PSX was actually the codename and the abbreviation is PS. PS One was the smaller redesigned version Sony released in 2000. The PS One is very charming with its small form factor, probably my favorite console of all time. I own both to this day.

I only use “PS1” when naming a ROM folder so it sorts correctly.

The PSX was always called the PSX. It always shared a suspicious name similarity with the Microsoft MSX computer device family, which Sony manyfactured some of them.

My DIY days happened a very long time ago, when parts meant capacitors, diodes, resistors and transistors. And the VCS was next gen.

But I can still remember them announcing the PSX in video-game magazines. Feels like yesterday.
