Prey is still on my wishlist, should get around to playing it soon.

Screen_Shatter,

It goes on sale all the time for around $5. Its almost tragic, I think it sold poorly, but its really a great game.

slimerancher,
@slimerancher@lemmy.world avatar

It’s actually on sale for 5.99 right now, but it also sometimes go down to 2.99…

Maestro,

It's regularly on sale for 5-ish dollar. A must buy!

wizzim,

Try to get the deluxe version with the Mooncrash DLC, as the DLC alone is often expensive.

Mindustry has a version that runs on android. You can also play CDDA and Dwarf Fortress over SSH. I would suggest using screen so that you can easily reconnect to your session if you are disconnected. Played both over the covid lockdowns as I was staying with my partner and I would SSH to my PC to play. Used an external keyboard as my phone screen was pretty small, better on a tablet.

I am loving your posts!!

I have put a number of the games you post about on my list and this is not at the top of my list.

Such an amazing game! The atmosphere is excellent, loved every minute. My wife and I still reference it to this day (random mimic jokes).

Truly saddened that the studio responsible for it was closed, it clearly was one of the good ones.

0li0li,

It’s so good I stopped playing half way and installed mods to make it harder, imposed some self-restrictions and made it work in VR (Vorpx) so that I can be fully immersed in the experience, reading all the logs which I never do in games and try to milk every bit of this masterpiece. I have not finished it yet, but it’s still the best game ever made in my book.

And to think I took like 4 years to buy it and thought the trailers made it look boring as hell - I was new to immsims back then…

I’ll say it again: masterpiece.

fulg,

Now that’s something I didn’t think of: Prey in VR. 🤔

I’ll have to give that a go!

The more time passes, the more I feel Prey was one of the best games I’ve ever played. Can’t really feel bad for System Shock 3 not happening, Prey was the SS3 that I wanted.

I really hope Raph Colantonio’s new game delivers more innersive sim goodness upon this world, games with such reactivity are sorely missed.

Screen_Shatter, do games w Day 392 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing

Absolutely love this game for a lot of the reasons you listed and more. They really give you a lot of tools to toy around with and solve problems your own way. I spent my first playthrough carrying turrets everywhere with me and setting up killzones to lure enemies into, spent another using my powers to blast the shit out of everything, and then yet another using the goo gun on just about everything I could. That goo gun seems lackluster at first but really is one hell of a useful tool. Black hole grenade things are awesome too, use them wisely to get a ton of good resources.

A lot of people did not like the mooncrash DLC but I found it enjoyable too. Its definitely different, with the way you need to replay and upgrade characters between who each have a different set of skills. The hazards change each playthrough but the map layout itself doesn’t. When you learn your way around its satisfying to do the whole thing in one run trying to get every character to escape. Just takes a different kind of planning. Maybe being on a timer messed people up,

Exactly what everyone was expecting. IDK how Nintendo released this game with a straight face

I remember being so confused seeing the first trailer for this game in the S2 direct. The main mode just looked so fucking boring.

They charge 10€ for Welcome Tour and tried to spin it as a good value. They don’t care what the peasants think.

If it had been ‘free’ as part of NSO, I don’t the reception would be as bad.

1 billion means you only earned the first score extend right? I’m very impressed you survived to stage 5 yet didn’t score even close to the 2nd score extend. I think if you figure out how to do a little scoring in the first 2 stages the game will really come alive and you might also pocket the extend at 10billion sometime in stage 4 or so. You clearly have the skills to dodge/bomb/hyper when necessary.

I only played black label (steam version and also an arcade near me has a DFKBL pcb) but the second score extend is basically mandatory for me to get to the end of stage 4 or have a chance of going to stage 5. And before that, getting the first score extend would get me to the hidden extra life in stage 3 etc. Scoring is good for survival and I think it’s fun to play for score even at the level where we can’t currently 1cc. Gives a goal/benchmark for how I’m playing

audaxdreik,
@audaxdreik@pawb.social avatar

Thanks! Yeah, only the first score extend. I’ve been trying to figure out the game on my own since I kinda treat these things as puzzles, but I think I’ve really maxed out what I can understand and it’s time I watch a video or two of a pro playing. I have a general concept of how things work, but I often forget where the hidden bees are. I’ve memorized a bunch of patterns but I still don’t really approach things with a “plan”, mostly just survive and pick up bees when/where I remember them. I also probably hold onto my hypers too long to use on the midboss and endboss, I could be more efficient with them.

Had no idea I was so far off on the scoring, though, oops. I can get the hidden extra on Stage 3 before getting the extend pretty easily, but I’ve only ever been able to get into Stage 5 twice as it is. I thought my barrier was skill, but maybe it’s scoring (AND skill). I appreciate the advice!

Soon you will only be able to play on certified monitors with anticheat tampering built in. They 100% guarunteed will not be backdoored or phone home, pinky promise, it is certain.

Sunsofold, do games w Begun the kernel wars have

You could also just not play games that think they are allowed to access the kernel at all. Seems safer, more affordable, and basically without downside. They aren’t even that good of games.

Electricd,

They aren’t even that good of games.

Hard copium there

brucethemoose,

I think the point is there are a lot of excellent shooters to choose from.

Electricd,

Sure, but from what I’ve seen, this battlefield isn’t bad

Jax,

Yes because I truly love my shooters becoming more and more homogenized. Counter strike with hero abilities!?!? Oh my GOD let me spend 100’s of dollars on skins yes PLEASE Riot. Battlefield but it’s more like CoD? YES daddy DICE PLEASE spit in my mouth again, I love the taste.

Electricd,

You liking other type of games doesn’t mean all other games are shit. Most games are pretty basic. I mean csgo is generic as hell and Valorant improves the genre with abilities, good map design, proper character identities, and you say they make homogenized shit?

You not liking AAA games doesn’t mean they’re shit. There’s nothing wrong with making games that stick to a genre but do it perfectly

Jax,

There isn’t a single character ability in Valorant that does not have an analog from League of Legends. The biggest hype surrounding BF6 is the fact that they’re bringing back a mechanic from BC2, and also that it’s smaller and more like CoD (I know, I played the beta). Yes, it’s homogenized garbage. Also no, they absolutely don’t do it perfectly, there are better tactical shooters against both titles. It is quite literally a video game fast food equivalent.

Electricd,

Never played LoL but I’m pretty sure that’s false

Jax, (edited )

I’ve played both, granted I stopped playing valorant after 2 games because it’s fucking boring (for reference I stomped both games with +30 kills and a handful of deaths, dicking around with every gun) so I easily could be wrong about my assertion. You would be hard pressed to find a single character ability that doesn’t already exist in CS or LoL.

Edit: That isn’t even approaching the Overwatch comparisons. Like, you can argue that the games are fun — that’s entirely subjective. But seriously, Valorant isn’t homogenous? How many hero shooters exist? The fucking sniper is called the Operator.

Electricd,

They made a great game from this genre, and I don’t believe I’ve ever played a cs-like game with agents

Jax,

Ok, I’m not debating this further with someone who continues to cherrypick.

Enjoy your Big Mac.
