I used the 360 as my main console back in the day because it was getting all the good games and multiplats usually ran better on it. I got a PS3 in late 2009 when the price dropped and it started getting worthwhile exclusives. When Microsoft tried to pull that always online crap with the One, they lost me forever. Since all of their games are on PC day one, there’s even less reason for me to get one.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

They do suck. Thankfully for me, there was nothing to tempt me because it’s all consumable crap you can get in the game.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

You’ve had ONE playthrough, yes. What about second playthrough?

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

It’s funny, I generally hate hard games, but I’m very fond of Ghosts 'n Goblins (both the arcade and NES versions) and Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts due to playing them so much in my childhood.

I didn’t have a guide, but got stuck for days at the part where you have to super bomb the glass tube. I just did it out of desperation and couldn’t believe it worked! A similar thing happened 5 years earlier in Simon’s Quest when you have to hold crouch while holding the blue crystal. Come to think of it, Super Metroid might just be the last game in which I got stuck like that before I had access to the internet to look these things up.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Now that’s what I call a bowel movement!

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

It’s the movement. Just like Super Mario Bros. before it, Mario moves much more smoothly than characters in other contemporary games at the time.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

I’m old and buy physical whenever possible so I can trade them in when I’m done. It will suck when console online stores have the monopoly - I might have to go PC Master Race when that happens (complete with eyepatch).

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

The arcade experience of having to put in money to play just moved to mobile.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll just stick with Ghost of Tsushima.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

We’ll see how the upcoming AC set in Japan turns out. That sure has been a popular open world setting lately!

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Regular old PS4 was fine for me last gen, and regular old ps5 will be fine for me this gen.

I loved Infinite Wealth! Don’t worry about FOMO if you didn’t get the DLC, it’s not that great.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

I started the series late, in 2020 after buying Yakuza 0 on a whim, and ended up playing through the entire series that was out at the time that year (including Judgment). Infinite Wealth hits you very hard in the feels if you’ve been following Kiryu since he was 20. I love Ichiban as well and think he’s a great protagonist to pass the torch to.

Also the Disney of Gaming.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Yup, the Wii is when they started the “withered technology” thing. One nice side effect is that their consoles are pretty easy to emulate because the hardware is so outdated.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

We’re rapidly approaching a time when 20 year old games will still look pretty good by today’s standards. Really shows how much graphics have slowed down - used to be that 5 year old games looked hopelessly outdated.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

That’s why I immediately put the GBA Mario Golf and Tennis games on my modded Switch’s NSO GBA app after the announcement - the versions they should have added instead of GBC!

As for Dr. Mario, I already have the SNES version on it.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

As a longtime Mario fan, I liked it - but it did feel a bit short. I would have been disappointed if I’d paid full price for it.

@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been holding off on jailbreaking my launch Switch until the next one is out, but I think the time has come.

EDIT: Aaand done. Biggest surprise so far is that there’s a homebrew Pizza Tower port for it! This game really belongs on consoles.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve had one for years, waiting for when Nintendo dropped support. I’m not gonna give them any more money as far as the Switch is concerned, so no reason not to go for it now. A project for this weekend, maybe.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

I love emulation. Been using it since NESticle in the late 90s. By far the best thing about it is save states. Being able to stop playing whenever you want and resume your progress was a revelation!

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Replaying Ghost of Tsushima. I beat it on PS4 back when it came out and started a New Game Plus save, but stopped playing after that so never played the expansion. I got the Director’s Cut on PS5 and have currently finished Act 1 and the expansion and am working on Act 2.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Loved the game. I just did the main story and side stories as it’s the plot and characters I play Like A Dragon games for; I wasn’t interested enough in the Sujimon or Dondoko Island stuff to get into it. And no way am I paying extra to do New Game Plus!

samus12345,

Tax Evasion. Yoshi’s the one who committed tax fraud.

So you prefer playing as another gender? (quanticfoundry.com) angielski

Well, as a guy, I’ve been asked multiple times why I systematically play games female characters in video games, to the point of skipping a game if I’m forced to pay a male one, with a few exceptions (I really liked Albus from Troubleshooters for example). Whenever there’s romance in a game, I’ll also take the F/F route....

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

I’m a big fan of the first 3 Suikodens and am looking forward to Eiyuden as well as the I & II remaster. II was revolutionary in being a JRPG sequel that was set in the same world with some of the same characters as the previous game rather than being an entirely new universe or 1000 years later or something. Thanks for the good times, Murayama-san.

Not to be confused with Xbox Series Y.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

It is, but it doesn’t play like a Super Mario Bros. game at all. They just got away with it because the series was still new.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Having a run button enhances the gameplay quite a bit as well.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

A looter shooter in need of being taken behind the shed and shot.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

It’s also on every platform, including the Switch, while TotK is just on the Switch.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Graphics 20 years from now will be incrementally better, but not mind-blowingly so. We’re rapidly approaching games that are 20 years old still looking pretty decent today.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

In this case, the downside is that it’s not a very good game.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Meaning they get money if those studios release a game that sells well on a rival console.
