port of Ocarina of Time. And is totally awesome. It has tons of quality of life improvements and enhancements. It also has a built in randomizer so it has infinite replayability.

SandLight,

Yup. I’ve been doing a yearly randomizer of Oot for several years. It’s really comfort food for me.

Also, there a build of SoH that runs on a hacked switch so I can play it from the couch :)

Purplexingg,

Is there somewhere to read what those changes are? Their home page just says some general stuff. I play a lot of alttp randomizer but oot always spooked me because it’s such a bigger game.

cafuneandchill,

Tried looking for a full feature list, couldn’t find any. Makes sense, tho, because it would probably be massive.

I’ve tried SoH before, and my favourite features are 60 FPS gameplay and gyro aiming. It also has a bunch of enhancements like time savers (faster test speed, “Better Owl”, time travel using the Song of Time, etc.), alternate assets (= mod support!), bunch of fixes and cut gameplay restoration. If you stream, it also has Crowd Control support. It even has a co-op mode now lol. As for the randomizer stuff, it has an item and check tracker, and a lot of settings for it.

I recommend you just check it out yourself or, alternatively, watch some video on YT that goes more in-depth on the features

I’m a fan of RPG games so I tend to emulate these games on my phone

  • Pokémon games from all Gameboys
  • Zelda games from Gameboy and SNES
  • Pretty much all final fantasy games
  • Suikoden 1 to 5
  • Mario RPG games
  • Shadow hearts games from the ps2
  • Dragon quest games
  • Personal games up until persona 4
  • Other games suck as Chroni Cross and Trigger, Hrxyz Force, Mother, Lufias, Tales games

All these games can be played with the touchscreen really.

zkfcfbzr,

Which SNES emulator do you use?

I play wave race 64 alot it really is such a fantastic game but it’s a very short one, I’ve played it to death. At one point I think I even beat the world record for the Glacier Coast course but I’ve heard that records set on emulators aren’t counted and even if you’re not cheating an emulator run is considered easier than on the real 64.

I really want another wave race title. I wasn’t a huge fan of the GameCube one. Just such a nostalgia hit. It was the first game I had on my 64 and I played all through Christmas day. Something about the sunset bay and also the training level really brings me right back to 1998 whenever I play it.

Start her on Dark Souls so that nothing she plays after will seem difficult.

    jjjalljs,

I got a girlfriend a long time ago to give the game a shot. She had played stuff before- she was playing BioShock on Xbox when we met. The rats by the big drake on the bridge literally made her cry. Felt pretty bad.

(We did eventually finish the game together in co-op, but we’re long since broken up for largely unrelated reasons)

    A_Very_Big_Fan,

One of my coworkers at some point told my girlfriend she should go in completely blind when she tried DS1, and I agree with that, but she took it to mean she should under no circumstances allow me to explain the mechanics of the game or the UI. She spent nearly two hours in the Asylum without ever getting to the boss’s fog wall because she wouldn’t let me explain that picking her weapon up didn’t mean she had it equipped. Finally I told her there was a big problem she could easily fix and move on with the game if she’d hear me out, but she still wouldn’t hear any of it, and then 30 seconds later I see her on her phone googling “do you need to use a shield in DS1” 🤦‍♀️

It was really frustrating because DS1 is hands down my favorite game, and I fully expected her to give up at some point but she gave up before she actually got to play the game.

A short hike. It’s like a super short cosy version of breath of the world’s platforming/exploration

    caseyweederman,

Seconded. Nice and chill, with just a touch of coming-of-age parents-aren’t-invincible melancholy.
Using A Short Hike as a jumping off point and following the growing-pains and melancholy threads while maintaining the explore-and-talk aspects, I’d like to recommend Night in the Woods.

    • The whole Pokémon franchise on gameboy/GBC/GBA/DS…
    • Skullmonkeys on PS1
    • The Crash bandicoot trilogy on PS1
    • Abe’s Odysee on PS1

If you want to play them on an android phone, lemuroid is a great plug and play emulator. If you want to play on a PC, retroarch works well, but I recommend to follow guides on their website to get started.
