I bought Cities Skylines 2 under the premise that I’d refund it if it ran like shit. On my PC it runs about the same as the first game. Which isn’t great, around 30-60 fps, but also not unplayable. I haven’t played a lot yet, but so far I’m enjoying it. I did get into a fight with the UI thingy that lets you designate an area for landfills/farmland/etc. It feels very counterintuitive when you build the respective building and then try to mark the area. But when you finish the building and then edit the area again it suddenly works a lot better. Maybe my brain is just weird

I’m kinda playing too many games in parallel at the moment. I bought Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty and did prepare to start, but I have yet to start the first mission. I played a lot of Barony, which has been great fun. And in between I also played some Whisker Squadron: Survivor, which is a funny little game imo. Cities Skylines 2 is also close to release, so it’s gonna get even busier then

gerryflap, do gaming w What type of game you want to see that doesn't fully exist yet?

Something like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed? It’s been quite a while, but I remember having fun with it. It felt like a Mario Kart kinda game

gerryflap, do games w CD Projekt apologise for Cyberpunk 2077 Ukrainian script's potentially "offensive" references to Russians
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

It can make political points, but the war in Ukraine does not exist in that timeline. So it makes no sense to directly refer to it. And forcing it into only the Ukrainian translation without the developer being aware of it is just unprofessional.

I don’t think it has a place in a work of fiction like Cyberpunk 2077. Maybe a small reference somewhere. The Russian government is a bunch of cunts, but not every piece of media needs to reference that constantly. I could also imagine that it would be could annoying if you’re playing Cyberpunk to distract yourself from the war as an Ukrainian and then you’re still constantly reminded of it

gerryflap, do games w SAG-AFTRA members overwhelmingly vote in favour of authorising video game strike
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

Because they can’t just strike whenever they’re slightly upset. Strikes are the weapon you use when the negotiations go nowhere and all other options are off the table. And a strike won’t work with people who aren’t fully committed to lay down the work to fight for a cause. So you’d vote against a strike when you don’t think that the cause is so important that it warrants a strike.

I still want to look into some reviews, but I’ll probably end up buying Phantom Liberty. The 2.0 update has been a lot of fun for me. The rebalancing of weapons, perks, and cyberware has made my build a lot less boring. It was too OP ik the end game, being able to basically kill all enemies without them seeing me. But now my sniper cannot shoot through walls anymore and I constantly run out of quickhack RAM which forces me to use health for quickhacks instead using the overdrive ability.

The police chases are also good fun. It makes the city feel a lot more dynamic. The police will basically engage anything that hurts them. So you can get them to resolve their own NCPD sidequest thingies by leading them into a crime scene with other enemies. They’ll also shoot at civilians or each other. This lead to a peak America moment where a civilian car got launched in a car crash, and because it hurt one officer all the police in the area started shooting this poor civilian car that was flying through the air. It’s been a lot of fun to just drive around and mess with the police system.

After more than a hundred hours (and probably also 50+ crashes) me and my friends managed to finish our co-op Satisfactory session and completed the (for now) last stage of the space elevator. At the end of the game everything was slowly falling apart though. No means of transport was reliable anymore due to the lag. Trains were acting weirdly, hypertubes cannons were very dangerous, standing on drones was a quick trip to the void, and even normal hypertubes had random glitches where you’d randomly fall out of them and get completely desynced. But the factories were impressive, and it was a cool experience.

Now we’re kinda filling the void with some older games. Playing some Splitgate again, which was quite fun despite the low player counts. And also playing some Mario Kart etc via Dolphin. Yesterday we also played Barony for the first time. I didn’t have a full idea what was going on, but one friend had some experience already. We managed to get like 6 floors deep on our second run before saving the game and calling it a night, which felt quite good.

In single player I’m picking up Cyberpunk 2077 again in preparation for Phantom Liberty. My build seems completely messed up tho, and the SPT Grad sniper that I relied on seems to be nerfed and can no longer shoot through walls it seems. Nevertheless the changes seem like an overall improvement to the game, I had a lot of fun with the police already.

I loved that game, despite its flaws. I played it about a year ago, but it was still quite buggy. The world really sucked me in though, I don’t think a game managed to ever get me that emotionally involved for so long. I think it had the right balance of V being both controlled by me, but also a fictional character with their own life. I also ended up playing it twice with different builds, which was a lot of fun

gerryflap, do gaming w Cities Skylines 2 has realistic economy, layoffs and even homelessness
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

Just because the DLC exists doesn’t mean you need it. I bought the original Cities Skylines, haven’t bought any DLC, but still had a great time. It looks like this time around they’ll also include more features from DLC into the base game. Evaluate the game based on what it is. Is it worth the money? Then buy it. Is it not worth the money, then don’t.

Looks interesting. It basically looks like a new C&C, which is a good thing. Apparently they have opened up playtesting according to my Steam, so let’s see how things are going

Damn that’s a very good deal. From the price I suspected that it was just another grey market key seller, but from all that I can find it’s actually legit. Thanks for sharing!

gerryflap, do games w Madden should not be 70$
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

They know that people are going to pay for it. For exactly the same reason I haven’t bought a Formula 1 game in a few years. Every year it’s just not quite worth the 60-70 euro’s for me. I’m not even that mad about the 70 euro price tag if I get something nice for it in return, everything has gotten more expensive and games have been 60 euro since forever, but last year’s game with some small changes is not going to cut it for that price.

gerryflap, do gaming w GTA 6 might be released before the end of the next fiscal year
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

I mean, personally I don’t care about the story or anything. If I can just mess around in a big fancy sandbox like all the other GTA games then it’d good for me. But GTA 6 has big expectations to contend with, so they’re gonna aim high. There’s the chance that they mess that up, either with scummy monetization or DRM, or by releasing a trainwreck of a game. Or they fck it up by releasing a soulless game like Saints Row did

gerryflap, do gaming w GTA 6 might be released before the end of the next fiscal year
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

GTA 6 is really set up for failure. There’s so many expectations from gamers after all these years with no new installment. Nevertheless, I hope to be wrong about this. GTA games are always a fun sandbox to me, and hopefully GTA 6 manages to get that part right once again.
