echo64,

I would take this with a grain of salt just because Matsuno doesn’t work at square enix, you would hope he would be involved in a remaster or at least know it was happening, but that’s not always how these things play out

'Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition' Arrives on Netflix December 14 for Mobile (about.netflix.com) angielski

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is coming to Netflix on December 14 for Netflix members on the App Store, Google Play, and in the Netflix mobile app.

echo64,

Actual title

Netflix pays Take Two Interactive to ensure that you can not just buy this release on mobile and have to subscribe to Netflix instead.

echo64,

they would have done these layoffs regardless for what it’s worth. Apples privacy stance for advertising companies (what unity wanted to be) and the lack of easy access to additional investment this past year meant that it’s not been a sustainable business for a while

echo64,

There is this tiny company called Nihon Falcom. They make this game series called Trails that I adore. they have like three programmers work on each entry.

In the time since Star Citizen was announced they have released:

  • The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails 2012
  • Ys: Memories of Celceta 2012
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 2013
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II 2014
  • Tokyo Xanadu 2015
  • Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana 2016
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV
  • Ys IX: Monstrum Nox 2019
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II
  • Ys X: Nordics

as well as a bunch of ports of older games to modern platforms and localizing them to the west. All of these are worth playing and some of these were GOTY material for me.

Its good to quantify how much time has passed, and how much you can get done with a smaller budget and focused scope.

echo64,

add this to the list of games that flopped before I even knew they existed, You really do have to put down real money to market games if you want people to purchase them

echo64,

that universe requires people to pay money for content rather than having advertiser funded content that people will just block anyway. which in 2023 isn’t going to happen

echo64, (edited )

I think that niche might be bigger and more normal than you think it is.

Why a handheld if 99% of people don’t want to use it outside of the house and just want a home-portsble

Edit to just point out how disappointed I am in this community lately. It’s become all the things that made me dislike reddit. The circlejerk here is just as strong, and all the discussions we had initially are gone in favor of updooting my opinion and downdooting everyone else.

echo64,

It’s completely useless, unless you want to play your ps5 in the same kind of way you play a nintendo switch. In which case it works super well.

it turns out a lot of people want that. People could stick a laptop on their lap and get out a controller and play nintendo switch on that too, but that’s a pain. people just want a thing they can pick up. and they are happy to have it. even if you are angry about it.

echo64,

we all think that it costs too much don’t worry, but also you should understand the value proposition it has. people are paying “too much” because it serves a real function.

no, we don’t want to hogtie a controller to a phone, we want the nice ergonomics of a playstation controller all built together. it’s worth understanding that value.

echo64,

This platform has shrunk, not grown. The good people seem to have left, maybe as a result of the reddit people coming in?

Here’s the thing, this platform is small. It is a small forum, and it’s changed in tone from being a place of discussion, to a place of jerking

echo64,

Adding “vita compatibility” would require including a psvita inside it. As well as extra inputs on the back. All for games people didn’t actually ever want. You can however play (some) ps1 and psp games on the thing via the ps5

echo64,

it’s not a “nothing special” device, it literally has a psp encoded into the soc package…

also

Vita TV didn’t have it and work fine without it too.

this is just flat out incorrect, a huge amount of games just don’t work on the vita tv because of the lack of touch interactions

echo64,

Yes, or rather its a problem for publishers trying to get their product noticed. Marketing in the past decade has fast become the most expensive part of making things, just getting people to know your thing exists, yeah its hard.

It’s not a problem for people, people don’t care. Companies do.

On the other side of things, it’s why we have so many sequels and franchises now, it’s much easier to market franchises. No one can make a Call of Duty killer, primarily because even if you make a game people would love, it’s hard to get people to even know.

echo64,

People don’t buy games on the competitors, but yes may developers did flock to epic, which made everyone hate epic.

echo64,

Valve hasn’t done anything shady, but monopolies are still bad and unhealthy. Both things are true. And there are no other options for less of a cut if you want to actually make sales, pc gamers won’t purchase from other platforms.

echo64,

Yes, it’s unhealthy for the undustry even if you enjoy it today. Gabe newel is old. He’s going to retire soon and likely sell the company. You won’t like what happens after that, and the fact that so much of the industry is provided via their product means they have a lot of agency to tighten the screws.

“OH but then we’ll just use something else”. That’s not how the monopoly works, you might, most won’t. Most of what you want won’t be on the something else.

echo64,

It was both.

echo64,

Everything he’s ever made was a collaboration between him and other creative people, he’s just being big headed about himself

echo64,

Bunch of moron execs go on an industry buying spree, is shocked when the infinite money dries up, kills the jobs they bought. Embracer are truely awful.

echo64,

A remaster implies that it’s taking what exists and bringing it to a new thing.

If there’s a 4k scan of a movie that was made for blurays and then a few years later that 4k scan gets used to release an uhd version, we don’t complain.

If developers want to re-release their games on new platforms, I say sure? No skin off my back, helps them work on engine and tooling for the new platforms, gives games another wind. Literally does not matter to me.

I really struggle to see why anyone would be against these ports, honestly.

echo64,

People are against them. Demonstrably.

Also worth reading everything I wrote not just the bits you want to read

If developers want to re-release their games on new platforms, I say sure? No skin off my back, helps them work on engine and tooling for the new platforms, gives games another wind. Literally does not matter to me.

echo64,

Like, sure, if the game isn’t otherwise playable on the platform then by all means, but otherwise why waste all that time?

If developers want to re-release their games on new platforms, I say sure? No skin off my back, helps them work on engine and tooling for the new platforms, gives games another wind. Literally does not matter to me.

echo64,

you can’t do a ‘patch’ for a new platform, you have to release a new SKU. that’s just the mechanics of it. that’s what 99% of these things that people are mad about are. it also gives people an excuse to print mode physical medias which makes people who like physical media happy.

echo64,

No, they have unlocked profiles. This is absolutely not the same thing as releasing a game made for previous gen for current gen it does not give you access to most of the graphical and audio capabilities of the modern platform, nor does it give you access to features like duelsense triggers and rumble.

It mearly takes the speed limit off the ps4 abstractation layer.

I want to be super clear about how these are very very different things. And also about how it’s petty to go and press the downvote button on someone’s posts when you’re having a conversation with them. Numbers don’t mean anything here, it’s just petty and makes conversation weird.

echo64,

Except where it clearly can. For example, Witcher 3’s next gen update adds features like ray tracing.

this is a new SKU release for next gen systems, it’s not a patch. it’s a new version of the game.

echo64,

…playstation.com/…/EP9000-CUSA10249_00-THELASTOFU… this game has a next-gen patch for ps5 to get higher framerates: ref blog.playstation.com/…/the-last-of-us-part-ii-per…

note how it says [ps4]

…playstation.com/…/EP4497-PPSA10408_00-0000000000… this game has a next-gen SKU for ps5, to access ps5 feature sets, that they misnamed as a “patch”. note how it says [ps4] [ps5]

echo64,

I wonder if this indicates that the investment money is starting to funnel back into the industry after the big drought

echo64,

Game delays are okay, but let’s maybe have a conversation about why valve is incapable of producing the kind of content it used to. Half-life 3 isn’t “delayed”, it’s not happening because of internal reasons.

echo64,

The announcements of fan works are always to drum up more fans to contribute to the work. And honestly 99/100 it doesn’t result in legal threats, it makes sense to do. Fan works don’t get made in secret, in secret they get to version 0.01 and sit on one person’s hard drive for a decade

echo64,

saving my second playthrough for ps5 is finally working out! unless it’s a full priced release with no upgrade, which is what i’m actually expecting

echo64,

I know people want to implicitly shit on this thing because they don’t personally want one, and I guess they don’t want other people to enjoy them, but come on, this is silly. You know none of that. You just wish it was that.

Honestly, this place was great for a while, but it’s very rapidly devolving into the vapid reddit style comments you see all over that place.

echo64,

The use case is that you live with other people and other people want to use the TV that the ps5 is connected to, and you want to play ps5, and you aren’t a jerk who hogs the TV all the time.

It’s okay, demonstrably people want this, even if you’re mad about it.

echo64,

Sure, but the narrative in this thread is assuming that it muuust have been low units for low sales based on nothing. That is what I was critizing. The people here and the quality of the comments.

echo64,

🙄 let people do what they want don’t be a dick about it

echo64,

yes, that is what i want. I’ve wanted for years. no using my phone or a tablet isn’t a good experience to answer the next comment.

echo64,

sure, it was better here about it until recently, the quality of the community posts here has dropped dramatically in the past month

echo64,

if you like it great good for you, I don’t though. I don’t want to play games on a frakentablet with accessories, not local games, not streamed games. I just want a thing that is put together by itself, is totally solid and doesn’t need me to attach/detach things from it as it changes its use

if i had an android tablet that played switch games if i just have this controller attachment that lets me use some third party controls I wouldn’t enjoy it, I would enjoy a nintendo switch by itself.

echo64,

Mario rpg is really a 20ish hour game for most people. Maybe a little less. I’m not even sure what you would spend your time doing for 3x the time. Even completionist entries on hltb are only 25 hours

It’s a shorter rpg for sure, doesn’t make it bad, my favourite rpgs are shorter.

echo64,

When I use my switch, 99.9% of the time, I’m at home. So, none of this actually matters to me.

I got one, and it’s pretty great. It does the job super well. Let’s me play games whilst the TV is in use, which I think is 99% of the reason I use my switch portable too.

echo64,

imgur.com/a/EIT9pow it’s as close to zero lag as you can reasonably expect

echo64,

You set up two tvs in your living room?

echo64,

You must be a joy to live with

echo64,

Here’s the same company boasting about record profits and revenue six months ago uk.marketscreener.com/…/Digital-Bros-in-9-months-…

echo64,

Ifrs 16 makes things complicated, I wouldn’t pay attention to that part unless you are interested in the specifics of the companies financials. The point is that revenue and profit were up

echo64,

High interest rates make investing in risky projects like game development uninteresting. Why take risk if interest rates bring in high returns by themselves.

A lot of the games industry is backed by a constant flow of investment. Which has totally dried up. This company got 80 million in investment last year, this year can’t find more to keep paying the bills. Same is true for most of the announcements.

Then there is large companies like Microsoft, those layoffs are purely about paying shareholders extea money.

echo64,

Karl Jobst hangs out with nazis tho imgur.com/a/X7qLRXa how much respect do you get from that

echo64,

none of that is debunked, he’s just trying to worm his way out of it. the correct thing to do when you find out someone is a nazi is to cut them out. he doesn’t, then he tries to say i’m just trying to help him be a not nazi by promoting and featuring him in my videos.

you’re a fool to believe that for a moment, especially when it comes from him.

i want to be incredibly clear here, nothing is debunked. he said what he wants to say, you choose to believe him at face value.
