gerryflap, do gaming w Let's discuss: The Sims
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

My first experience with the Sims was jumping behind a random computer at some kind of event that was running the Sims 1. Most of the family had just died because the previous person behind the PC had let the house burn down. Needless to say, I was a bit confused. I’ve played the Sims quite a bit after that, and I honestly like messing around with it.

I don’t think I’ve ever played a game without cheating a lot of money. I don’t like that the Sims that I made have to go off to work or school, so usually I just build a big fence around the property to keep them all there. From there on it used to devolve into chaos when I was younger. Building huge mazes to access basic necessities, launching fireworks indoors, etc. Nowadays im a bit more behaved though.

Imo the Sims 4 is the best nowadays. The older ones are showing their age. That being said, the Sims 4 is definitely in need of some competition. It’s inexcusably buggy sometimes, and I personally think there’s a lot more that can be done with a game like this. Hopefully the upcoming competitors can spark some fire into this genre.

I got randomly recommend “Kena: Bridge of Spirits” recently by Steam and decided to go for it. I just finished the story and it was definitely a good recommendation. Hard enough to make me work for it, which I always like. It is kinda short though, finished it in like 12 hours. It’s a bit janky at times with the camera and jumping, but overall a great experience.

gerryflap, do games w Microsoft announces the Proteus Controller, a gamepad for Xbox gamers with disabilities
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

Microsoft does a lot of bad things, but I got to give it to them here. Their push for accessibility in gaming is definitely a good thing. They’ve been pushing multiple modular controllers in order to allow people with disabilities to play games in a comfortable way. Having the support of a major player in the gaming market like Microsoft will definitely help with support for these products.

I’ve played Rocket League for more than 2000 hours since its release, but honestly I kinda felt like it was dying. Very little interesting new content, silly decisions like removing trading. I haven’t played seriously for more than a year now. It’s surprising to me to still see it so high up

gerryflap, do gaming w Let's discuss: Tetris
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

I kinda suck at Tetris. We had a “LAN” last year where we played some battle royale Tetris game, and there was one girl who absolutely demolished everyone. After that I feel like a kid playing (and failing) with one of those block shape matching toys whenever I play Tetris. It’s a cool game though. Nice simple gameplay, but high skill ceiling. I respect people who absolutely destroy me at a game due to pure skill

There’s still some stuff going on, but it’s quite dead yeah. In the broader scope of RTS games you still have stuff like Age of Empires 4 and Beyond all Reason, both of which I find a lot of fun. But neither are really much like C&C. What is like C&C is Tempest Rising, which is currently under development. I played the demo and it did feel very C&C like, which is good, but time will tell how polished it will be on release.

gerryflap, do games w Which games do you dislike, but the rest of the world loves them?
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

I don’t actively dislike it, but for me RDR2 is also the main one. Apart from competitive shooters etc which aren’t really my thing either. The thing is, I like the type of game that RDR2 is. But I just have nothing with the setting. I played it right after Cyberpunk, which I loved for multiple reasons. One major thing is that I controlled V, and thus could create my own story. In RDR 2 I was forced to play someone I have nothing in common with, who does exactly the things I wouldn’t do, and who lives in a shitty time period where basically every woman basically has the same rights as cattle. That may not be inaccurate, but it just didn’t vibe with me. I just got so frustrated with the main character talking shit to people who were right, or drinking a lot and getting into trouble in a very predictable way. Despite the beautiful and interesting world I just couldn’t feel anything but frustration.

I do get why people like it though, I don’t think it’s a bad game. Its just not for me.

Valheim is also great with friends by the way. We’re currently playing DRG, but we played Valheim quite a while back and it was a lot of fun together.

Singleplayer I’m playing Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty, which is imo a stellar experience so far. I’m also playing Cassette Beasts on the Steam Deck, which is also a great experience. Like Pokemon, but also different in many ways.

Multiplayer it’s still Deep Rock Galactic, and I’ve returned a bit to AoE 4.

gerryflap, do games w [Steam] Which lesser known games have you bought or are planning to buy in this sale?
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

Not sure how well known it is, but on a friend’s recommendation I bought Cassette Beasts. I just got a second hand Steam Deck and it’s a fun combination. It’s basically a Pokemon-like game, but with its own charm. Instead of pokeballs you record monsters with cassette tapes. It’s quite a goofy game and I’m enjoying it so far.

If you do get it for the Steam Deck, you should play it with compatibility mode set to Proton 8, because then it somehow uses 40% less battery or something.

gerryflap, do gaming w Male players: Why do you play female characters?
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

Because men in games are usually rough tough emotionless bricks. Designed to be “badass”. Playing Cyberpunk as a woman felt kinda freeing and different. Since then I’ve been doing it more and honestly it just feels fresh. It’s also easier to feel like I’m playing someone else. Women also usually have more interesting customization options imo.

gerryflap, do games w What's up with Epic Games?
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

The issue is that I miss features when using Epic. Additionally, games from Epic are not visible in my steam library which leads to me forgetting that they even exist. And also nobody uses it, so there’s no community feeling like I have with all my Steam friends.

I don’t mind it for free games though. If they give me a game for free, they deserve me using their launcher for that game haha.

gerryflap, do games w What's up with Epic Games?
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

Personally my main gripe is their aggressive strategies to force people into their garbage-tier launcher. Compared to Steam it’s just miles behind, and it’s yet another app to run on your PC. All my friends are also on Steam, and Steam had Linux support. However, if all you want to do is launch singleplayer games, you don’t mind the Epic launcher, and you get a good deal, then do whatever you want to.
