echo64, do games w Unity rushes to clarify price increase plan, as game developers fume

This isn’t it. The svb run was a symptom, not a cause. You’ll note this is not something limited to the tech world.

Markets, in general, are risk adverse because of the whole global economic shutdown thing. Executives are driving shareholder growth, not through investment like a giant ponzi scheme, or through competition, but through whatever hairbrained scheme they can come up with that will raise stock prices in the short term.

echo64, do games w Resident Evil 4 remake, Resident Evil Village, Death Stranding and Assassin’s Creed Mirage coming to iPhone 15 Pro

Alien isolation, xcom 2, genshin impact, divinity original sin 2, then there’s games like apex and cod mobile that are effectively console quality but built for mobile first. There’s a huge amount of mostly Japanese games in that vein, too. Plus, there’s pretty much everything that has hit nintendo Switch. Switch is six year old mobile hardware and runs games like doom eternal. And that’s if you count the switch being a six year old hardware given its based on a much older soc.

I know you’ll want to find reasons here that none of this counts because they aren’t real games or something like that, but we would disagree there. People just typically don’t want to play games designed for a big screen controller experience on a small touchscreen so it doesn’t happen often.

It’s easy to not notice the march of time, but it’s good to remember that these are all games built for ps4, which is decade old hardware at this point. So this is about expected for the latest mobile hardware.

echo64, do games w Unity adding a fee for devs for each time a game is installed, after certain thresholds

… not really, and for what a few years? Indie devs don’t have a lot of money, and there is a huge discrepancy between unity and other engines. They work in fundamentally different ways.

echo64, do games w [Rumor] Embracer reportedly considering selling Borderlands developer Gearbox

this is embarrassing…

echo64, do games w [Rumor] Embracer reportedly considering selling Borderlands developer Gearbox

This is gonna be true of every studio embracer owns. They just don’t have any cash to keep the business running. Every studio is gonna get shut down or, if possible, sold.

echo64, do games w Starfield, is it getting review bombed?

tbf this is pretty par for the course with Bethesda, the writing just isn’t good. The people that wrote Morrowind and most of Oblivion left half way through Oblivion, from what I remember Todd Howard did not get along with the writers at all.

Everything ever since has been just, well it’s been there. Todd is more interested in spectacle and exploration than writing. And unfortunately that’s been incredibly successful for him

echo64, do games w Do you find the description Live Service Game off-putting?

Op, I think you’re a little confused. I can’t think of a live service game that isn’t a multiplayer game in some form. the required online is because that’s literally what the game is.

Be mad about the scummy lootbox practices that prop it up, don’t be mad that other people like online games.

echo64, do games w New Nintendo patent suggests Switch 2 may solve joycon drift

Also if they wanted to fix it for their next console, then they could have fixed it for this console. Hall effect isn’t some new technology, the dreamcast controller had it.

echo64, do games w Triple Jump: A platformer multi-cartridge for the NES - Announcement Trailer

Yeah, they should give away the physical nes carts for free! Also, making games?! And then selling the games?! The absolute cheek, I’ve never seen anything so outragious.

echo64, do nintendo w Ys X: Nordics details Time Attack and Boss Rush modes, boss characters, and Recapture Battle Skills

I love playing ys games so much, the year+ wait after release asia release - for NISA to get their crap together is painful.

echo64, do nintendo w Nintendo Is "Evolving" Into An Entertainment Company, According To Doug Bowser

yeah, but not like the eshop. the eshop is a dumpster fire of a store. it’s what steam used to be before valve tried to build automatic curation systems. the eshop is 100x worse than every other game store available today. I don’t even look at it because I know that I can’t find anything interesting between all the crap

I can 100% look at other stores, i just look through the new releases on my playstation every few months and generally find something i want

echo64, do games w SAG-AFTRA votes unanimously to expand its strike to include the games industry

It’s inevitable if you give up and let companies do whatever they want yes. It’s not if you get them to sign papers and lobby for regulation to protect workers.

I don’t understand this defeatist mentality at all sorry.

echo64, do games w Tim Sweeney says Epic Games Store is open to devs using generative AI

so a rule against it would be effectively pointless anyway

if it’s a rule then it’s something you can enforce. you might not be able to stop it entirely, but you can kick something off if it’s discovered

echo64, do games w Saints Row Reboot is Awesome

I haven’t played it, I know I don’t like these kinds of games, so I just say, “Oh okay, not for me then.” Same with the other saints row games. Thought I’d find some interesting discourse on what people enjoy but found a rant about karaoke. Was weird.
