Not even a good dev reputation is enough anymore. I’ve avoided a lot of wasted money by just letting people QA the game for a few months. How good the game is and how much I want it get factored in and then I decide when I want to buy it and at what sale price.
If it’s a franchise I love and the game gets good reviews, only then will I buy it completely new for 70 USD. Anything less and I either wait for patches to make the game what it should have been or just wait for a Steam 9.99 sale on the GOTY edition.
Unfortunately a trend I’ve noticed is a game will come out busted, get dropped to like 40 bucks a month in cause it’s shit, then when it’s finally patched a year later to launch day expectations they bump the price back up to its original value.
The system is so fucked and it works cause people will willingly pay to be QA testers.
This your first day in the real world? Devs have been releasing games in this state since like 2013 (not including the gaming collapse of the 80’s) regularly.
If you still trust developers to claim a game is ready and then release it as such, then you’re gullible and will fall for anything.
You want the system fixed?
DONT PREORDER
Wait for actual reviews, not the “I played the tutorial and then made this video so I could beat the other YouTubers, 7/10.” Two weeks or so gives the passionate reviewers to play the whole game and give their opinion.
(This one is where you morons keep fucking up) If the game isn’t up to your standards… DONT FUCKING BUY IT! Buying shitty products tells the devs and publishers that you’re willing to spend money on a heap of garbage! You know what they’ll do next time? That’s right! More garbage!
Stop trying to blame the system because you’re a shitty consumer who will hand over their money for a promise and no second thought.
Stop. Buying. The. Crap. Products.
If this was housing or medical I’d be calling for regulation, this is video games. A luxury good. Just don’t pay money for garbage and they’ll be forced to make better products to get our money.
Back in 2007 Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi from Star Trek TNG) did the most phoned-in performance for Mass Effect, meanwhile other VA’s were running circles around her.
I’ve never had a game stop working, ports to PC occasionally break but I’ve never had one just quit being compatible. Hell I can boot up early 90’s games on my windows 10 machine right now right alongside early 2000’s, 2010’s, etc.
To do the same on console you’d have to have like five or six different console gens and their discs just laying around all over the place.
I wonder how the new cyberware limits and cyberpsychosis system will affect my V if I update. I’m pretty much fully kitted out at max level and street cred and carrying almost all legendary gear where applicable.
Will I just spawn in and immediately get like… over encumbered with cyberware? Will I have to restart the game or respec V with less stuff?
I’m gonna be mad if I have to give up my Kerenzikov/camouflage/gorilla fists/hacking multi-class. There’s nothing quite like invisibly slo mo punching out an entire crippled with contagion gang while their leader crow bar’s them to death because I gave him psychosis.
I’d probably trade in the melee if I had to, but I really like having the kerenzikov since you cant equip a hacking module and a sandevistan at the same time.
Not sure if it’s evidence of organized review bombing. but yeah, it seems like most people are just being as extreme as possible because they know it’s a scale of averages.
You should try Prey if you enjoyed Deathloop, it’s DLC “Moon crash” was made a few years prior to Deathloop and incorporates similar mechanics except the map is randomized on each playthrough so it’s always a little different.
Same company, but it feels like Moon crash was a more interesting version of what DL did. Plus Prey occasionally just goes on like 90% off sales (one time I snagged it and the DLC free on Epic Games.)
I disagree, every potential option for betrayal or aligning with one cause versus another in any given scenario was just as good as any other Bethesda game.
The narrative was tighter and not as open world, but I liked the art design a lot and gameplay well enough.
Not soon enough 😭 Probably won’t be what we want from it anyways, they’ll take all the worst parts of Andromeda and leave the good on the cutting room floor, somehow.
Yeah, the first thing I did when getting to the core was to generate an ancestral galaxy so that there would be more dead worlds. Didn’t like having every place overrun with life.
For those who have pre-ordered it is already here, the rest have to wait a little longer. Starfield is finally here! Have you bought it, why or why not? If you’ve already played it, what do you think of it? We are very curious!...
Good strawman, notice how I never specified planetary landings? Cause I already knew that it was going to be a loading screen.
I’m talking about the fractured nature of the surface and the inability to fly from place to place in space. Or transition from locations in atmosphere. Everything is its own tiny location and fast traveling the rule of thumb. It seems like they kept as little information on this specific aspect as possible until the preorders were in. Probably so that the nature of the game wouldn’t drive away people looking for something with more of an interconnected holistic model of travel. They knew the truth would severely reduce their consumer base so they pretended it was “Star Citizen (with severe limitations)” instead of “Mass Effect: Andromeda (but you can customize and fly the tempest yourself)”
Someone in here said it best, “I have no idea what the purpose of including space ships and space travel even was.” If that’s a legitimate question in your space game, you failed.
It’s not even that, I never talked about the space to planet transition because I expected that to be a loading screen.
I’m talking about how the game itself is structured, I thought the space travel and jumping from system to system was going to be more like elite, but it’s just small instances with loading screens. Was that my fault for assuming that? I mean, they focused so hard on ship customization I assumed space travel was a big part of the game. At least the space gameplay, if not the planetary gameplay.
Bethesda was super closed off about how exactly the gameplay loop was structured because they knew the truth was going to reduce sales. So they let the reality of it just go unsaid while they kept you focused on the pretty screenshots.
“Why do we need writers on staff all the time? They can just write the story and then we can fire them! What’s the worst that could happen? We have to do millions of dollars worth of rework because we didn’t pay someone five figures to stick around 24/7 and modify the story to fit the efforts we’ve already put in? Pshh…”
Probably just less experienced writers that can be paid less and pushed around more. Thus leading to the continual quality reduction of all modern media.
Broken launches aren’t something to be tired of, imagine if everytime you bought a car it has to be recalled. Every Sandwich you ate gave you food poisoning. All of the tools you buy snap the first time they undergo a few foot pounds of torque.
This market runs on money, and the only way to combine them to put out functional games is to refuse to pay for sub par products. Anything less and they’ll go “oh shit, we’re still making money. I guess we don’t need to provide anything beyond a tech demo to rake in 70 bucks + cosmetics, etc.”
They absolutely lied about their systems. Fully functional crowds and AI? Bullshit. A cop system that actually works? Bullshit. They pop out of a hole in the ground and insta-gank you. If they can’t even replicate decade old police technology that games like GTA IV managed to get right, then they should have just given you the “DONT KILL CIVILIANS” with a game over screen instead of some half-baked system of having police that spawn behind and instantly kill you. A total waste of a mechanic that they couldn’t even fully implement or commit to.
While the game was mostly broken on last gen consoles, I have a fairly powerful desktop and still got game breaking bugs on occasion with only mildly infuriating ones fairly frequently. To say the game was GOTY on day one is absolutely mind-boggling. Your standards for games are clearly through the floor on this one if you really consider it GOTY on release lol I wouldn’t even consider it that good NOW and I’ve just recently 100%'ed the damn game.
I’ll agree that it got more hate than it deserves, but let’s not swing the pendulum the other way and pretend this is some nugget of gold that people just didn’t see. It was broken and got treated as such.
I see this argument a lot when people criticize this game and it seems like you are all suffering from some Mandela fever dream. Or maybe you just didn’t watch any of the trailers and dev commentary?
CDPR literally marketed the game as and constantly raved about how the city was the most immersive sandbox possible. With fully scripted AI living full lives and reacting realistically to you. A full police system that would enforce harsh punishments. They wanted players to believe it was going to be the same level of interactivity with the world as games like GTA or Watch Dogs.
Idk what made you think they were “never going to deliver” that when it was constantly being talked about by the PEOPLE WHO MADE THE GAME.
“Well, CDPR has never made a game like that and the Witcher series wasn’t like that so it doesn’t matter that they spent years telling everyone that it was going to be that way! It’s you’re fault for not knowing!”

Seems kind of like the game is just suffering from reactionaries, but I definitely don’t put that much stock in critic reviews these days either.
